February 3rd 1931 at 10 am, just off the Napier coast on a large yacht in New Zealand.
“Out of the way” I yelled at the business attired woman as she walked past without even noticing me, as I was standing on a yacht out at sea with my camera set up to take photos of the local celebrities that I had been hired to do so. the business looking woman walked right past me and didn’t even flinch as I yelled at her. I quickly grabbed my camera and started walking frustrated towards her, as I was nearing her, a man notices that I’m walking towards her and quickly runs over to me, taps me on the shoulder and says in a calm voice “she wouldn’t have heard you”. I stop suddenly and look over to the man and notice he is the local mayor, I ask why she couldn’t hear me and he continues “that is Tracey and she is my wife of over five years and all the time I’ve known her to be deaf”. I quickly apologies and take my camera to another part of the yacht.
As I’m heading around the yacht, I suddenly start to feel the ground beneath me shake, I end up tripping and dropping my camera, I quickly pick it up just as the yacht shakes more causing me to slip and drop the camera overboard. I scream out “NO NO NOOO!!”, I look over the side and see that the camera is already gone into the sea. After looking over the edge for a couple of minutes in thought, I feel a tap on the shoulder, I turn around to see the local mayor again. I ask “What caused that shake?”, he tells me there have been reports of minor earthquakes on the Napier coastline.
A few minutes later after settling down from the loss of my camera, I look around to see Tracey talking to an older lady, I quickly notice that there is no one else around and Tracey is speaking clearly and hearing fine. I walk over to her and say “you’re not deaf”, she replies with “who are you and why do you think I’m deaf”, I explain that I had been speaking with her husband, The Mayor, and he had said after I screamed at you earlier for getting in the way of my photo shoot. As I start to walk away saying that I’m going to tell her husband the truth, I feel a pain in my arm and notice id been shot by a small silenced pistol that the older lady must’ve had hidden. as I fall to the ground I hear Tracey say “you didn’t have to shoot him”.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
I wake up on the ground of the yacht, to the sound of an alarm, I notice people running around and I feel the yacht sinking, I slowly stand up and as I do I check my arm which is still hurting but has stopped bleeding. As I get up, I see the mayor and his wife, I notice that she is still pretending to be deaf and then I realise at that quick moment that I had seen her face before, her hair was a different color but it was the same woman, I remember in an article in the newspaper I had read that this woman had been wanted for the murder of her husband around 10 years ago, and then I realise it said she was known for pretending to be deaf to get her trick her husband so she could kill him when the time was right for his money.
As the yacht is sinking more, I quickly run over to the mayor and try to warn him just as the yacht finishes sinking and I realise it would be a better idea to escape and save myself. I jump overboard and swim to the coast which isn’t too far, I notice everyone else who was on board has safely made it to the coast, I look over to see the city is in ruins which must’ve meant there was a large earthquake.
2 weeks later, as I come out from a shop with a new camera, I see a newspaper with an article that says “in memory of those lost in the Napier Earthquake”, I grab one of the newspapers and read on where it says that one dead from a yacht, which must be the yacht I was on, I check to see who it was and as I read on to see it was Tracey, I Instantly think one single word, “Karma”
