The snow gently drifted down from outside my window, barely visible in the moonlight.
An ancient grandfather clock rang out into the night. My father always said it was priceless, I just thought the incessant tick and tock was morbid. In the way, it counted every second towards the inevitable end.
But I will admit it was somewhat soothing. It gave me something to believe in, just in the fact it survived centuries of wear and tear. Yet it is still ticking away indefinitely and probably for the years to come. But it didn't fill the void She left.
Then the tick and tock of the clock, that I've come to like, stopped.
All the creaks and groans, that this old house has earned for surviving this long. Also abruptly stopped.
There was no annoying screech when I got up from my bed, nor when I walked to the window and I was greeted with a peculiar sight.
The snow itself was frozen in place.
I couldn't believe it, I rushed downstairs.
Only slowing at the sight of the only new thing to this house. A picture frame that was laying on its face, perched on the windowsill. Its contents I couldn't bear to face right now. I didn't have the courage to look at Her. I don't think I'll ever be ready.

I quickly walked past, grabbed my bag, and let myself out.
The scene was even more amazing up close. Snow hanged still in the star-filled sky. Illuminated by the moon.
Only the thundering of my heart and the small puffs of my breath visible in the cold, told me I was alive.
I lived on a popular street so there were a few scattered people out and about, despite it being past midnight.
They looked funny frozen.
As I walked I couldn't hear the comforting crunch of snow underfoot, It was dead silent.
I unconsciously muttered "If only I could go back in time"
Then everything around me started to move again, only backward. It started slowly, the snow drifted up and the people around me inched back.
Then whatever was happening picked up, the people quickly moved at normal speed and started to move so fast I couldn't see them anymore.
With each passing second, it went even faster. before long I could see the buildings be deconstructed.
And I promptly blacked out.
