“Will he come?”
“Yeah let’s just wait.”
“Right on time, see I told you so.”
“Okay everybody get ready.” A sense of urgency came to everyone as they went to their places.
~~~
It was a busy day at the elderly home; they decided to surprise a young friend after he got out of the hospital. The residents wanted to do something but not every one of them is fit to do so making the helpers do a lot of work. The women were busy cooking and smelling the aroma of cooked food just made everyone hungrier. Some of the residents were drinking coffee talking about the old times waiting patiently for the visitor to come. Banners were hanged in the wall, cakes, pastries and sweets were placed on the table and some of the helpers can’t wait any longer, one of the new ones tried to take a slice of cake but his attempt was a failure because Mrs. Rose the head nurse caught him in the act and scolded him. Everything was ready and all that’s left is for the visitor to come.
It seems strange Dawn thought its unusually quiet because ever since he started visiting Granny at the elderly home he always see’s the some residents at the veranda or Mr. Bruce trying to take a smoke but always fails in his attempt cause of Mrs. Rose. Mr. Bruce should be trimming the trees or watering the plants usually this time so it seems strange that no one is there. Maybe somebody died again he thought, sadness overtook what his feeling earlier, and he stopped and pondered for a bit he readied himself for the news, after a few minutes he continued to walk getting near at the door he mustered his courage and pushed.
One, two, three..
SURPRISE!!!!
It took him a few seconds to realize what was going on. He looked around and saw banners with ‘’Congratulations in your fast Recovery ‘’in it one of them has “Its Good your not DEAD” in it. The table was full of things to eat; the scent. He saw them all dressed and with big smiles on their faces. The veterans were in their uniforms and on salute, the others wore costumes. It was quite a sight and what made him even happier was the thought that they all made their best just for him.
“You didn’t have to”. A blushing Dawn trying to hide his face answered.
Laughter broke in the room.
“You can cry” joked one of the veterans with a big smile on his face.
Now let us all go to the dining area and eat says one of the nurses. ”At last” whispered Mr. Bruce.
Dawn walked towards Granny and hugged her. “I’m back Granny”.
“Welcome back”
Everyone in the elderly home treated Dawn like a grandchild, they talked to him, told him stories, what the veterans liked about him was he listened as they talked about wars way back, Dawn liked being around them that’s why he visited them often, Dawn learns a lot about many things from them as they say “Wisdom comes with age”. He valued them like real grandparents.
Since he met Granny he continually asked to teach him about her secrets, especially how can she tell his there. At first, he couldn’t do it so well he had to lose his eyes for him to see clearly *the irony right, his gonna lose his eyes haha* Granny said he relies too much on his eyes and that it takes time to learn how to use your other senses well. Also the training he received from the veterans was hellish, just thinking about it makes him want to puke, but the effects were awesome, he was toned to perfection, by undergoing training from the elders in the home he was made to what he is today.
………………….
“Hey should we tell Dawn to play with us?” a lovely petite girl asked her friends “We could not see him recently, it would be best to see him online instead right?”
“Yeah since we just started a month ago it would be great if we could have him in our party right Ringo?” looking at the priestess as he sharpens his broad sword.
“I do so too but don’t you think it would be kinda hard for him seeing as he just transferred schools and all and his injuries also” but deep in her heart she wants to see Dawn everyday and visiting him in weekends is not enough “Lets visit him next Saturday and talk to him about it”. “Alright hunting time since we had our break lets go hunt some more, oh and bring some snacks okay Tamara” the broad sword wielder says to his friend not realizing that he used her true name.
Too late Rence thought as he knelt on the ground from being hit by TamTam, trying to get up he saw a Band of Goblins coming their way.
“The heck not now..”
“Get up your ass” the steamy red haired girl with knuckles in her hands said to the fallen comrade.
“Never forget to call me my in-game name Rence” as she formed a stance getting ready for battle.
“I’ll cover you guys from here” the healer said.
Saturday the fated day the friends decided to meet up at Dawns to invite him to play, with a bag of food in both hands Terrence was complaining to them for not helping him.
“You’re the one who wanted snacks in the first place Terence so man up and hold them till we get there”.
“Is it okay for you to bring this many Tam?” Apple amazed at the size of the bags.
“My mom gave them when she found out that I was going to Dawn’s she got up the counter and bagged snacks saying give them to Dawn”.
“Your mom really like Dawn doesn’t she? but me nope just the first sight of me makes her go into ‘Rage Mode’. What does she see in Dawn that I don’t have?” added Terence sweating like he ran a 5 kilometer race.
“Don’t answer that” he quickly muttered.
“Good to know you know your difference with Dawn” both of the girls laughed.
5 minutes later..
“Aunty were here, sorry to bother you once again… is Dawn in his room?”
“We brought snacks Aunty” joyfully Terrence dropped the bags near the table.
“Sorry for the trouble ma’am” Tam making a polite gesture as they went in.
“No worries kids, I’m going to cook some pastries come get them after 30 minutes okay?”
“Yes Aunty” Terrence said as they went upstairs to Dawns room.
“Clean as usual” the annoyed Terrence as he saw how neat Dawns room is. “Are you gay dude? Your rooms like a females..”
“Don’t make me hit you idiot you’re not like Dawn” countered Tam as she made a fist and showing it to Terence.
“Jolly as usual guys”
“Never mind him Dawn, so we’re here to talk” laying down some coke in the mini table having a serious face. “What is it Apple?”
“Have you heard of this VRMMORPG game called Royal Road?”
“Who haven’t it’s flashed in the television, it’s the hottest things today isn't it?”
“We have just started a month ago and we think you should play with us also, so we came to ask you today”
“I see let me think about it guys.”
They took their time persuading him, Terrence telling him about cute girls and stuff and about adventures; they tried but to no avail Dawn still said he’ll think about it. That afternoon was full of laughter and Terrence telling Dawn how cool he is in-game.
It never came to Dawn to play online games again since he last played Ragnarok III, he had fun playing with his friends and all but now it’s a different situation. Now that there’s a chance he will get blind he needs to make the right decisions to make, this all together made it harder for Dawn to think of playing. He had many things in mind and he needed some advice “Granny” he said out loud.
On the way home he didn’t expect Granny to say yes, he thought she would be against it but instead all at the elderly home said yes. They said it would be like training what made him say ok was his hearing that you can earn money there by selling items and such this was the final straw for him and he decided to play. Research is needed he said in his mind. After a few weeks of classes about Royal Road from his friends and researching he thought of getting his own capsule now and starts playing.
The next morning a door bell woke up Dawn; as he went downstairs to open it he was surprised to see a truck and some men unloading what seems to be a big capsule in front of their house.
“Sir, Are you Mister Dawn Roxas?” a tall bulky man asked.
“Yes sir I am, what seems to be the problem?”
“Sign here” and he hands out a paper and a pen.
“Courtesy of the old folks in the elderly home”
“They didnt” uttered Dawn.
As they set up the Capsule in Dawns room it took for about 30 minutes for the installations to be done and now starts his journey and he called to thank the elders and to visit next weekend.
