Entry 2

Sapnier

One of the few spiritual being capable of interacting with the physical world. They are highly loyal to their family but almost never form large gatherings. They aren't common, but there's at least one in most cities. What makes them peculiar is that they can be either a symbiotic or parasitic race, depending on their personality, but they cannot live without a partner. Another thing is that unlike most specters, they can't change their form. A Sapnier always looks like a winged lizard.

Their need for a partner stems from the problem of reproduction. They are incapable of it. They can't even create more of themselves with magic like most specters! Instead, they split a chunk of them off and inject it into a willing host. This chunk fuzes with the host's soul and uses it to grow into an adult.

The "infant", for lack of a better word, develops an intimate bond with the host capable of sharing thoughts, memory, and even mana. This bond causes the infant to copy the host's memory, personality, and skills and use it as its own, an imperfect and fractured copy, yes, but a copy none the less. It takes a full decade for the infant to fully mature and "hatch", and during this time is when the bond forms and grows. The bond is only mature after the infant emerges from the host's soul. After hatching, the Sapnier will become a semi-physical being, having no resemblance at all to their parent sapnier.

Stolen novel; please report.

Sapnier are often called different things depending on region, and sometimes even differ in appearance, although only slightly. such as having no forearms, or having an elongated snake-like body. They have many colors and patterns, though yellow is surprisingly rare for the main color. Four to six limbs, including wings, clawed feet, lizard face and sometimes horns. There are a few wingless Sapnier too, but they are rare.

The Sapnier have no culture to speak of. The parent often leaves before the child is hatched, to stay near their partner. The bonds are recognized near everywhere to be the deepest known form of love, one that even mind and soul magic can't break. Partners are treated as one person for most official matters, as separating them can actually kill them.

Not much else is known about them, I've already researched them to a great extent, and there is nothing more I can add. Hopefully, someone else can find something more and add it to this journal that spans generations.
