Amazon Announcement

The Legend of Kairos is moving on to new horizons; soaring all the way to Amazon!

Hi guys, as you probably know by now, Kairos is going to Kindle Unlimited and Audible in partnership with Aethon Books; with the planned release date of April 12th.

Much like how Kairos rose from humble beginnings to [Hero], the book has improved through editing rounds. The audible narration will be done by Eric Michael Summerer, the man who narrated The Perfect Run in the past; and did a fantastic job with it. I would lie if I said I wasn't very excited about it.

However, a downside of KU is the exclusivity clause. I can only leave 10 percent of the first volume freely available. As such, I will be removing most of the first volume's chapters on both Royal Road and Patreon March 29th and leave only the starting one. This only applies to the first volume, mind you; chapters post-41 will remain available for now. Patrons can download a PDF version before that date.

Now, I understand some of you have a deep dislike for Kindle Unlimited and made it known, so I will give you a bit more insight into this decision.

For the last few years Patreon in particular has been a main method of supporting myself economically. I've enjoyed good support with my major stories and many fans supported me on the platform. For that I will always be thankful.

But my problem is that I finish my stories.

When they are done, I can only receive an income from them through ebook sales as most patrons support a story and then move on. The end of Vainqueur the Dragon and The Perfect Run in particular led to wide fluctuations. Normal, non-exclusive Kindle ebooks and other royalties allowed me to offset these fluctuations...

But then I started suffering from piracy in 2021, with pirate websites taking my stuff away or scrapping Patreon. I spent thousands of bucks with legal stuff to even make sure pirates couldn't prevent me from publishing my own stuff.

People saying piracy helps give you exposure or doesn't do harm lie; there is a tangible cost that authors have to pay on that front both in term of time and money. As the Michelin brothers said so eloquently, Man only respects what he pays for.

I have two options to continue supporting myself and keep most of stuff free:

a) I can stretch a mainstream story ad infinitum like the Simpsons to pay the bills with Patreon;

b) or I can try to ensure a passive stream of income to offset the problems mentioned above.

And in the end, KU simply offers too good of a deal to pass. Based on some authors I discussed with, it brings often more than three times the revenues of a non-exclusive Kindle deal. It also often brings new audience to the Patron.

I remain committed to keeping most of my current stories free to read. Things like The Perfect Run, Vainqueur the Dragon and Never Die Twice won't go to KU.

But to keep things that way, Kairos must venture into the Amazon jungle.

Otherwise, beside the takedown of the early chapters little will change. I will continue updating Kairos as I have done until its conclusion around chapter 120 or so.

In any case, I wish to thank you again for your support and I hope you'll enjoy reading Kairos to the end of his journey.

Best regards,

Voidy.
