Level 12 - Midnight Incident

Level 12 - Midnight Incident

After abandoning his first quest, Yin Xian decided that he’s had enough today and logged off.

“What an ordeal I had to go through today…” He puts the headphones to the side. Then, he noticed somebody was sleeping beside him.

“What are you doing…” he sighed.

It was obviously his little sister, Xiao Mo. And she seemed to be playing the game still.

Not wanting to bother her gaming, he carefully got off the bed and went downstairs.

“You’re finally done? It’s almost midnight, you know.”

Downstairs, his mother was washing the dishes.

“Sorry, did I miss dinner? You could have told me,” he said.

“It’s all good. The two of you looked so comfortable, I would feel bad interfering. It’s been a while since she got a chance to play games with you, too.”

“Even though we were only together for a few minutes before she ran off…” He chuckled.

“I am going to go for a walk; I’ll be back soon.”

“It’s late, so be careful.”

“I know.”

Although he had no destination in mind, he still wanted to take a stroll.

“To think a game could get me so worked up; it has been a long time since I had experienced such feelings.” A smile surfaced on his face. “Those NPCs, although they are unreasonable and annoying at first, it’s kind of funny now that I think about it. If it were not for them, then I would definitely get tired of such a game quickly, VR or not.”

“And because I did not expect the game to have such NPCs, the results was myself getting pushed around by a bunch of NPCs--- No, I should stop looking them as programmed humans, but somewhat real humans with their own choices.”

“Legacy Online… Maybe I should take it a bit more seriously than it being just a ‘game’.”

Underneath the moonlight, Yin Xian continued to wander aimlessly in the silent streets, his mind filled with what had happened today.

For the next ten minutes, everything was peaceful. The wind was tender, and the bright moon was a beautiful view.

“Ah… What a calming atmosphere---”

“You. Hand over all of your belongings.”

These intimidating words along with clicking sounds entered Yin Xian’s ears.

Turning around, there were three masked figures standing there with firearms in their grasp--- all pointed all him.

“Really?” His voice was nonchalant.

“Does it look like we’re fucking joking? Everything that has value, hand 'em over or we’ll shoot.”

“Haaa…” Yin Xian sighed. “Out of the billions of people in this world that you could’ve chosen to take advantage of, you chose me? Do I look that much of a pushover?”

“What the fuck is this idiot talking about?”

“First and foremost, stop pointing that vulgar-looking thing at me.”

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Yin Xian’s eyes narrowed at the midnight robbers.

Suddenly---

*Thud* *Thud* *Thud*

“Huh?”

Baffled, the three robbers looked on the ground to where their firearms fell.

“T-T-That’s…”

Cold sweat soaked the back of these three robbers within seconds. Laying right next to their pistols was three arms of different length--- each with a clean end as if they got sliced off with a sharp sword.

“AAAAHHHHHHHH!!! MY ARM!!!”

Blood sprayed into the air like a broken water fountain.

“These sounds coming out of your mouths are unpleasant to the ears, so stay shut for me.”

“AAA---”

The screaming suddenly stopped, but the three robbers were still alive. As a matter of fact, other than the blood spraying from their cut-off arm, they were perfectly fine. Why they stopped screaming, even they themselves did not know. When they tried to scream again, they were shocked to find out that let alone screaming, they could not even open their mouths!

It was as if their lips were glued together, none of them could open them even an inch!

“Now that it’s nice and quiet, just like before the three of you had shown up, let’s enjoy the moonlight together, okay?”

A gentle smiled surface on Yin Xian’s calm face, but to the three robbers, that smile of his was akin to a devil’s smile--- maybe even scarier.

“While I do not have something valuable on my body, I can still give you a one-way ticket to the next life. That enough should suffice, right?”

The three of them uncontrollably pissed themselves, their eyes filled with deep horror as Yin Xian got closer and closer.

Who would have known that such a weak and ordinary-looking young man turned out to be such a monster? Well, these three robbers obviously did not.

-Inside Yin Xian’s room-

“Ahhh--- what a great raid that was! Not only did I obtain another piece of Perfect-Grade equipment but I also got to level up!”

Xiao Mo stretched out her body on the tender bed.

“Hm?”

She noticed that Yin Xian who she had slept next to on purpose had disappeared.

“He’s finished already? Most people I know played for the entire night on their first day of playing the game.”

“I wonder how much has he progressed…”

She went downstairs.

“Mom, where’s Big Bro?”

“He left the house to go on a walk an hour ago.”

“Ehhh…”

Just as she made a regretting sound, the main door opened.

“I’m home.”

“Again with the perfect timing…” The mother chuckled to herself.

“Big Bro! How was the game? Did you like it?”

“While it was infuriating at times, it was still fun in its own ways,” he said with a bitter smile.

“Right?! I know that feeling too well! Come, let’s talk all night about---”

“Xiao Mo, it’s already midnight, and you have school tomorrow, so go to sleep. You can talk to your brother all you want tomorrow after school.”

“....”

She immediately puts on a sulking expression upon hearing that.

“Making that face will not help you as you have already skipped today’s lessons.”

The eyebrows of Yin Xian raised. “Oh? You skipped school today?”

“I… I had a good reason…” she murmured.

“Which is…?” He pressed on.

“It doesn’t matter anymore! I’m going to bed!”

She ran upstairs, leaving the two behind.

“She ran away.” He chuckled.

“So? How was your walk?” His mother suddenly asked.

Smiling, he said, “It was refreshing. Though I did get into a little incident with a few robbers.” He did not hide that fact.

With widened eyes, his mother hurriedly searched his body to make sure there were no injuries. “Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”

“I am fine. You know that something like that cannot harm me.”

“.... It’s a mother’s job to worry about her child no matter how strong they are.”

“I see… Thank you, mother.”

“Say, Yin Xian… How long do you think this is going to last?”

“Does it bother you?” he asked.

“Isn't it a bit late to ask something like that? And no, I’m grateful, and I hope it can last forever… But that is precisely why I am asking you…”

“Don’t worry, it’ll last as long as it needs to--- this obligation of mine.”

“Thank you…”

“No, thank you, mother.”

And just like Xiao Mo, Yin Xian went upstairs to prepare for bed.
