authors note: It finally happened

I'm going to start this out by saying that there have been many aspects of the system that I was never super happy with and I intended to eventually go back and change later if/ when I got published or if I hit a wall and would need to go back and change it to progress farther. I have now hit one of those walls.

I was never super happy with the companion system when I first wrote it. I messed around with many ways to change it, but never really found a way that I liked until now that is, but now that I have found how I want to do it going forward everything up to this point that I have written with Daniel and Kota splitting exp is now wrong and will need to be changed to go forward.

This is slightly upsetting to me since I was almost done writing my next chapter with Daniel meaning I would have both the John and Daniel chapter basically ready to be posted, but with many of the changes I will need to make this is probably no longer the case. this is of course not to say that I am unable to salvage the chapter for future use just that I am unsure where these changes will leave the story

With Daniel no longer receiving half exp he should probably also be in the advancement trials with Steve and John at this moment, and not doing what I thought he was which was fighting the tenth floor boss of the solo dungeon.

here is the rough version of the new beast / companion system. This may still be somewhat up to change so I would like some feed back on it to see if there is anything else that I might need to change that I have missed

Beast info stuff

beast advancement is completely different from sentient peoples' evolution. Making a beast companion contract is more of a symbiotic relationship where each side gains a boon without needing to give up something else.

Humans gain exp from slain monsters which level them up with their tier systems.

Beasts gain mana from slain monsters that allow them to evolve and grow stronger. They also gain this mana by eating slain monsters.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

In this relationship the person gains a strong companion that can be taken into dungeons and the like without penalty since the beast and the person count as a single entity. There are also reason not to have a beast companion, but I will not talk about that here like how most of the mana a beast gains from a kill is not the kill itself, but also eating the prey, so if our beast need to eat the monsters to grow stronger you can not harvest the monster for money, so in this way it is not profitable in some ways to keep a beast.

Evolution/ mutations is usually a wild thing and mindless beasts have no control over what kind of mutations they receive. By partnering with a sentient person these mutations can be directed to become more streamlined and a bonded beast in most cases will be significantly more powerful than some of their wild counterparts. This bond once made can be broken at any time if both parties agree. If a beast wishes to break the contract and the human does not then the magic that connect the pair will begin to fray and soon the magic will break on its own

Beasts grow in power more quickly than people in general since their advancement is based on the number of mutations they have gained, and most creatures already have to hunt to survive, so as a beast fights for everyday survival they will grow stronger.

Mutations gained are what determine stat gains. Gain an innate ability for stealth making all noise you make quieter +2 dex when picking/ gaining that evolution/ mutation.

Tier of monsters based on mutations.

Tier 1: 5 mutations to advance mutations give +5 attributes per mutation in a spread based on the mutation

Tier 2: 5 mutations or mutation evolutions to advance +10 attributes per mutation in a spread based on the mutation

Tier 3: 5 mutations or mutation evolutions to advance +15 attributes per mutation in a spread based on the mutation

Tier 4: 5 mutations or mutation evolutions to advance +20 attributes per mutation in a spread based on the mutation

Tier 5: 5 mutations or mutation evolutions to advance +25 attributes per mutation in a spread based on the mutation

Each tier a monster advances can slightly change their species. They might start as a bear at tier 1, basically an ordinary animal. When evolving at tier 2 they might become a stone bear. Tier 3 a steel armored bear. Tier 4 a armored bear behemoth. Tier 5 a steel spiked armored bear behemoth

Tier 6 is what is called the first wall for adventures. It is here when a beast evolves from tier 5 to 6 that the first major change takes place and the rough balance of power that has been relatively even for sentients and beasts change more in the beasts favor.
