Wooden house

Wooden house

The atmosphere of the village is so peaceful with the melodious sounds released by several birds perched under the tamarind tree that is so dense in the yard of Paijo's house, a 69-year-old old man who is sitting enjoying the slow blowing wind and the melodious sound of chirping birds above him.

He sat with his head up, looking at the branches of the tamarind tree that his father had planted in the past, still lush today. There were times when yellow leaves fell where he sat but that did not make him leave.

Several times the villagers who passed in front of his house greeted him. As an elder or one of the most respected people in the village, it was natural for other villagers to greet him even on the way.

"Sir, let's eat first." Said an old woman who came out of her house.

Paijo immediately faced the woman who was his first and only wife whom he had married more than 40 years ago. Looking at his wife who faithfully aged with him, made him remember their youth and smiled at her wrinkled face.

"Why sir, you're smiling to yourself. Come on, the rice is still warm." Said his wife.

"Your face is still beautiful, Sri." As he walked towards the front door where his wife named Sritun was.

"halah .. yok eat first." Of course, she who has been with Paijo for decades knows her husband's behavior the same as before.

They both entered the house, which was full of simplicity. Looking in any direction, the furniture was just cheap stuff that could be found in any market. The floor of the house was also a dirt floor, of course if you walked on it you had to wear slippers.

The two of them ate their lunch with gusto and laughed a few times at Paijo's jokes.

At half past 12 noon, the sun had reached the top of the sky. Human shadows would be invisible for now. Kresno, ran to Paijo's house, his grandfather's house. In a hurry, he went to the front of the house to take shelter while catching his breath.

After he was exhausted and breathed wisely, he entered the house where his grandfather and grandmother lived. Yes, Kresno is the grandson of Paijo and Sritun. More precisely Kresno is the last grandchild of the two of them.

"What's wrong Tres, why are you running around?" said his grandmother who knew he was running towards the house.

"I'm hungry mbah..." said Kresno who was sitting in the living room still wearing his full blue uniform.

Tres was what the grandparents called Kresno and mbah was what Kresno called his grandparents.

"Well, change your clothes first and eat later, there are still plenty of side dishes for you." Said the grandfather who could no longer stand up straight due to age.

Immediately. Kresno went to his room and changed his clothes. Then, he immediately went to the dining room and laid down in front of it.

"Thank you mbah." Kresno said and his grandfather nodded in return.

As the afternoon passed, the sun was now not directly above the sky. The sunlight had turned slightly orange. Paijo, Kresno's grandfather was sitting on a chair that resembled a bed in the front yard of the house, exactly where he had sat earlier in the day.

The sound of birds chirping is still often heard and the sound of bells from bicycles driven by villagers is also often heard.

Unlike earlier in the day, now beside him was his grandson who was the son of Paijo and Sritun's last child.

"In the past, the land of Java often had volcanic eruptions, so much of the land in Java was used for agriculture. Like your grandfather, who was often in the rice fields working."

"But, where are the villagers who work in the fields now, feeling that every time I go to school, there is no one working in the rice fields?"

"They work every day after dawn, and at half past seven they go home and continue again at 9am. Until noon and again in the afternoon. If you go to the fields now, maybe you will meet the villagers in their rice fields." While stroking his grandson's head. He said so.

Dawn time is the time when 1 hour the sun has not risen.

The two of them chatted pleasantly until the sunlight began to disappear and the sounds of animals such as frogs began to be heard, signaling that night was coming.

They both entered the house and were greeted by their grandmother who was preparing food for the three of them to eat.

After eating the delicious food, Kresno went into his room to study. Then 3 hours later, he fell asleep.

Half past 6am the next day.

Kresno was woken up by his grandmother who had already woken up.

The sunlight had not yet appeared. But she had already cooked food for the three of them for breakfast.

After worshipping and eating his grandmother's food, of course as a schoolboy he hurried to take a shower. While his grandfather was in the yard feeding his chickens, which he kept well.

After changing his clothes, Kresno immediately rushed to the front room to look for his grandfather to ask his grandfather's permission to go to school. Of course, he wouldn't find his grandfather because he wasn't there.

"Grandma, where is grandpa?" Kresna asked, to which the grandmother immediately replied by pointing to the side door.

Knowing that, he hurriedly went there to say goodbye to his grandfather.

"Why did you leave so early?"

"I forgot that today is sports day. So now I have to leave grandfather."

The grandfather's hand was still holding Kresno's hand, normally, Kresno wouldn't leave this early, and of course he was suspicious of his grandson. But after realizing that the uniform Kresno was wearing was a sports uniform, he let go of his grandson.

Immediately after saying goodbye, Kresno ran to the school which was quite far from the house. He passed through the village and had to pass through the rice fields that stretched far away.

Running along the path, he saw several villagers working on their rice fields.

Thinking about it, he remembered his grandfather's words yesterday that discussed this matter.

His running steps slowly decreased but did not stop. Looking to the western horizon, where the sun would end there in the afternoon. There was a huge mountain that had not erupted for a long time.

"Is it going to erupt?" Kresno said carelessly.

Shaking his head. He immediately went back to running and forgot what he had said earlier.
