The kid stared blankly at the teen before she slowly nodded her head in response to his question and stood up with help from the teen.
"I-I am Zorita... hank you," Zorita mumbled nervously as her face turned red from her stuttering.
"Zorita, huh? Well, since you graced us with your name, you can call us Zaelmavett; although Zael will be just fine," Zael stated as he placed an arm in front and behind him as he bowed to Zorita. Zorita sporadically flailed her hands at Zael while pleading with him to stop bowing. Zael itched the back of his ear and mentally snickered at Zorita's response.
"It's just a greeting there's no need to get so worked up...," Zael remarked as he closed his eyes. Zael reopened his eyes to see Zorita standing by his right side and staring at his golden Key of Heaven with sparkles in her eyes. Zael amusedly exhaled from his nose as he lifted the scarf-like hood fur extension with the golden Key of Heaven on it to Zorita.
"Pretty snazzy, right?" Zael said pridefully. Zorita nodded, and Zael lowered the golden key into Zorita's raised palms. Zorita felt her eyes glisten as she gleefully inspected Zael's golden key.
"I've never seen a gold key like this before...," Zorita muttered aloud as she let go of the golden key.
"Well, they are rarer than rare after all," Zael remarked with a grin on his face. Zael glanced at the bronze Key of Heaven on Zorita's bronze necklace and noticed it had a witch-hat-shaped handle and a white heart-shaped crystal in it.
"Mind if we take a look?" Zael asked as he pointed to the bronze key.
"Umm... okie," Zorita said shyly as she raised the bronze key to Zael's eye level. Zael inspected Zorita's bronze Key of Heaven and smirked at seeing the three glowing pink rings on the key's stem.
"A grade three, Key of Heaven: Frostbite Witch. Not bad; we especially like that it's a part of the heart set," Zael remarked as he rose to his feet.
"Thanks..., Mr Zael.". Zorita pushed herself to her feet and flattened out her scuffed-up dress.
"With that grade, you'd have been able to beat that chaos hymnverant with one well-placed attack given it was on its last leg," Zael mentioned. Zorita's eyes lit up, and she oohed at Zael's words.
"Really?" Zorita asked with glee.
"Really.".
The black heart-shaped crystal on Zael's dark silver Key of Heaven flicked to life for a split second. Zael smirked before he used a single arm to scoop up Zorita, causing her to make a funny eep noise. Zael bent his knees and leapt off the ground like a spring before a black energy sphere blasted the ground below him and fractured the street it struck. Zael went over and landed on top of a street lamp with rhombohedron(3D rhombus)-shaped light as Zorita tightly clung to Zael's arm.
"Still in one piece?" Zael asked. Zorita frantically nodded as Zael positioned her on his arm as if she were a baby.
"Good to hear," Zael said as a chao hymnverant leopard double the size of the previous one crashed onto the ground and cracked the road beneath its feet.
"A grade five, huh? They must have been the one to batter the other hymnverant into such a brittle state," Zael mentioned. he raised his free hand, but before he could do anything a torrent of bullets made of light hymn energy erupted from nearby. The storm of hymn bullets forced the leopard into a defensive manoeuvre by surrounding itself in a tornado-looking wall of black hymn energy. Zorita watched the torrent of white hymn energy bullets fly through the air, bursting into particles as they struck the black hymn energy wall.
"So you think we should assist the police or not?" Zael remarked to himself as he placed a hand on his chin.
Stolen novel; please report.
"What do you mean... by we?" Zorita asked worriedly.
"Our apologies; we were just talking to ourselves," Zael stated.
"Oh.". A loud thud followed by a bubbly pop caught the duo's attention. The duo watched the pond of rainbow-coloured hymn energy bubbles spiralling around the spot where the leopard previously existed. Zael disappointedly placed a hand on his chin and balanced atop the street lamp on a single foot.
"Officers secure the perimeter and locate the riff," the police chief ordered as he and his officers lowered their rifles. The black-uniformed police with diamond (like on playing cards) iconography all over their uniform opened up the top of their rifles before taking out the featureless grade six bronze Keys of Heaven with white diamond-shaped crystals on their handles from the rifles. The officers held out their Keys of Heaven to the hymn energy bubbles. The bubbles swerved towards the keys and were absorbed into the crystals.
"And here we were hoping to see if Zorita's Key of Heaven would rank up if it absorbed all that hymn... for shame," Zael murmured as he watched the police officers and paramedics (whose uniforms also have diamond iconography) deal with the restless returning pubic.
"Heh?" Zorita uttered perplexedly as she gave Zael a worried stare.
"Are you two alright?" the police chief asked as he walked to the street lamp Zael and Zorita were on.
"Just peachy," Zael said with a slightly crooked smirk while hopping down to the ground.
"That's good to hear. Say, did you happen to see the other reported chaos hymnverant and the riff they came from?" the police chief asked.
"For the other hymnverant, they were beaten to a pulp by the hymnverant you dealt with. As for the riff, I happened to deal with it, so you don't need to worry," Zael answered. The chief was silent as an officer walked over to him and informed him there weren't any riffs in the area.
"Well, that certainly saves me a lot of paperwork, but would you be willing to give me a statement?" the police chief requested.
"Certainly.".
After Zael gave his statement, the police chief thanked Zael for his time. As the guy turned to leave, he choked on his breath, causing Zorita to flinch.
"Is something wrong, Mr Officer?" Zorita asked as Zael continued to hold her in his left arm. The police chief dismissively shook his head and straightened his hat.
"No, your friend here's accessories gave me a heart attack is all," the police chief stated. The police chief bidded the two a good day before he walked back to his police unit while muttering about how much of a global panic there would be if some random teenager was in possession of two real sovereign class Keys of Heaven. Zorita waved to the police officer before Zael slapped his forehead.
"We should've got directions off him," Zael muttered.
"Directions?".
"Yeah, to the Zalkurophe Academy place.". Zorita thought about it before she reached into the crystal on her Key of Heaven and pulled out a touchscreen phone. Zorita tapped her phone's screen a few times before she nodded her head.
"This place?" Zorita asked as she showed the map location on her phone to Zael, making Zael lean his head closer to see the map's contents. As Zael stared at the phone, Zorita glanced over at Zael instinctively from how close he was to her and saw the extremely faint concentric rings on Zael's scleras (golden on his right eye and silver on his left eye).
"Alright, we think we know how to get to the academy from Diamoncrade," Zael remarked, causing Zorita to dart her head away from him from how loud his voice was given the lack of distance from her ears and Zael's mouth.
"So, Zorita, do you want us to take you home or....". Zael paused when he noticed Zorita fidget with her Key of Heaven the second he mentioned the word home. Zael was left a little speechless and rubbed the back of his head before he regained his composure and patted Zorita on the head.
"Whatever your reason for lacking a home is: from abandonment, fleeing or unfortunate loss of family. We'll assist you however we can in whatever you decide on," Zael said reassuringly. Zorita slowed her key-fidgeting as she remained silent.
"Why do you talk funny?" Zorita blurted out quietly. Zael amusedly huffed and shrugged.
"But... what I want to do is... stay with Zael, please," Zorita whispered.
"Because we treated you with more compassion in the few minutes we've known each other than your family has in your whole life?". Zorita meekly nodded in response.
"Aside from cousin Marichia, they were all... meanies," Zorita grumbled.
"We see. Well we, as in both of us, best get a move on to that academy place shan't we?" Zael remarked. Zorita nodded as she rubbed her eyes. Zael began walking while asking Zorita if she'd mind him using her Key of Heaven with the promise of teaching her how to use it on her own in return.
