Kassy the Witch
A stroke of luck

A stroke of luck

Kassy hums to herself as she paints on her canvas. An array of colored paints scattered around the floor and shelves. She looks out the window, where one of the many dream catchers flutters in the wind. Then she goes back to painting, adding some reds and oranges.

A jackalope Hops over to her, and sits on a stool near her.

"Hi Rosemary, what do you think? Should it be more red, or yellow?"

The Jackalope Sniffs at a pink paint, and Kassy gasps, "Good thinking! Adding some pink could really make it pop."

She picks up the paint, and using feather light touches, she adds it to the canvas. When she was done she smiled and admired her art. It was a beautiful Phoenix. With feathers of flame as it flew over the trees. It would take a while to dry, so she got up to stretch, then held her arms open for Rosemary to jump into.

"Let's get some breakfast, I've been painting all morning. And probably afternoon too."

She holds the jackalope in her arms as she enters a larger. Area of the house, her siblings were yelling in the kitchen, "I know you took my snakes! You always say you're gonna use them in one of your potions!"

"As a joke! Obviously! I hate your snakes, I wouldn't even go near them let alone touch them!"

Their mom entered the kitchen, "Enough yelling! Fawn, I'll get you another snake. Your brother's racoon ate it last night."

"HE WHAT!?"

"That's what you get for not securing his cage."

Fawn grumbles, and huffs. Going up to her room. Their mother shakes her head, "That's what happens when you don't take care of your familiar. She smiles and gently scratches under the beak of her owl.

Kassy grabs a pre-made sandwich from the icebox, and shares a tomato with Rosemary. Her mother saw them and smiled, "What did you paint this time,  Kass?"

"A phoenix, when it dries I was gonna sell it."

"You sell all of your paintings, why not keep one and I can hang it up?"

"Henry's cat likes to rip them up if I try to hang them." Kassy responds with a mouth full of bread.

Her mother sighs, "Well I'd still like to keep at least one. You're so talented."

Kassy smiles when her mom pats her head. Then finishes her sandwich. When she got up, she put her dishes in the sink for the water sprite to clean.

Heading back to her studio, she casts a spell on her painting to make it dry faster, and never get ruined from rain. Smiling, she signs it, then picks it up, along with a couple other paintings she had made this week, and headed outside to display them to be sold.

Grabbing a paper she write down the price, and stuck them to the sides of each of the paintings. Her first customer was her neighbor, Lucy. She always loved Kassy's paintings, "I'll take the cute little dog painting. It looks like my dog."

"Of course! That will be, 5 silver."

She handed Kassy the money then took the painting. Kassy smiles. "Enjoy!"

When she turned her head back, she took a step back in shock. In front of her was a boy about her age, wearing weird goggles 9n his head, brown clothing, and on his back were three very odd looking mechanical arms. He had a very cheery voice, "Good day miss! I was interested in purchasing that there painting of a dragon. It's very detailed, have you seen a dragon before?"

"No, I haven't. But I've heard enough stories to know what they look like. And I also know they aren't as bad as everyone says they are. They just want to defend their nests."

He hands her 2 gold for the large painting, "I was told the same thing. There are so many stories of great evil dragons."

She takes the gold, then hands him the painting, "They're actually endangered now. All the stories made people want to hunt them more."

He takes the painting, and holds it carefully, "That's a shame. I really wanted to see one some day. I bet they look just as beautiful as the one in this painting."

"What's your name, strange lover of dragons?"

"Tyler, and you?"

"Kassy."

"Nice to meet you. And thanks for the painting."
