Alon Akunawa, a young man with olive tanned skin, messy dark brown hair and light brown eyes, woke up in a yawn finding himself inside the Cockpit of his Mobile Worker, which was originally a Tank used for Anti-Mech combat but over the years would be repurposed for Non-Combat use such as Construction and Agriculture.
He heard his father call his name and he immediately cursed as he pulled the plug on his Gestalt Adapter, a man-to-machine interface that allows pilots to immediately learn how to use the machine they were using through the use of a Cybernetic implant on the spine, off as he climbed out of it and put his shirt on as he ran inside to his home to find his father and younger sister looking at him with a disapproving look on their faces.
"You slept late last night again," his father scolded him.
"Sorry I took off with the Mobile Worker last night," he explained.
"Oh I know," He said as Alon's blood ran cold, last night he had taken the Mobile Worker for a joyride with a few of their friends as they decided to break a few dumpsters within the vicinity just for their alcohol-fueled amusement.
"Because only you were smart enough to try and break our dumpster by crashing the Mobile Worker in the line of our Cameras while trying to pretend it was an accident." His younger sister Marina, a beautiful teenager with fair skin and dark red hair and light green eyes, raised her phone showing a video feed of Alon crashing the Mobile Worker and was followed by him stepping out of it, at first he had an amused look on his face as he smiled and grinned but he looked around and had this look of horror on his face as he realized and then ran back inside the Mobile Worker and proceeded to drive away.
"We'll talk about that later," His father said crossing his arms, trying to look angry but was clear he was amused. Well, Alon has amused at his alcohol-fueled stupidity but it was mostly overlapped by his fear of punishment after he had been caught, Marina herself can see it as well.
"In the meantime, your sister is gonna be late so drive her to school."
"Yes sir," He groaned internally fearing for the worse later on Marina grinned as they hop into their Father's truck and drove off. But not before she decided to punch him in the arm as he started the truck.
"Ouch! Hey!" Alon gave a minor glare at Marina.
"That's for not telling me you and the others are going to smash Dumpsters," She told him with an annoyed pout. Due to the high durability of both the Mobile Workers and the Dumpsters, it was a common pastime in the Agriculture Areas for teens and young adults to crash their Mobile Workers to see which one will break first.
"There was alcohol involved so of course, I wouldn't invite you there in fact nobody except for us knows about it," Alon explained as he is eighteen and Marina is sixteen and neither of them should be around alcohol. "Not to mention the Top Student of your class shouldn't even be seen drinking."
"Says the Honor Student that never went to University." She countered as he smiled in amusement. It was no secret that Alon was the top student of his year and could even apply for a scholarship with his intellect but instead he had chosen to help on the Farm rather than pursue a college degree, though he did promise his father that he'll enter University once Marina can get a Job in the future he just needs to work until they can afford it.
"Not never just not yet," Alon explained as they drove into her School's parking lot.
"Thanks, I'll probably just walk home with my friends," She said as she got out of the car and saw the rest of her friends, some of whom were seen excitedly waving at him. It was also no secret between the two of them that he was popular with the women something that mildly annoyed Marina to no end. "Sure but if something happens don't hesitate to call me okay," He called out to her as she ran towards her friends.
Come to think of it, I bet the others are already getting ready for their first day in university. Alon thought to himself as he went back to his seat and began to drive away. While he reasoned that he was going to let Marina graduate and get a job first, it wasn't why he didn't want to enter University.
He let out a defeated sigh as he drove past the Pilot Academy catching a glimpse of their Mechs undergoing their training drills while other Cadets went about doing their classes or morning routines. Alon didn't want to enter university to pursue a college degree, he wanted to become a Soldier and see the Stars and explore the Galaxy, but until they can afford extra farmhands and a steady source of income that isn't determined by the crop yields, his place was here on Mars.
It didn't help that the farm they lived on was located far off the City and is basically in the middle of nowhere. But his heart was set on joining the Military, he just needs to wait a little longer and when they have enough money then he'll join the Pilots Academy when the time comes.
Alon's thoughts were interrupted by the sight of something crashing into the fields of his farm nearly causing him to crash on a nearby tree. "The hell?" Alon said grabbing his work gloves alongside a fire extinguisher and hopping out of the car and sprinting his way towards the crash site.
Please be okay, He thought to himself as he got closer and nearly stopped his tracks as he got closer. It was a Mech, and yet it was designed differently from the Mechs used by the Greater Ariesian Sovereign, or even the Mechs used by the Neo Galilean Principality shown on Television.
Remembering why he is heading there in the first place, he sprinted towards the Mech and looked around to see for an emergency opening should something like this to ensure the retrieval of the Pilot. However, the Mech in question had been in a different dialect unlike those native to the Sovereign or the Empire instead it appeared to be using the language of Old Earth causing him to press the hatch without hesitation hoping it will open for him.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
To his luck the cockpit opened with a hiss revealing the Pilot inside, he was unable to determine if they are alive or not but he carefully pried himself away from the Controls and then proceeded to carry him to the back of the truck where he gently placed him there.
