Chapter 12: Anything for Survival

Chapter 12: Anything for Survival

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the road strewn with remnants of shattered lives, I took a moment to survey the fruits of my scavenging efforts. The pickup truck, now laden with our newfound provisions, was a stark contrast to the desolation that surrounded it.

With a sense of grim satisfaction, I prepared to return to the mansion. The night's impending darkness brought an added layer of danger to the already treacherous landscape, and I knew the importance of returning swiftly.

Loading the truck with the salvaged goods, I paused to glance once more at the broken line of cars that bore witness to humanity's desperate attempt to escape the unfolding apocalypse. Each vehicle held stories of fear, courage, and the inevitability of the world they sought to leave behind.

I climbed into the driver's seat, the engine roaring to life, echoing through the silent night. The headlights pierced the darkness, revealing the desolate road ahead. My journey back to the mansion was guided by the pale glow of the moon, casting an otherworldly hue upon the remnants of a civilization that had crumbled in the face of an unstoppable force.

As the pickup truck rolled through the night, its cargo of survival weighed heavy on my mind. The choices made in the broken world outside would shape the fate of our fragile group within the mansion walls. With each passing mile, the reality of our existence became clearer – a delicate dance on the precipice of survival, where every resource gathered was a step towards defying the impending doom that loomed beyond the headlights' reach.

I arrived to the mansion, Amy and Steff immediately rush towards me as soon as I get back, worried about me, they both hugged my tightly.

In the garage where I parked the pick up truck, the three of us unloaded the supplies I took. "These are… supplies?" Amy can't believe what she is looking, canned foods is more than enough for them to survive half a year!

"Those are the supplies I took from those who tried to scape but failed…" I said gloomy, those are not an achievement I should be happy, I stole people's things, and those people are dead… I feel like I'm looting a tomb just to survive.

Steff, noticed my gloomy look, "Hey, Souta, i know that you must've been guilty after that but… you did that for us, we don't a choice" Steff, tried to comfort me.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

"I know"

Amy, who is staring at us feel bad for being happy after the loot, "not only canned foods but also gallons of water, half a dozen of propane gas, various tools and equipment.. and some… jewelry.. gadgets.. these are.." the atmosphere becomes gloomy.

"...these are remnants of lives that once held meaning," Amy finished her thought, her eyes reflecting a mix of appreciation for the supplies and the acknowledgment of the lives lost in the process.

As we organized the acquired resources in the mansion's storage, the weight of our actions lingered in the air. The canned goods, now neatly arranged on shelves, represented both sustenance and a harsh reminder of the cost of survival.

Steff, breaking the solemn silence, said, "It's a harsh world out there. We do what we must to survive."

I nodded in agreement, the reality settling in. The once vibrant world outside was now a graveyard of broken lives, and we were left to navigate its remnants.

Amy, grappling with conflicting emotions, finally spoke. "I hate that we had to do this, but I also understand why. It's just... hard."

"We'll get through this together," I reassured them. "Our focus should be on fortifying this place and ensuring our safety. We're a team, and we'll face whatever comes our way."

With a collective understanding, we set aside the emotional weight of our recent actions and concentrated on the practicalities of fortifying our stronghold. The mansion, once a symbol of luxury, now became a fortress in a world reshaped by chaos.

At night, after the dinner, we returned to our bedroom and once again slept in the same bed.

In the stillness of the night, I stirred awake to the sensation of Amy's affectionate advances. She initiated intimacy with a kiss, her actions growing more passionate. As she play with me, touching me with her playful hands, I fight back as a man, I should be on top, looking at her as I'm on top of her, she looks so pretty when she's embarrassed, I kissed her.

Little did I know, Steff, already awake, silently joined in, creating an unexpected but welcomed intimacy. As the night embraced us in its quietude. The shared moments in our makeshift sanctuary brought comfort in a world that seemed to have lost all sense of normalcy. Yet, with the dawn approaching, we returned to the harsh reality of our existence – a constant struggle for survival in a world overrun by the remnants of what once was.

In the morning, the two girls were in a good mood.

We continued our usual training routine, swinging our weapons in the backyard. As we practiced, we noticed planes and helicopters flying overhead. Amy enthusiastically waved at them, while Steff and I observed her with joy.

After lunch, I continued to make makeshift weapons, and fortifying the gate. While Steff and Amy continue to train.

I started by reinforcing the main entrance gate with sturdy wooden planks and metal sheets. I'd secure these materials from the loot I gathered from the Graveyards of cars, making sure they're firmly attached to the existing structure.

To prevent zombies from accumulating near the gates, I'd clear the immediate area of any obstacles, creating a buffer zone. Large furniture pieces like bookshelves or cabinets could be repurposed to fortify key points.

Next, I explored the surrounding area for additional resources that could be repurposed for defense. This include metal bars, chains, and even discarded materials from broken-down vehicles. Anything that could add an extra layer of protection to our stronghold.

Considering that sound attracts zombies, I also devise a silent entry and exit system for ourselves, creating a secondary entrance with minimal noise. This would allow us to move discreetly without drawing unnecessary attention.

Throughout this process, I engage Amy and Steff, seeking their input and assistance in fortifying the mansion effectively. Collaboration is key in ensuring that our defense strategy is well-rounded and considers the strengths and weaknesses of each team member.
