I waited anxiously for the game to finally start. There’s still about 5 minutes more, but I’ve already booted up my VR helmet and I’m in a virtual waiting space. As part of the celebrations for the beginning of this game, many in game events are taking place such as the first character created will be rewarded, or the first unique and legendary class to be granted will be given a special notification that will announce their great luck to the rest of the world.
As I continue to wait restlessly, 5 minutes was gradually up. The icon for ‘Kingdom of Rebirth’ on the main screen turned from red to green, signifying that it was now open. I pressed the launch button without hesitation as I felt my consciousness begin to fade.
When I opened my eyes, a female voice rang in my ears. “Welcome to Kingdom of Rebirth. I will be asking you a total of 50 simple questions and you are to answer with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. These questions will be drawn from a pool of 25,473 questions and will determine the class you will be given in this game. In the event your answers lead you to multiple class choices, your actions during tutorial will affect the class you get which could change at the end of the tutorial.” The voice was monotonous yet it had a very harmonious ring to it.
Without a break, the female voice started asking questions. The questions were really weird! I was asked if I think democracy was the best way to rule a country, to questions like if I liked bathing in a river. There were also awkward questions like have you been obsessed about an object before and have you been in love before. After answering the 50 questions, the voice rang inside my head. “Without further ado, your tutorial will begin, the tutorial ends when you reach level 5 and you will be sent to 1 of the 4 starting villages in the continent of Odeyssia. Once more, I felt my consciousness fade.
I blinked twice, before I realize the scene before me. I was inside of a large tent, and I quickly called out menu to open up the main menu of the game. Clicking on the status option, the following information appeared.
Name: Kyle Schwarz (Nickname unknown)
Level: 1
Class: Novice warrior
Guild: None
Stats:
HP: 200
MP: 50
STR: 10
INT: 5
AGI: 5
DEX: 5
Equipment:
Basic robe (equipped)
Basic axe (equipped)
On top of the equipment, I had 1000 Vz which was given as a bonus to the first 10000 players who created their character. I let out a sigh of relief as I looked at my class once again. Although it may not be something special like a specialist or unique class, I had hoped to get a warrior class due to my personality to want to be in the vanguard of a fight. I would have been troubled if I had received a mage or any rearguard class as you can only make 1 character in Kingdom of Rebirth.
I walked out of the tent and was greeted very warmly by the people around me. At first glance, I could not tell that they were NPCs as they showed very life-like expressions and speech.
“Good morning young master, it is your coming of age ceremony today! I would like to congratulate you for finally turning into a fine young adult that will do our clan proud!” an old man with most of his hair already grey greeted me for the first time.
Not knowing what to say, the old man immediately continued. “Young master, as part of our traditional customs, please hunt 3 foxes and bring them back as a sacrifice for the initiation ritual. This is to prove your strength and courage to everyone. You may pass it to me, Elder Gordon. The woods where the foxes reside have already been marked on this map.”
Elder Gordon handed me the map. Instantly, the mini map and world map options appeared on the UI. The mini map has icons indicating the nearby people, and written on the legend was that players were in blue, registered friends on your buddy list in orange and NPCs in yellow. The world map option was pretty much useless at the moment, as the map automatically updates itself as you travel. As such, the world map was practically blank right now, with the exception of the shape of the continent.
I moved towards the location of the woods, the direction I had to proceed in is casually marked with a red cross that allows to see the general direction I have to proceed towards. After walking for several minutes, I reached the mouth of a foxes’ den.
I cautiously proceeded inside it, with the hand axe gripped in my right hand. However, due to the dimness of the den, I do not have much vision of everything around me. Suddenly, a dull pain could be felt on my ankle. I reflexively swung my axe towards the pain and it cleanly struck the surprised fox which bit me. A number appeared on top of the monster’s head appeared. 24 damage dealt. Concurrently, a HP bar with 60% of it still full as well as the name ‘red fox’ appeared above the foxes’ head.
