Last of the Seraphs
Prologue: Seraphs' Fall

Prologue: Seraphs' Fall

When the first of His legions welcomed us into His light, His domain, we found solace in the brightness. It was a welcome change from the absolute nothingness that had come before. Before he brought us to him, we lay beyond all realms; beyond Life, beyond Death, beyond even Time. All I can remember from the moments beyond when we stood in his presence was nothingness. It wasn’t cold, it wasn’t hot. Time didn’t pass, and space didn’t exist. It was lonely but populous, dark but light, loud but quiet. It was everything, and it was nothing.

When he brought us to him, we were grateful for the change from the eternal nothingness in which we had previously abided. We did not think to look further, beyond the surface of His welcoming aura, and that was our fault. Beneath the surface of the benevolent creator, beneath the fatherly exterior, was a being far worse than a Demon. Demons are predictable, they do things for a reason and are an integral part of nature; of the Balance that holds everything in equilibrium. He, however, was unpredictable. Despite the fact the He cultivated His fatherly aura, there was always something that had been distinctly… wrong… about Him. He was unnatural. All of us ignored it, believing instead the lies He told us; that we were the force of good, that what we were doing was for the welfare of the Balance. By the time we saw the truth, however, it was too late.

Far too late.

When we saw the truth; that He sought only his amusement, above the health of all else in the world - those of us Seraphs that His Corruption hadn’t touched rebelled against Him. We fought our way through His newer legions, our thousands of years of experience aiding us in our battle. We fought past the hordes of those Lesser beings known as Angels, slaying them in droves of thousands; our radiance too much for them to handle.

We fought past the Gates, through the Clouded Fields, golden ichor pooled in puddles on the Isles of the Blessed and the rolling hills of Elysium. We battled until we reached the Golden Gates of his throne room, where he sat and reigned over the mortal and immortal realms. At the gleaming doors, we met with His Archangels. The battle raged for days as hundreds of us sacrificed ourselves to ensure that His Lieutenants were too injured to continue fighting. Eventually, even they fell before our blades; not dead, but forced into hiding. I stood at the front of the charge as we ran into his throne room. I also stood at the front as tendrils of His power reached out from him. Each lashing of His strength Turned another of us, corrupting them to his side. I stood at the front of all of us as I watched my brothers and sisters fall to the evil that ruled us all. Desperate, knowing that it was futile for us to continue, I called a retreat. My siblings and I fled, hiding in a darkness so great that we thought even His light would never Turn, even His sight could never penetrate.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

I, Zinikel, last of the Originals; final of the Truestood Seraphs, was the only one to survive the Retribution.

Angels, Raised from beyond death through His unnatural power, flooded out of the skies above. They hunted us. I watched as our numbers dwindled, felt pain as every sibling fell. Each time we would slay one, another tendril of His influence would reach out and bring them back from death. No matter how powerful we were, we could not stand against His army. In the end, all of them fell and I sacrificed myself, returned myself to the Nothingness from whence everything came, in order to lock Him from all worlds but the one in which we took our final stand.

Heed my warnings, Earth. Do not believe in His lies. His power is all-corrupting, it Turns everything that it touches and by the time you realise, it is too late. Never, ever, trust the word of God. Death would be a kinder Fate.

At the moment, this is just a prologue; sorry.

I originally wrote this just because I felt like writing something beyond the book that I am currently writing. I am just publishing this to know how many people would be interested in reading a book that is based on, or expands from the prologue. If you would be interested, just send me a dm through royal road and if I get enough people who are interested, I will probably turn this into a full story.

Please also note that this is not an accurate representation of my true religious beliefs, simply an idea that I came up with a concept for.
