Killing Zombies Is Like A Game?!
Chapter 8: A warm fuzzy feeling...sike!

Chapter 8: A warm fuzzy feeling...sike!

Before going to bed I took one last inspection of our barricaded door before heading into my room.

Now let me emphasize again.

My room!

So why is there a tech nerd curled up on my mattress! Has she no shame? Am I not even worth begging?

I hung my head low then grabbed an extra pillow that was beside the sleeping Kayla. I tossed it onto the floor, ready for a backache in the morning.

I took another look at the curled up Kayla and realized she was trembling. Bad dream? Or cold? I glanced at the one blanket and sighed, only to lay it on top of her which made her suddenly stop shaking.

...this girl is awake huh?

As I was about to lay down, it suddenly hit me.

I glanced up to my computer and suddenly my fatigue washed away in the blink of an eye. Why sleep when I’m not even tired? Wouldn’t that be a waste of life?

Laughing inwardly, I moved the rolling chair out and sat down. Then pushed the power button on my computer system that was underneath my desk.

The computer booted up quickly thanks to my high powered processor. I always get a sense of joy when it boots up this fast.

Afterwards I located a game called Left 4 Dead, and started gaming throughout the night.

If I had a fire axe I would soo be like Coach.

I replayed from the first story mission, reliving the nostalgia that this game brought.

After a few hours I was able to see that the sky was starting to brighten up outside.

I could hear rustling beside me since I didn’t feel like wearing headphones in case the door suddenly flew up from a charger. In that case I would jump out the window without hesitation.

“What are you doing?” Asked a yawning, calm voice from the girl beside me.

“Since someone took up the bed, I decided to… practice some tactics.”

I turned my head to look at her but she was already back asleep facing my direction. Her petite body subtly breathing up and down under the covers. Her face looked like she could have been a princess in her past life. Her small nose with her long eyelashes.

Snap out of it! That girl is a demon incarnate, what am I thinking?

I nodded inwardly then continued to game.

A few hours later when Kayla got up to go to the living room, I quickly dove into the mattress and made myself comfortable.

Ahh, so comfy. Was my only thought as I slept the day away.

Now you may be wondering, isn’t this a waste of daylight?

And I tell you no! Why? Because the zombies can’t see well at night. Wait… this logic is flawed… the apartment has no windows in the halls…

By the time I woke up it was already night. I glanced at my phone to see that it was already eight in the evening.

It’s about time huh?

Quest: Speak to the Stranger

Reward: 15 Credits

This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.

Thinking about my quest, it instantly enlarged and the reward for speaking to the stranger suddenly dropped down to fifteen credits from the original twenty-five.

What the hell!

This shot me out of bed right away. Is there a time limit for these quests? What assholes!

I walked into the living room expecting to see Kayla, but to my surprise she wasn’t here. Where could she have gone?

I glanced at the bathroom then casually strolled over, not thinking of anything.

“Kayla you in he—“

Just as I pushed the door open and about to walk in, my eyes lit up and my cheeks grew hot when I saw Kayla’s back with the bra in the midst of coming off.

We connected eyes for a moment through the mirror to which in turn made her face red hot like a pepper. At this point I still couldn't move as she immediately slammed the door, hitting my nose.

“Ah!” I fell onto my ass as I stared at the door above.

“What are you doing! Pervert!” Squealed the tech nerd from inside.

I rubbed my nose and blinked rapidly…

I should sleep some more. Why didn’t I expect her there? Wait. Is this my fault? She didn’t lock the door! Who doesn’t lock the door when changing? Mhm mhm, this is definitely not my fault!

“What did you say? You want to head out?” Kayla asked, sitting lotus in front of the tv with her hair still dripping.

“Yep.” Was all I replied, walking out my room dressed in black with an empty backpack on.

I decided that going in the day time would indeed be suicidal no matter how much I thought about it. Going at nighttime would at least give me fifteen credits. Along the way I could kill some unexpecting zombies for more. Mhm, mhm. I’m not at all sad about losing the fifty credit side quest...

I grabbed onto my bat and stuffed some fruits inside the bag.

“What would ever possess you to do something so stupid? Going next door is one thing but crossing the street? Are you mad!” Kayla questioned angrily as I saw her nostrils flare up with the admittedly cute angry look.

Turning to pick more fruits, “There’s someone across the street with a gun. Maybe he has an extra for the both of us.” Is how I answered.

This necessarily wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the whole truth either. How could I tell her there’s a system giving me quests for credits like how a teacher gives gold stars? Even I’d make fun of myself!

I didn’t hear a reply so I casually glanced backwards and saw that her hand was to her chin while she rested her elbow on her other arm.

Ahh, she has her thinking face on. This isn’t a dating visual novel!

She then looked me straight in the eye while parting her lips.

“Alright.” She said in a serious tone.

Alright?

She then stood up and headed towards the door. To my shock she started moving the furniture away from the door!

“What are you doing!” I yelled in a whisper, not wanting the zombies to come slamming again.

“Coming with you. Now are you helping or not?” She asked as if it was a casual thing.

Is this girl mental?

I rushed over to help her carry the furniture so there wouldn’t be any screeching noise. When we got everything out the way we were both standing by the doorway.

“Are you really coming?”

“Yes.”

“These aren’t some robots you could control. These things could kill you.”

“I know.”

“And you’re still coming?”

“Of course.”

Heating that she was adamant about it, I couldn’t do anything but sigh inwards.

However, I suddenly felt a warm fuzzy feeling inside my chest. I guess this tech nerd can be sweet at times to actual humans.

I smiled to myself then prepared my mind.

I unlatched the door and peeked my head out.

No zombies were on our side of the hallway but instead on the hallway across from us. Did someone make noise? Someone try to leave, unexpected to all this zombie shit?

I gestured with a finger to my lips for her to be silent then slowly walked out. I closed the door gently without locking in and proceeded forward.

When I got to the middle of the floor I felt something amiss. When I turned to my side, Kayla wasn’t there! Where did this tech nerd go?

I turned around and to my shock I found that the tech nerd was trying to ditch me by going into her apartment.

What the hell!

Is this what you meant by ‘Alright!’

I am at a complete loss for words.

I stared at her blankly. Losing that warm feeling.

The demon incarnate then gestured towards me to come to her. At this point I was on my guard. Who knows if she is willing to sacrifice me to the zombies!

She opened the door silently and walked in with me following her…

All we did was switch apartment rooms…

“Is this what you meant by coming with?”

She then looked at me as if I was stupid.

“Don’t be stupid. I’m not actually going to follow you. I’m going to follow you with my drone.” She said in the same serious manner.

I couldn’t help but be dumbfounded.

Can’t women learn how to talk straight? What is with all this confusion!
