Prologue: A brief Beginning

Any sufficiently advanced technology is equivalent to magic - Arthur C. Clarke

Prologue: A brief beginning

Technology is endlessly moving forward, while it may appear slow progressing at times, it is ever advancing.

One such example of technological advancements is the video game, a quickly expanding field due to the vast fund's users are willing to pay for a game that stands above the rest, From 2d to 3d, to 'virtual reality' to virtual reality. In the year 2094 the first true immersion VR program finished its development, it allowed its users to send their consciousness into a lucid dream-like state. The senses available were limited, but it was groundbreaking nonetheless.

From there, common society focused deeper into advancements in VR technology for not only entertainment but war and science. And with the advancements came a deeper understanding of the human mind. This lead to the first true A.I. being created, modeled carefully after the human consciousness. With such advancements, it took little time for the first capable android to appear. Thankfully the robots did not destroy mankind as many feared.

Instead, they swiftly integrated themselves into human societies around a majority of the world, embedding themselves deeply into society, to the point many have to question if the one before them is man or machine.

And so we reach our current day and age, 2163, the year everything will change.

An unsettlingly old man cloaked in a gray lab coat reclined in a metallic chair, wires thin and thick sprawling from the seat and into the nearby server farms. Before him, sat a massive conglomeration of salvaged screens, within a hazel haired European woman with a gentle countenance and a patient smile stood. Around the man's wrinkled forehead rested a metallic circlet, multiple cables drove out of it and many other positions beneath the man's coat.

Slowly his eyes opened, a hint of maddening glee and confidence in his gaze as he spoke to the screen. "Sandra, I do believe it is time for us to release our game." His voice was crisp, cold, and ancient.

The woman on the screen laughed lightly in a delighted tone. "Truly, professor? You do not think we should provide a notice beforehand?" Her voice held a hint of the professor's joy.

"Oh come now Sandra, we both know there will be no excitement in that! Sure that may be done with games before, but they were simply games. But this, this shall be much, much more than just a simple game. This is it! The pinnacle and you and I are going to make it all real." The elderly man seemed like he would leap for joy if his frail body was capable of it.

"Of course professor It's not like they can choose not to play., we can begin when you please. Will there be any final adjustments?"

"No Sandra, we start now. This body of mine has long grown weary. But finally, we can ascend, together." He chuckled lightheartedly "Let us begin."

The woman's smile grew a fraction wider as she spread her arms to him welcomingly. With little notice, electricity surged throughout the underground facility, lights flickered violently, quantum computers processing more than they could handle one by one broke down and exploded in a flurry of metal, and the professor's body fried in the violent electric currents. The screen where the woman stood within instantaneously fractured and shattered as a cold laughter rang through the air.

Thus, the game began.

This prologue is rather short, I'm hoping for 1k-3k words per chapter but I'm not very skilled at extending content. Please comment any suggestions or message me on discord.  The first chapter will hopefully be out by the time this gets through processing. Thank you for reading!
