The bell rang, signaling the break period in Class 10-D, and a burst of laughter erupted as three friends gathered in their corner of the classroom. Grace, the shortest of the trio with her round face framed by long hair neatly braided into two plates, was the most animated. Sophia, of medium height and with hair similarly styled in plates, had a diamond-shaped face that lit up with her infectious smile. Avery, the tallest, with her heart-shaped face and short hair fashioned into two playful ponies, added her deep laughter to the mix.
Their carefree chatter was suddenly interrupted by a chilling series of screams emanating from the floors below. The once cozy classroom atmosphere turned tense as the girls' faces paled. Grace's laughter faltered, and she shrank back, her eyes wide with fear. Avery, always the brave one, stood up decisively and headed towards the door. Sophia's gaze followed her with concern.
Avery's face, usually so confident, twisted into a mask of terror as she peered into the hallway. Without a word, she raced back into the classroom, slamming the door shut behind her. She hurriedly moved a heavy, empty bench in front of the door and locked it, a determined look in her eyes.
Confusion spread among the classmates as they shouted questions and demands. Sophia, who had been trying to process the situation, finally snapped. "Everyone, be quiet!" she shouted over the din. "We need to stay calm and think this through."
For what seemed like hours, the girls and their classmates were left in a state of anxiety, listening to the relentless screams echoing through the school. The noise grew louder and more desperate as time passed, and the tension in the room was palpable. The students were paralyzed by fear, none willing to make a move.
Sophia finally took a deep breath and approached the door, her heart pounding. She attempted to open it, but it was stuck fast. The others protested loudly, their anxiety mounting. Just then, the screams outside intensified, and Grace, her voice barely a whisper, said, "I think... I think they're zombies!"
A stunned silence fell over the room. While some of the students dismissed Grace's words as hysteria, a few couldn't shake the notion that she might be right. As panic threatened to overtake them, the class decided to investigate the situation. However, despite their collective efforts, the door remained stubbornly closed.
Desperate to find out what was happening, the students noticed a small window high above the blackboard. They decided to use it as an escape route. The boys, motivated by a mix of bravery and curiosity, began to climb on each other's shoulders to reach the window. One of them, Arthur, pulled out his phone and took a few pictures of the hallway.
The images that appeared on the screen were horrifying. There were only one or two figures visible in the corridor, but the remaining zombies were presumably lurking somewhere below. As the group considered their options, a scream from a nearby building pierced the air. Instantly, all the zombies in sight turned and shuffled away towards the source of the new sound, leaving the hallway eerily empty.
Realizing that the zombies had moved away, the three girls, joined by Arthur, decided it was safe enough to venture out. Grace, though relieved at the prospect of safety, was left behind because Avery and Sophia felt it was too dangerous for her to come along. Grace, though weak and fearful, was also the most caring and beautiful of the group, and they wanted to keep her safe.
The trio made their way to the classroom on the floor below, hoping to find food and water. They gathered all the water bottles they could find but discovered that the water dispenser on their floor was broken. Desperate, they decided to descend to the next level. The sight of numerous zombies down there prompted them to act quickly. They tossed a water bottle down the stairs to lure the zombies away from their current floor, filled their bottles, and made their way back to their classroom.

By the time they returned, it was around 8 PM. Exhausted and hungry, they shared the food and water they had scavenged. The atmosphere was subdued but grateful. With nothing else to do, they settled down for the night, finding solace in each other's company as they talked and tried to calm their nerves.
In the midst of the chaos, their friendship had become their anchor. They knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together. And as the night wore on, the echoes of the screams gradually faded, leaving only the flickering lights and the comforting presence of friends to guide them.
The morning light filtered through the dusty classroom windows, casting a faint glow over the huddled group of students. The girls had slept in one corner, while the boys had taken the other. Sophia was the first to wake, her stomach rumbling loudly, a stark reminder of their predicament.
"Guys, I'm very hungry, and there's not much food left for us or the class. Most of the food we got is gone because everyone was hungry last night and there wasn't much in the first place. What do we do now?" Sophia asked, her voice laced with concern.
Grace, always quick to offer a suggestion, replied, "I-I think we'll have to go out to get some, but you guys already got all the food you could find on this floor and the floor below. Going even lower is dangerous."
The girls nudged Avery awake, who was sleeping peacefully like nothing had happened. "Aaah! I want to sleep. Don't wake me up now!" Avery grumbled.
"We don't have any food, and you're sleeping like nothing happened!" Sophia retorted, her frustration boiling over as she smacked Avery's head.
"Okay, okay, I'll get up," Avery conceded, knowing that Sophia's temper was fragile, especially when she was hungry. An angry Sophia was a force to be reckoned with, and Avery didn't want her shouts attracting any more zombies.
As Avery rubbed the sleep from her eyes, Sophia muttered, "I'm hungry!"
Just then, Grace's eyes widened in realization. "Hey, did you guys notice that those girls are missing? I mean, they're not here." These were the girls who were not exactly friends with them: Ava, Paige, and Maya. The trio had always had a strained relationship with them.
"Yeah, I saw them going out last night," Avery said nonchalantly.
"How do you know that? And why didn't you wake me up?!" Sophia demanded, her curiosity piqued and frustration rising.
"I was woken up by the door's sound. Anyways, I wake up early, you know that. So, I followed them outside after closing the door from outside. I took the bat; I thought they wanted to call the zombies here, but they actually planned to leave the school. They took all the food from the canteen and some weapons and came to the second floor. I don't know how none of them were scratched or bitten. Then I saw a bite mark on Ava. She turned and bit them all, so I distracted them by throwing a bottle on the other side and took all the food and weapons they found," Avery explained.
"You should've woken me up right then! I also wanted to see those bitches. And where is the food?" Sophia asked, her hand resting on her grumbling stomach.
"Next time I will wake you up, okay? The food is in our bag, check it," Avery said with a laugh, joined by Grace's giggles.
Sophia rummaged through the bag, her eyes lighting up at the sight of the provisions. "Okay, at least we have something. But we need to figure out how to get more without risking our lives."
The three girls huddled together, brainstorming their next move. They knew they couldn't stay in the classroom forever. They needed a plan, not just for food but for survival. Avery, who had proven her resourcefulness the previous night, suggested they scout the other floors again, this time with a better strategy.
"We need to be careful, but we also need to be brave," Grace said, surprising her friends with her sudden burst of determination.
Avery nodded. "We'll take turns keeping watch and ration the food we have. We need to conserve our energy and stay alert. And most importantly, we stick together."
With a tentative plan in place, the girls prepared to face another day in the nightmare their school had become. Despite the fear and uncertainty, their friendship gave them strength, and they knew that as long as they had each other, they could survive anything.
The day had just begun, and their journey was far from over. But in the heart of chaos, they found hope in their unity, ready to face whatever horrors lay ahead...
