Side Stories 1

It’s been about a week since the princess arrived here and things have been getting worse and worse. The talks with her are going nowhere. We thought since she was adopted into the royal family she was used as a pawn to be thrown away and we can just get her to agree to whatever we suggest but she doesn’t accept any of our proposals and the plans to capture and imprison her failed horribly.

When we sent a few soldiers to her room they got stopped by her guards and upon forcing our way in the whole group got overwhelmed just by a single person. The princesses' personal knights are even stronger than we initially thought. We were aware that they were the ones to capture our elite unit that infiltrated the kingdom in order to cause internal issues but since according to our intel it was by a surprise attack we didn’t think they would hold up without that advantage.

It would be one thing if that was all but the princess started to demand territory for the attack on her as well as the disrespect towards her and her knights, as well as important figures of the empire suddenly being killed off. It first started the day after the princess arrived so naturally we suspected her but we would know if she left the room to do anything and her guards deny her leaving the room as well. To be honest, even if she did leave her room during the times our officials got murdered we saw her not long after within a time that would make it impossible. We also suspected the guards and put them under surveillance as well but they won’t leave the princess’s side at all. I tried to tell the others that it doesn’t make sense to suspect the princess to begin with. She is too weak and has a useless Talent so there is no way she would be capable of killing officials of our empire who all possess strong or rare Talents. This war we are trying to start is really stupid to begin with.

The previous queen of the Gairyn Kingdom proved how prosperous the implemented changes are, still holding on to our values and trying to take them over can’t be the correct way forward. Those old farts should just agree to the princess’s demands and get this over with this whole situation. It feels like all of what’s happening is God's punishment for the things we have done. I wish I could change everything but the old don’t want to give up the values they had all their lives and the young don’t want to lose the power they are supposed to inherit.

The door to my office bursts open and a young man, my assistant, enters.

“Sir, another minister just got reported dead.”

I let out a deep sigh, “Let me guess, no witnesses or no signs of forced entry this time as well?”

“Actually there is an eyewitness description of the attacker.”

Is this finally a chance to stop all of this? “I take it you already have the description?”

Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.

“Yes, Sir. According to the eyewitness the attacker is an unknown person with white skin, white hair and red glowing eyes, wearing a black cloak and wielding a scythe.”

I look at him with disbelief. “Did you confirm the report?”

“Yes Sir, I can confirm them to be correct. I talked with the maid who saw it personally in order to confirm.”

There is a legend passed down among the commoners of the Gairyn Kingdom. It tells about an entity appearing when the people are in danger they wouldn’t be able to stop themselves. The legend describes the entity as having white skin, white hair, red eyes and using a scythe, just like the enemy we seem to be dealing with right now. Whoever it is it isn’t the princess though, while her skin is rather pale it isn’t white and her red hair can’t be mistaken for white and while I never got a closer look at her eye colour it isn’t red and definitely not glowing. If it is the monster of the legend it is kind of ironic because that would mean our invasion would most likely be successful.

In the end it doesn’t really matter, at this point it is only a matter of time before the commoners rebel and take over. I asked the emperor to increase the number of guards he has around him but he dismissed me. He thinks he is invincible because his Talent is Mighty.

The door to my office bursts open again and a soldier with a panicked expression enters hastily.

“Sir! We just got a report that his imperial highness the crown prince got murdered.”

I look at him shocked, “How did this happen?”

“The prince was in his study working on some documents while the guards waited outside. They entered after hearing a commotion from inside but it was already too late and the prince was already beheaded. They were able to confirm that the attacker is the same as in the previous report.”

Damn it, this only leaves the emperor and me. “Increase the guards around his Majesty. We can’t let him fall to the ene-”

Before I can finish the heads of my assistant and the guard land on the floor and before me stands the unknown entity. It is exactly as described, white skin, white hair, red glowing eyes, wearing a black cloak and wielding a large black scythe. Before I can think about how it got here an eerie voice calls out to me, “Stop this war. Free the people.”

So it really is about the war but why does it seem to be concerned about our citizens as well. I shake my head, “Even if I wanted to, I can't go against his Majesty’s words.”

“The Emperor dies tomorrow.”

I look at it in shock at this declaration. “Even so I can’t betray my country.”

“Shame.”

There was a flash where it disappeared and then everything went dark.
