Chapter 1: The young girl

Just as a reminder that this reboot will not follow the original story, but will hold some of the same elements. The reason is that I have no idea what he's lacking in the last chapter, haha. I wish he told me.

Thank you!

Enjoy!

When Khan looked around he was surrounded by endless darkness. He had no control over his body beside the movement of his head and arms.

‘Is this a dream?’ Khan asked himself.

Khan was suddenly blinded by bright white light. In front of him stood Rin with her beautiful blonde hair and deep blue eyes. Khan reached his hands out to her, but was a few inches short of reaching her. He wanted to scream out her name, but couldn’t do so.

Khan watched as tears poured down her face with a sad expression as she turned the other direction to slowly walk away. He wanted to run after her to grab Rin from behind, but no matter how hard he tried he just couldn’t move his legs. All he could do was watch Rin as she disappeared into the darkness.

“Rin!” Khan screamed as he woke up from the nightmare.

He was heavily panting as he felt cold from the sweat that drenched his body, but behind his head and around his chest he felt the warmth of another person embracing him.

In front of him, Khan saw a pair of plain brown eyes of a young girl with short black hair tied up in a ponytail staring down at him. She looked to be around the age 10 – 12.

“Good Morning.” The young girl said tonelessly.

“Good morning.” Khan replied back awkwardly.

He wasn’t sure what was going on, but honestly he just wanted her to leave he can hopefully die from starvation, the cold, or a wild animal so he wouldn’t have to suffer anymore. Khan didn’t want to start a new life without Rin, he rather just die to go hell for his punishment for the crimes he had crimes he had committed in the war. Maybe one day their souls will meet once more after he received his punishment. Of course that’s just his wishful thinking.

Khan watched the girl quietly stare at him. He couldn’t deny he was a bit curious on where this girl came from, why is she giving him a lap pillow, and how long she has been here. Khan decided it was best to not talk to the girl. Hopefully that would get her to leave him alone in peace.

After a few minutes of staring at each other without a word, Khan closed his eyes.

‘She might leave faster if I pretend to sleep’ Khan thought to himself.

He could’ve just asked her to leave, but Khan hesitated. Khan felt happy because this was the first time anyone ever comfort him when he was depressed or injured. He knew that this girl didn’t know he was depressed, but it doesn’t matter right now because all that matter was the warmth he felt from her body.

The reason for his joy is because during his training for the government and deployment in the war, no one ever cried or felt extreme joy for Khan after surviving a life threatening injury.

They would just either yell at Khan for getting injured in the first place or just shrug it off as if it was a normal thing and send him back to training or the battlefield after he barely recovered. Yaza was the worst offender out of all of them.

A prime example would be when Khan and Juki was requested by another high ranking officer to help escort him to meet double agents they had placed in the enemy army.

The truth was that, the high ranking officer was actually a sleeper agent for the enemy army who was activated during the start of the war.

Khan and Juki were deemed as future high potential dangers. So the Officer used this chance to ambush them using the escort mission as a cover to get rid of Khan, Juki, and the double agents.

Then he would return to enemy country with all the government information after the ambush as he was under the suspicion of espionage.

The mission was a failure for the enemy because Yaza was sent to secretly follow behind and was able to stop the enemy from successfully killing Khan and Juki.

Juki came out with just a cut on his arm. All the double agents were killed before they could do anything. Khan was stabbed from behind from the Officer, but barely dodged just enough to have him miss the heart.

When Khan was on the floor bleeding out with Juki was trying to patch him up. Yaza just laughed and stepped on Khan’s stomach saying how weak he was for being almost assassinated.

Rin was the only who truly cared Khan, but he never got injured or was depressed since he was under house arrest with her.

Another few minutes passed by as he pretended to be asleep. The girl didn’t make any movement or sound. The only thing that could be heard was the rumbling of his stomach from hunger.

He felt something was being forced into his mouth. When Khan opened his eyes the girl was trying to force feed him red berries. Khan grabbed her hand.

“What are you doing?” Khan asked.

“You’re hungry so I’m feeding you berries.” The young girl replied tonelessly.

“I’m not hungry.”

“Yes you are.”

Before Khan could respond his stomach rumbled louder.

“…”

She tried to force the berries back into his mouth.

“Wait!” Khan yelled out.

“Yes?” The young girl replied.

“You’re feeding me poison berries that young children can’t eat.”

“Oh sorry, I didn’t know.” The girl replied tonelessly as she tossed the berries back into the small brown leather shoulder bag she wore.

“Wait! I was wrong give me the berries.”

Khan was so focused on stopping her from feeding him so he can die from starvation that he could’ve just had her feed him the poison berries instead to help him end his life more quickly.

“Sorry, just to be safe we’ll just wait till we get home to get you food.” The girl replied.

“Don’t worry about me, my family will come here and pick me up. Just leave me here.” Khan said.

“I can’t do that. It’s too dangerous to leave a young child like you in this woods alone.”

“Isn’t it also dangerous for a young girl like you to be in this woods alone with this young child?”

“I can use magic.”

“Magic isn’t real, I won’t fall for those children story.” Khan replied.

Khan watched as the girl raised her hand toward the small tree in front of them.

“[Fireball]!” The girl said emotionlessly.

He saw a ball of fire fly from her hand, that was the size of a male adult head, hit the small tree to ignite it on fire.

