Book 3 Chapter 11: Which Tells of A Close Call

“IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME, MUJIHINA," the maila greeted himself as he laid his claymore onto his shoulder.

"You!" Kunshu yelled in rage. "You're the assassin! I've been meaning to pay you back ever since you tried to kill me! I have been looking for you. How nice of you to come right to my front door." Although he tried to hide it, Kunshu was terrified of the ghostly figure before him.

"Well, unlike you, I have manners," Zeronius retorted. "I even knocked, but you never came to answer."

"I have Deity Mode this time," Kunshu replied to this statement, shifting his attention entirely away from the blinded Yukan. "I will not run away from such a pathetic attacker."

"You've grown too dependent on that form as of late," Zero remarked as he got into a fighting stance. "You've forgotten that fate has turned its back upon you."

As Kunshu charged at him, Zero shot three rounds at him using his revolver. The rounds, however, possessed no magical properties. Consequently, they did not affect the wielder of the Alpha Blade. Once Kunshu got within swinging range, the immortal creature grabbed his claymore once again and blocked Kunshu's attack.

Yukan, seeing an opening to patch up his wounds, propped himself against one of the peaks on the roof. With a ragged breath, he slid one of the sleeves on his leather jacket down and tore the sleeve off of his red shirt. After managing to tear it in half to create a blindfold, he placed it over his eyes and tied it closed, effectively bandaging his eyes.

Meanwhile, Zero and Kunshu appeared to be arm and arm. Both of them failed to land any blows upon one another. Instead of a fight, it began to look like a practice session where one would attempt a blow with the intent of the other finding a way to counter it. Suddenly, Zero managed a slice on Kunshu's right arm, but his dominant limb had been left unscathed. The maila now had the king of Aotoshi in a compromising position as he began to back him up to the edge of the roof. Kunshu, seeing a window of opportunity, swiftly moved behind his opponent and tripped him over the edge. Realizing that he would likely plummet over the side, he grabbed onto the side of the roof, dropping his claymore to improve his grip.

"You have grown weak," Kunshu mocked, bluffing and bragging about his improved strength. "I had a harder time fighting the kid than I did with you."

"I was never meant to defeat you," Zero admitted to his opponent. "I was here to buy time. Yukan, I leave this in your hands. You got this." Just as he finished saying this, he released his grip and descended to the floor. He did not fear death as he plummeted since he was immortal.

Yukan heard what his general had said, but he knew one thing was certain: he wasn't able to fight his opponent in his current state.
