" I'm pretty sure you will love High town, everyone is nice here, and since your mum and I divorced, you really haven't spent much time with me," My dad said after seeing the expression on my face.
My dad and mum had been divorced for about a year now and as much as I hated the idea it was probably for the best. I guess it was alright that they remained friends but dad moved to the countryside and I stayed in the city with my mum. It was the summer break and dad decided to have me visit him and it's not like I didn't want to stay with him, I just thought the countryside would be very boring. I mean what even happens there.
" As long as there is wi-fi and food, I'm just going to stay in the house, don't worry about me," I said and I could tell he still wasn't happy.
" You should try to know some people from here, you know make some friends," he responded.
" No thenks, I'm good and I really don't think I would have anything common with people from around here. I'll be in my room if you need me," I said walking up to my room.
To be honest it wasn't like I was an anti social person, back at home you could always find me among the people, but here I didn't feel like I fit in, maybe to them I was just a city rich girl whose mother was running for governor. They would probably not like me.
The first few days I spent my room but that changed when one night I heard some noises outside of the house and I decided to check it out and ended up finding two girls.
" What are you two doing outside of my house at midnight," I ask curiously.
" Ooh hi, you must be Mr Harris daughter, nice to meet you," one of them introduced.
" That does not answer what you're doing at my house at this time of the night," I replied and I could feel my anger start to boil up.
" It's nothing we just kind of saw a bright light coming from around here," they replied but just as I was about to replay we heard some people talking and we decided to hide but it turned out to be two random boys who were about our age.

Henry, Tun? What are you two doing here, did you follow us?,"
" Don't be too full of yourself Jenny, who would want to follow you," they replied but now I was really curious.
" So what's really going on here, you know I can charge you for trespassing," I said but then I saw a bright light coming from my dad's workshop, it didn't feel ordinary like light from electricity.
" Told you there was a light,"
" Let's check it out," one of the boys suggested.
" Ooh hell no, I'm the only black person in this group, I'm definitely not going to get into a glowing house, but y'all are free to do so, I'm going back to bed," I said walking away but we suddenly heard a voice.
" It's your chance, you have been chosen," the voice kept on repeating.
" Ok this is way too creepy,"
" You girls are such chickens, Henry and I will check it out,"
I really didn't want to join them, mostly because in most movies I had watched, it's always the black kid who died first but for some reason the voice kept pulling us in, it felt so soothing and trusting,so we followed the voice into the house.
" Y'all are seeing a glowing white board and a creepy looking book right," I asked once when entered.
"This is way too awesome, what do you think it does," one of the boys asked.
" I don't think we should stay around and find out," I said but the curiosity of the boys didn't let them hear me.
" If y'all girls want to go back to your mummy, no one is stopping you but Henry and I, are going to find out what this is all about,"
" So annoying!" I said
" You'll get used to it, by the way I'm Jenny and that's Mira, the two annoying boys over there are Henry and Tun. So what's your name?" Jenny finally introduced.
" I'm Kathy, I wish I could say it's nice to meet you but y'all lead me to a glowing white board," I said and Jenny couldn't help but giggle.
The board seemed to stop glowing the closer we got until it finally stopped. Mira decided to find out about the book to see the connection between it and the board.
" It's kinda less awesome now it's stopped glowing, looks like an ordinary white board now," Tun said disappointed.
" Hey guys look what I found, the white board has been passed down for about a thousand years, the white board is a spell maker and only the chosen people can see it," Mira explained.
" And it's back to being awesome," Henry said giving a high five to Tun.
" The board and book have it's blessings and curses," Mira continued.
" That doesn't sound too good," Jenny said.
" Are we going to turn into frogs or something," Henry said.
" Guys there is a type of message here that I don't understand, ' finish your task of the day and there will be a reward, if not completed the curse you cannot avoid, twenty four hours given in a day and if all goes well everything you want will go your way', Mira said.
" I don't need to know what that meant, I was already out with the mention of curses, yeah I'm out lock up when you're done," I said but Mira stopped me.
Turns out that once choosen the curse of the day would still follow us until we completed the task given.
" Wait a minute, is this book employing us, so there is no way to escape this," I said.
" Guys I think this is going to be fan,Mira take the book home and find out everything, Kathy please help us hide the board, we can't be seen walking around carrying an invisible board, plus it was technically in your house," Jenny requested.
We slowly helped carry the board to my room and discussed that they would drop by my house to find out more about the board and book but as soon as we set it up the board started glowing again and there was a word written on it, ' CHILL'.
" And here I thought the country side was boring," I said as we all stared at the word on the board.