Khan had his mouth wide opened as he watched this scene unfold in front of him. It wasn’t powerful compared to the Ki attacks he had, but in the Ki world this was be extremely devastating because most Ki practitioner aren’t able to expel Ki from their body for a long range attack until advance class, which took on average the age of 44 to achieve.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

If young children could learn such long range attack like the [Fireball] she had just casted, then the battlefield would completely change.

Khan just stared with his mouth still wide at the young girl who had an expressionless face. It’s been so long since he was surprised about something.

“Ok, we should go home now. My father will be worried about me.” The girl said.

Khan just nodded back to the girl as they got up from the ground. When they got up, she grabbed his hand tightly.

‘Looks like she not going to let me run.’ Khan laughed to himself.

Using a few harsh words Khan most likely could’ve pushed the girl away, but he made a promise with Rin to be a much kinder man. Also he didn’t feel like causing pain to a young girl who was trying to help him out.

He decided to find a way to run away later when she isn’t looking so he can end his life.

“…”

‘I used to try my hardest to survive all my life, but now I’m trying to my hardest to end it.’ Khan laughed at himself again for this ridiculous situation.

Khan followed behind the girl with neither of them saying a single word. He let his mind drift off as he thought about Rin. The way she smelt, the sound of her voice when she called his name, and her warmth. The more he thought about Rin, His heart and body continued to sink heavier.

This was the first time Khan ever felt so strongly about someone death. Killing and the death of others felt natural in his life because he lived on the battle for his entire life.

After thinking deeply for what felt like an eternity, Khan was pulled back to reality when they stopped moving.

In front of Khan was a small mud cottage with a single door, two windows and, a straw roof. When he looked around at his surrounding, he noticed about 10-12 more small mud cottage that looked run-down compared to this young girl home. Beside those small mud cottages there was one bigger house that looked to be the head town official home, well, a church, and farmland on the other side of town. They didn’t have paved roads, shops, garrisons, or a defensive wall. It was a rather undeveloped and impoverish village.

From behind Khan heard heavy footsteps. When he turned around it was a man in his 30’s with black hair and brown eyes sprinting toward Khan and the young girl. The man wrapped his arms around the young girl when he reached her.

“Where were you? I was so worried that you didn’t show up for magic class at the church!” The man said as he gasped for air.

“I was looking for food early in the morning when I found this boy sleeping on the ground.” The young girl replied neutrally.

“What, whose child is this!?”

“I don’t know.”

“What do you mean, you don’t know?” The man said to the young girl as he looked like he was about to have a heart attack.

“Give me a second father.”

Khan gazed back at the young girl who looked at him emotionlessly while her father was staring back and forth between Khan and the young girl.

“I should’ve asked for this earlier, but what’s your name?” The girl asked.

“My name is Khan.” Khan replied.

“Nice to meet you, my name is Yuna.”

Yuna turned her attention back to her father.

“Father his name is Khan.” Yuna said.

“…”

There was awkward silently as Khan watched Yuna wait for a respond from her father.

“We have to return him to his family, Yuna.” The father said.

“No. I think we should avoid that topic. I decided to take Khan in to take care of him.” Yuna replied emotionlessly.

“What do you mean avoid it? This isn’t something you can decide on your own.”

“Father, he isn’t showing it now, but he has the same expression as you when mother, grandpa, and grandmother died. I will support him until his family personally comes pick him up or when he’s healthy enough to take care of himself.”

“We just don’t have enough food to support another member in the family.” The father said with a sad expression.

“He’s a small child, I will give him a share of my food father. I will also forge for more food by skipping classes if I have to.”

Khan was grateful that she offered to protect him because this was the first time anyone ever wanted to protect Khan. When he was in the army, everyone assumed he was strong enough to protect himself so even as a general he would go to the frontlines without any bodyguards.

“Thank you Yuna, but I don’t need any protection. I will be fine.” Khan said.

“No.” Yuna said bluntly as she clenched his hand tighter.

Khan gave up. He decided to find a way to escape later unnoticed. She can’t keep a watch on him all day.

“Let’s just go in the house so we can talk about what to do next.” The father said dejectedly.

Khan followed Yuna into the house as she pulled his hand.

In the house Khan saw a kitchen with a fire place, two counters to hold dry food, and plates with utensil on shelves. In the middle of the kitchen was a small wooden table to sit 6 people. There were three rooms with beds and wooden chest to hold their belonging.

Khan was seated by Yuna who sat next to him with her father across the table.

“My name is Russell, I’m Yuna’s father. Let me ask you a few questions if you don’t mind young boy.” Russell said.

“Call me Khan.”

“Ok Khan, where is your family and where are you from.”

“I don’t have family and I don’t know where I’m from.”

“…”

“I think I’m done for the day with all this madness from you and my daughter. I’m going back to the field to work. Please stay within the village and I’ll prepare dinner when I’m back.” Russell said with a huge sigh as he left the cottage.

Khan turned his attention to Yuna who was gazing back at Khan as she continued to hold his hand.

“I’m curious about magic, will you teach me some?” Khan asked.

“Yes, we can head to the church to get your affinity by the priest. He knows magic and can check affinities of others.” Yuna replied emotionlessly.

Khan got up as Yuna pulled him to the church.