Alon placed his hand on their chest but he was unable to tell if they survived or not causing himself to go and gently remove the Helmet to reveal a man a few years older than he was with black hair and without wasting any more time he began to resuscitate him hoping for a chance that he will live As he did the young adult began to let out a gasp of air causing Alon himself to let out a sigh of relief.
"Where am I?" The Pilot said getting up.
"Careful you just crashed a while ago, you're in my Family Farm," Alon said helping him up and the two looked at the remains of the Mech he was using. But before he can explain further, the Pilot had passed out due to exhaustion.
[Legacy of Earth]
He gently laid down the Pilot by the bed of his room and grabbed the nearby first aid kit, silently thankful that his father was off drinking for the day and Marina was at her School studying. As for the Mech in question due to the size of the Mech, which is around eighteen meters tall not including any potential modifications that the Pilot may include, is still left by the field but he managed to put out most of the fires but still left a massive Mech sized hole on their field.
"I didn't smash any Dumpsters but I pretty much burned an entire field of crops now," Alon told himself in exasperation as he went inside to check on the Pilot. Fearing the possibility of him immediately attacking him on sight, especially with the ongoing war against the Principality there was a good chance he could be a spy from the Principality and he was not willing to risk the possibility of getting killed for helping him out and so he decided to tie him up on the bed so he can rest after patching him up with the best he can.
But as soon as he entered the room carrying a tray of food, he may have tied him up to his bed he was not one to deny a visitor proper hospitality. Unfortunately, he was slammed against the wall and staring down the end of a Knife at the end of his throat.
"Where am I and who are you?" The Pilot glared at him as he pinned him against the wall his brown eyes met with and it was clear that he carried the intent to kill him.
"I'm Alon Akunawa and you're in the Akunawa Farms in the Sovereign, you crashed into the field of the Farm and I had to carry you back here to our home cause you looked roughed up from the crash so I patched you up," Alon explained hurriedly as he was afraid of the Pilot. It was understandable that he'd suspect him for taking him prisoner and even he would have done something similar if he were in his shoes.
"Farm boy huh, fine I'll let you live for now." The Pilot said as he let go of his grip and he slumped to the flood with a sigh, glancing to the side he saw that the tray of food he was planning on giving to him had spilt.
"I'll clean this up," Alon said as he proceeded to grab the plates and food that had fallen to the ground, he looked to the side and saw that the Pilot pulled out a phone and began to tap a few messages as if trying to get it to work and then checked his pockets.
He must be looking for his gun, Alon concluded as he remembered that he hid the Pilot's gun in a drawer in the Kitchen earlier as a precaution if the Pilot would do something. However, he did not expect that he had a knife hidden in his body so he didn't check thoroughly.
"So which side are you on?" Alon asked deciding to bite the bullet and find out more about the Pilot. To which he promptly ignored him and looked around the room and then turned to Alon again grabbing him by the collar and pinning him again against the wall with a knife.
"Where's my Mech?" He asked with a cold stare, he was calm but in the tone of his voice, he was angry. It was after all his potential means of escaping the area.
"It was still in the crash site where I found you!" Alon explained in a panic since it was clear that he could have killed him then and there if he doesn't answer. The Pilot was about to say something else but they heard the sounds of several Trucks landing arriving by the front of the Farm's entrance.
What caught the interest of Alon was the insignia of the Trucks bearing the symbol of the Seven Hundred Fifty-Seventh Autonomous Legion otherwise known as the Orthus Legion, a specialized Unit of the Sovereign which was advertised to represent the best of the Army best known for their symbol of a two headed white wolf on their equipment.
"Did you call them?!" He yelled at him.
"No! I swear I didn't!" Alon said as what he saw next had drained the colour out of his face. Because on one of the Trucks, he saw his Parents and Marina dragged out of the Truck in cuffs, an Orthus Stepped out of the Truck carrying a Megaphone and aimed at the House.
"Alon Akunawa, you are currently harboring a wanted Mercenary. Cooperate with us and I assure you that your family will be in safe hands." The Leader said an older woman in her thirties as more Orthuses continued to pour out of the trucks and aimed their rifles at them this caused the Pilot to throw him to the ground and immediately lifted a nearby table to form a makeshift barricade.
"Don't listen to her, this is a standard Orthus operating procedure." The Pilot explained looking around for his gun. "Even if you agree with their terms they'll throw you and your family in prison, and for an added measure they will silence anyone who would dare ask for your whereabouts. It's as if you and your family never existed."
"Cooperate or you and your family will be branded as traitors and will be executed! You have five minutes to comply." The Leader continued as a handful of soldiers walked toward his family and aimed their guns at them.
"Listen to them, Alon!" Marina shouted at him, this caused Alon to peek through the windows despite the Pilot's warnings and he felt his heart ripped out as he saw that Marina was covered in bruises and was on the verge of tears as one soldier aimed the barrel of his gun at the back of her.
Meanwhile, their parents looked as though they had put up a fight but were quickly beaten up by the soldiers which had replaced Alon's heartache seeing his sister like that to rage. All this was his doing, his family had nothing to do with this and yet there they were suffering from the results of his actions.
"If I surrender, I'll die anyway," Alon told himself causing the Pilot to turn to him with a grim look on his face as he nodded. There was only one option he needed to do if he wanted his family to live.
"I'll help you but under one condition."
