Chapter 1 New death

Chapter 1 New death

“Damn you! How dare you cause me such a misfortune! ….!” An enraged guttural voice of a man boomed in the air.

Thump! Thump!

He kicked at something, or rather someone who was lying on the ground – a disoriented little boy whose face was badly bruised and bleeding. His arms were bent and fingers weirdly stretched out in front of him which showcased involuntary contraction of his muscles – a sign he had taken a serious injury to his spinal cord.

Foam was forming in his mouth as inaudible sounds tried to escape. Looking at his poor state, anyone could tell the boy was only seconds away from death. Regardless, the man kept on hitting him like he was some kind of plastic bag.

The scene was a painful one to watch. One would wonder which kind of animal would treat a kid in this manner.

“HYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArggggg!” a frustrated and enraged female scream came from the side. It belonged to a woman who was currently pulling her hair hard in a bid to vent. Seeing that it wasn’t enough, she scurried to boy lying on the ground, her face contorted with such primal anger and hatred, all directed to the dying boy. Raising her foot, she placed her dirty boot on the boy’s neck and pressed down with all her might!

“Why did I ever give birth to such nuisance such as yourself?! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! Why don’t you just DIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Snap!

The boy’s hands relaxed in an instant and fell as his eyes rolled to the back of his head, marking the end of his life.

Seeming to have come to her senses, her expression changed to one of worry as she stared into the boy’s lifeless rolled eyes.

“What have we done?! We are going to get into trouble, what shall we do?”

The man beside her spat on the boy’s body and wiped some stains of blood on his face, “Its simple, we shall bury him somewhere and finally close this chapter of a disabled son in our lives………..We can file for him to be missing afterwards. No one will ever know……..I’m sure the family will be glad he went missing and won’t even bother looking,”

“Yeah, you’re right!” The woman’s expression relaxed as a slight smile rose on her lips. She embraced the man for some time before saying, “Honey, Let’s make another child. One that will bring glory to our name. We can’t be laughing stalks in the family forever. Let’s make a child that will make us stand tall over everyone in the family…………..”

The man didn’t hold the woman as his mind was elsewhere, his face gloomy, ‘If you give birth to another disabled child you wench, I’ll kill you myself,’ he thought. However he still replied with, “sure,” and hugged the woman back.

At the same time, in the same place, a boy with dirty blonde hair could be seen watching the couple. Apart from the dead body lying on the ground, there was an identical version of it currently standing a short distance from the body. He had the same dirty blond hair and outfit, the only difference being that he didn’t have any bruises on him. His skin was as smooth and perfect as jade. From his posture, one could deduce the boy was disabled – his head was tilted to one side, his lips rigid, apart and tilted, exposing his bottom teeth, one of his shoulders was raised to touch his tilted head, while the arm was resting in a weird position in front of his stomach. His innocent face was expressionless as he heard everything that was exchanged between the two people who seemed to be oblivious of his existence.

A silent tear rolled down one eye, falling off the side of his cheek.

He stared at the dead body before his feet and back at the couple who were embracing each other as tears continuously wailed up in his eyes.

“Hu huh u,” the pain within him was unbearable. A painful lump had developed in his throat which probed him to sob uncontrollably. His cries were muffled, an indication that he was dumb.

The couple that beat him to death were none other than his birth parents, but the way they were talking about him with no remorse whatsoever hacked at his heart. However young he still was, he knew that the way he was treated wasn’t how other parents treated their children. Why couldn’t his parents take him to the playground to play like other parents did their children? Why couldn’t his parents embrace him with love like others did to their children?

Why did they have to keep him locked in the basement all day and rain beatings on him every single time? Was he that much of monster to them?

It wasn’t his fault he was created like this! He didn’t choose to become disabled! He wished the world could understand that! All his family, whether it was his grandfather, uncles, aunts, cousins, and parents, they all treated him like an animal that deserved to be caged.

Although his life was extremely short, it was one, safe to say, was filled with immense pain and agony.

“What do I do now? Where do I go?” the boy bitterly turned around to face the door, the stream of tears on his face unceasing.

“Kendrick………” a whispering voice brushed his ears prompting him to stop and look around. But aside from his parents and his dead body, there was no one else in the room. And that voice didn’t sound like any of his parents.

“Kendrick………….” It whispered again, startling him as it seemed to have changed direction. Turning around to where he thought the voice was coming from, he still couldn’t see anything.

“WH------d –sd----sd- g-hu-hudu” he tried to ask who’s there? But unintelligible sounds came out of his mouth. His tears had stopped flowing as his heart began to race. He could feel chills run down his spine. He could feel a presence in the room but couldn’t tell where it was. It was a dangerous presence that made him want to run away on instinct!

“KENDRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” The voice whispered again, but this time it was several times louder, coming from behind him. Kendrick was now scared as he turned frantically to the source only to see no one.

“KENDRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“KENDRICK!!!!!!!!!”

KEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!”

Swoosh!!!

A flurry of wind suddenly blew through the open doors and windows, putting out all the lit candles and torches, plunging the room into a pitch black darkness.

“Honey, I forgot to lock the windows, wait here, I’ll get some new flames,” The man said as he tried to navigate through the darkness and head outside the room.

“okay”

In the pitch black world, Kendrick could finally see some light. It looked like a white orb that was being carried in someone’s hand and that person was approaching him in slow steps.

He couldn’t see the person’s face, only his fingers that were holding the orb and his dark robes that swayed with his movements.

Without a doubt, Kendrick was sure that this new arrival was the source of the voice that infiltrated his hearing earlier. However, he didn’t feel any intimidation from his arrival, rather he felt light hearted and at peace.

“Kendrick Jason! You are the one I have chosen! When the time is right and you are of age, my position you shall take and become the one they call death! 16 shall be the age the world will see a new death!”

Kendrick didn’t even have the time to process what was happening before the hand holding the orb pushed the orb into his chest, hence eliminating the last source of light in the dark space……………..

Just as the orb absorbed into his chest, Kendrick lost consciousness and whatever happened after that, he didn’t know.

Soon, light from a flame appeared in the room as Kendrick’s father returned with a torch in hand. He proceeded to relight the torches and candles that had gone off and the room was fully lit again. He placed the new torch in the wall and dusted his hands as he turned around.

“Now to bury that body……” The words halted in his throat when he saw that there was no dead body in the room anymore.

His brows furrowed tensely as he stared at his wife with a deeply confused expression.

“Honey, where’s that boy’s body?” he questioned.

Kendrick’s mother turned her gaze towards her husband with a scared expression, her breathing was rugged and hurried like her diaphragm was failing; “I….d-d-don’t know!”
