After Vilkar finished putting Touch of Midas on his gold he had nothing else to do. He was also exhausted from putting a curse on the gold so he ordered food delivery.
After fifteen minutes pass he heard knocking on his door. When he opened then he saw a man holding a black bag with the logo of a food delivery service.
'This is actually a good opportunity to see if the curse will brake if gold is given willingly.
"Good day, it will be 8 malks." Malks were currently used in Malka city-state after dungeons started to open. When the world become full of monsters any centralized currency became lost its value as food, water, and shelter were only important commodities for people.
But after humanity had time to adapt new currencies were created, some followed old ones but most were made new. Mostly they worked only in their own cities and gold coins were used for trade amongst them.
While humanity is once again spreading its influence and reclaiming more territory gold coins are gaining in value and becoming the norm. Of course, some politicians did not like it as it undermined their treasuries and power. No one was able to receive those gold coins, so the only one way to get them was to explore dungeons.
That meant no state or political side could just print more for themselves, and anyone could get more if they would be able to explore the dungeon.
Once they realized what was happening, Malka's higher echelon tried to block the entrance to the dungeon but it was already too late, and new factions had already become too strong to fight and too rich to bribe.
And so those that were fastest could still exchange their money for gold somewhat reasonably rest took a great hit to their finances. As of now, one gold coin was worth ten malks. Vilkar wasn't sure how much malks would be relative to money from before dungeons.
"Here take this," Vilkar spoke as he gave the man one gold coin.
"Thank you, sir." The man spoke and gave Vilkar his food, then he turned around and started to leave.
Vilkar watched his every step looking for any signs of a curse taking effect, and to knowledge, nothing happened. He saw no sign of golden petrification or saw any strong magical movements in or around of the delivery man.
"Good, then the curse works as intended" Vilkar whispered and closed the door.
After he ate he rested for the rest of the day. He had nothing more that he needed to do at this time. Tomorrow he would visit Merchant Circle to apply for a Trading company license, "I hope that there will be no problem, I did order a magical tent to serve as my shop. I don't know about any rule that would state that I could not use such premises, only that I already need to have them or have ordered them to be built in a reasonable amount of time.
"So they should have no problem with giving me the license and place to set up my shop. I just hope its location wont be too far away from the entrance. That could bring slower business to my shop and hinder the spreading of information to others. Once my shop will get famous for selling enchanted weapons and armor there should be no lack of customers."
Vilkar went to sleep early that morning as he wanted to visit Merchant Circle as soon as possible. After getting his tent he would explore the second layer of the dungeon.
The next day Vilkar stood outside his home, considering his options. He needed to go to the Merchant Circle building, but he wasn't sure how to get there. He could take public transport, but it would cost him a few coins, and he was trying to save money. On the other hand, he could walk, which would be free but time-consuming.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
He looked up at the sky, judging the weather. It was a clear day, with a gentle breeze blowing. He could feel the sun's warmth on his skin, and he decided that a walk would be pleasant.
He checked the map on his phone to make sure he knew the way. It was a little further than he thought, but he was confident he could get there on foot.
As he began to walk, he took in his surroundings. He passed by a park where children were playing, and he could hear their laughter and shouts. He walked by a group of people selling goods on the street, their voices blending together as they shouted out their wares.
He kept walking, and the cityscape began to change. The buildings grew taller, and the streets became more crowded. He had to weave in and out of people, and he had to be careful not to bump into anyone.
While he walked he took a few shortcuts by walking through narrow alleys and a few sketchy neighborhoods, "Well when I think about it... It may have not been the smartest idea, especially considering what I'm wearing. Golden suit with gold glasses..."
Vilkar chuckled as he saw two men jumping at him. One from each side, "Well hello there my friends. It seems that you got lost I could..." Vilkar did not listen to what the man had to say as it would be the usual, pay up and nothing happens to you.
"Aha!" Vilkar got an idea, "You know what gentlemen? YOU pay me! And I will let you leave alive and maybe just maybe unhurt." Vilkar said in a casual tone as he did not mean it as a threat but as a statement. Vilkar actually abhorred threats especially when they were directed at him. When he heard them he was filled with an unpleasant feeling of having insects running under his skin. It stopped only when he did something unkind to the people that threatened him.
"What?" Those two men became perplexed at the same time as they did not expect this kind of reaction.
Vilkar shifted his eyes between them waiting for his compensation, "Nothing? Then how it goes..." Vilkar then punched the man before him with his full strength. He could hear the sickening sound of breaking bone and shattered teeth.
When one of the men had fallen on the ground Vilkar turned around at the other one.
After seeing his fellow robber being knocked out with one punch he got scared as he wasn't awakened, his friend was and he was supposed to be as strong as five people. He wanted nothing more than to run away but when he saw there would be a victim took off his glasses and looked in his direction his knees gave out at the sight of the glowing eyes that he saw.
When Vilkar saw the man fall on his knees from fright he became satisfied with himself, 'Those eyes are really something. I just channeled some magic into them and he is already too scared. I didn't even use any fear spell as I don't know any.' Vilkar thought as he smiled widely showing his mouth full of jagged teeth and forked tongue.
"D-Demon!" The man yelled as he started to drag himself away from Vilkar.
'I just hope no one will come running here, I would have a hard time explaining what had happened before they would attack me or call the police. At the end of the day, I would be free and anything against me would be dropped but my visit to the Merchant Circle would be postponed.
'There are too many things that I plan to do to wait in a police station for them to deal with this situation.'
"Now... You were naughty boy weren't you?" Vilkar said chuckling which scared the man even more.
"And you need to be punished for it... in the most brutal and painful of ways
"Or..." Vilkar stopped for a dramatic pause, he saw a man's eyes sparkling with the hope of being let go. Church used to offer them so I see no problem in doing the same as I'm the one that will hurt you otherwise.
"You could pay for Indulgence a ticket to remission of one's punishments for their sins. So what it will be, Pain and Agony or Indulgence?" After Vilkar finished speaking he could see how the man still shake from fear but he was already going through his pockets taking out all of his money.
"I-Is t-this enough?" He said as he took out two 50 malks and one ten malks banknote.
"... Unfortunately no." Vilkar said in a mocking tone, "But maybe your associate will have enough." When he pointed at the man that was laying on the ground with his teeth broken one on the ground jumped at him and went through his pockets.
"And this?" He took out another hundred and sixte malks.
"This will be enough... this time," Vilkar said as he took the money and walked away.
After he took a few steps he could see how the robber stood up and run in the opposite direction.
"Haha, what an interesting turn of events." Vilkar laughed while he walked in direction of Merchant Circle.
The rest of the way was uneventful and so he made it relatively soon.