My first attempt in melee combat against a fox in the game! I relied on my reflexes this time and manage to dodge the foxes’ approach to bite me. Before he could retreat from his failed attack, I brought down another blow on the fox, this time on its head. A critical hit! 50 damage! Could be seen, and the fox burst in to fragments of light, leaving behind some coins, and a fur pelt.
I proceeded deeper into the foxes’ den, and encountered another fox. However, this time it was a much bigger and fearsome looking fox. It was unlike the one I fought before, its fur was a blood red color and its fangs razor sharp fangs could be seen as it growled at me. I was slightly intimidated, as I forgot this was actually a game. I gathered my wits and charged right at the fox.
The battle was nothing short of a close shave. With a single charge, I was caught off guard and surprised. Although it only took off a mere 10 HP, It left me stunned for 2 seconds. Enough for the fox to take a bite at me. The bite took off another 50 HP, however it also left a “bleeding” status on me. The status made me lose 1% of my total HP every second if I continue to be in a state of combat. I calmed myself and began my counter attack. I swing my axe in a cleaving motion, causing the fox to retreat warily. I immediately followed up with another swing, in a vertical direction in the path of its retreat which drew a deep gash on the fox.
28!
And as the damage was dealt, a HP bar 90% full appeared, and the name “Alpha fox” appeared. I continued to hack and slash towards the Alpha fox, my movements were beginning to be more refined, showing a semblance of footwork in martial arts, and my swings were thrown from directions that were maximizing and utilizing the centrifugal forces and momentum from the body to the limits. My swings were dealing a few points of damage more and I was somewhat kiting the alpha fox. The fight quickly ended without me taking further damage. However, as the bleeding status was still in effect, I had lost more than 80% of my health at the end of my fight.
After the fight, I realize that blows dealt at places such as the head or weak points deal more damage compared to normal blows. Also, utilizing centrifugal forces and creating a swinging motion while using your whole body deals more damage as well. I was inwardly shocked by how complex the system was made. I quickly pocketed the coins amounting to 50 Vz and another fox fur pelt.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
I walked another 2 steps back and saw a little baby fox. It had the same blood red fur as the Alpha fox I had fought earlier. It looked really scared as it stared at me. I immediately guessed that it must have been the offspring of the Alpha fox earlier.
I walked over slowly, “Little fox, I am really sorry that I killed your parent. I mean you no harm, won’t you come here? I will raise you and feed you. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”
In the dimness of the cave, I vaguely can make out an expression of relief appear on the little foxes’ face. It seemed to understand what I’ve said and ran over obediently. I slowly picked him up. “Your name shall be Garnet, a beautiful shade of red just like your fur.” Little Garnet let out a sharp “yap” as though signaling it’s approval as it snuggled and made itself comfortable in my arms.
Walking out of the cave, I checked my experience bar. It’s 80% filled and I walked back into the village. Walking to Elder Gordon, I gave him the fur pelts I gathered, and showed him Garnet.
“2 fur pelts from the fox, and this Garnet is that proof enough? I do not wish to kill this little fox and he has become tamed by me.” Elder Gordon looked at the fur pelts, and a shocked expression flashed across his face. “This…. This is the pelt of an Alpha fox! And isn’t that little fox a young Alpha fox?! This.. This is unprecedented!” the shocked expression quickly turned into a face full of smiles and Elder Gordon started laughing. “Hahahaha.. Young master surely has a bright future ahead, come! I have accepted your resolve and recognize your strength and courage, as well as your compassion towards this young alpha fox cub. I will now register her as your pet.”
As Elder Gordon touched Garnet, a bright light flashed.
Ding!
Alpha Fox (F) is registered as your pet! Give your pet a name?
“Garnet”
Name acknowledged. Garnet the Alpha Fox is now your pet.
“Come! It is time for the ritual!”
An elegant sound similar to the sound of someone pulling on the strings of a harp seem to be played at the back of my head. I realized I had reached level 2!
I hastily assigned the 5 stat points I was given into strength. As the elder brought me into his tent.
“Young master, as you know we are members of the Khan Clan. We are a nomadic clan that was famed for our hunting skills as well as our valiant warriors. However, with the change in times, we have been reduced to a village. However, one day the hero of our Khan Clan, will once again be reborn! As such, all members of our clan must go through the ritual. Come, I will bring you through the ritual.”
As Elder Gordon finished those words, my experience points pushed towards the end of the bar and broke through to level 3. Once again, I assigned my stat points and descended down the stone steps carved deep into the ground.
A circle with complex looking symbols and shapes drawn on it could be seen on the floor. Within the circle, a giant war axe with 7 jewels on its handle could be seen. The war axe was covered in chains very tightly.
“This is the war axe of our ancestor the great hero. The magic circle here recognizes the blood of the great hero and his descendants. Other people cannot enter it. You must first walk into the circle and touch the war axe.”
I walked into the circle, and casually lifted my hand to touch the axe. Immediately, the chains binding the axe burst into pieces. Information immediately flooded into my mind.
Images started appearing in my head, if I could look at the memories of someone, this would definitely feel like it. Images of a war, men covering the whole battlefield as far as the eyes could see. Images of maps, covered with crosses. Images of an enchanting beauty… The images suddenly came to a stop.
Ding!
Legendary Class: Genghis Khan
As you touched the axe, memories of the hero of the Khan Clan, Genghis Khan appeared in your head. You who has inherited the blood of the great conqueror, shall once again bring glory to the Khan Clan as the vessel of the conqueror himself reincarnated!
Skills learned:
Great Cleave
- With the might of the great conqueror, call forth your innate abilities and deal a horizontal slash, dealing 150% damage to nearby enemies followed by a vertical cleaving blow dealing 150% damage. The vertical blow ignores the enemies’ defense and has a 100% critical rate.
This legendary class has a restriction for stat allocation. Stats will be automatically allocated and cannot be manually allocated. Equipment restriction: Genghis Khan can only equip the mighty war axe “Regis” And can only wear heavy armor.
I was shocked. Things just happened before I could say anything. Elder Gordon was jumping up and down ecstatically as though he was a child once more. “The clan shall be revived! Our glory will once again be restored!”
I picked up the war axe and sheathed it on my back. Power seems to flow into me whenever I touched the mighty war axe. I shuddered thinking to myself that I must not become addicted to this feeling, and become controlled by my own weapon.
Elder Gordon led me back up into the tent and poured some tea as we sat down and he began to talk to me once more.
“You must have many questions going through your head right now, as to what had just happened. Firstly, that ritual you just did was set in 3 parts. By defeating the 3 foxes, you showed the courage and strength necessary of the Khan Clan’s warriors. By being able to step into that circle, you were able to prove your lineage as a descendant of the great Genghis Khan. And finally, went you manage to activate the war axe ‘Regis’, you gained the powers as his successor. Normally, the ritual ends when a member touches the axe. However, to think you would awaken the spirit of the great conqueror himself! Reincarnating as the conqueror and gaining all of his great abilities.”
“The great Genghis Khan’s war axe is a brilliant weapon. The 7 jewels will light up once you become stronger, each time according to your level. Also, they will bring forth a new skill as well as a new surprise every time. I have no idea what that surprise will be, but that’s what written on the records left behind.” Elder Gordon continued.
I could only sigh at how irresponsible the clan was, to indicate such important information as a mere surprise. “Young master of the Khan Clan, although you have become the reincarnation of the great conqueror himself, you are a far cry from him! In fact, you are nothing but a fraction of his former glory! First, you must decide a nickname for yourself. Something the world will refer to you as.”
“Ikaerus. I want to be known as Ikaerus.” I replied without hesitation.
“Very well, from now on young master you will be known as Ikaerus.”
I reopened the status window and the information now displayed:
