Present day....

"D-damn it...What time is it now...?" I muttered drowsily as I pulled my hand away from the alarm clock and slowly sat up on my bed.
After a few moments, I slowly averted my gaze towards the Alarms interface. Ignoring the dust on the surface and the slight discolouration of the plastic, I saw the time was "07:30AM".
"Well alright...It's quite early but I guess there's no harm having breakfast with my mom." I shrugged as I slowly opened my curtains and begin walking off towards my greyscale stone bathroom.
Upon opening the door, I took note of the basicness of my bathroom. It did have everything such as a shower room, a sink with a slightly dirty mirror above it, a toilet bowl and a cabinet where a few old towels I salvaged the previous day resided.
With a sigh, I grabbed my toothbrush and noticed most of the bristles have become frayed over the months of repetitive usage.
"Ugh...Matthias have much more better toothbrushs than me..i bet..thats why his teeth is so much more nicer and he can attract all the girls-" I quickly paused my thinking as i brushed my teeth. "Yeah no...what am i thinking..Im still young..i shouldnt be focused on getting a Boyfriend or Girlfriend...I dont have to be like him or anyone else really.."
With that thought aside, I washed my face and stepped back out into my room and begin dressing up for college. I knew that this is a new semester for me so I will try and put out a first good impression. I always had a preference for Dark edgy clothing..but i knew i should not make it too over the top or else itll just look awful in front of everyone so I opened my closet to browse through the limited options i had. Inside was 2 Black Beanies, some Grey and purple Hooded Jackets and i had some short pants and a few jeans. After 5 minutes of inspecting around, I decided that ill wear a grey jacket with black jeans.
"Simple but effective" I thought to myself as i wore the chosen Apparel and headed out of my room door.
As i exited my room, I was greeted by the Golden orange Sunrise illuminating the living room, I could see the cracks on the walls and the dusty wooden floorboards as it creaks as i trodded upon it to reach the dining table. There, Sat my mom, a 53 years old middle aged woman dressed in a simple brown dress. She was busy listening to the radio regarding the latest news happening around and near our town cluster. Outside the living room window, the golden sun-rays illuminated the dilapidated buildings that dotted around my own home, the small cracks and dirt still rather visible.

You see, the area i was in used to be a Massive city called Melbourne before the wars begin and now post war, the city has broken off into 3 districts. Each district compromised of 2 town clusters to act as further segregation in the district itself. The first district was what I would call the "Sparkling District". The Sparkling District is where the Affluent people resided. The streets were very pristine and were kept sparkling by workers from the lower end districts. As mentioned before, there are 2 town clusters in every district. Thus, in the Sparkling District, theres a town cluster where all the Millionares stay and then theres another town cluster where all the billionares reside.
The second District called the "Common District" was where 45% of Melbournes residents stayed in. Here are where the commonfolks and average Joes lived their modest average lives. One cluster is for the lower middle class and the other for the Upper middle class.
As for me and my Mom, we stay in the "Rusty District". It was a place where the impoverished stayed, the roads and buildings cracked, the electricity barely ever functions and clean water was scarce. Me and my mom stayed in the town cluster where the people are somewhat impoverished but can afford basic necessities and a near stable supply of electricity and internet.
It was also the safest of the two town clusters as rumours were spreaded around that the lowest town clusters of the Rusty District was riddled with Crime and illegal activities. Thus, I tend to avoid wandering anywhere near the town cluster no matter the time of day.
My mom had a Job working as a simple Nanny for one of the richer People in the Upper middle class households in the Common District. My mom says that technically, we have enough money to move to the Lower middle class town cluster but the house mortgage alone would eat up most of our savings and thats why we still remained in our current town cluster. At least i get to have my privileges of clean food and water.
"Morning Mom, what news have you heard so far?" I casually sat and leaned on the chair with my feet slightly apart.
"Morning Jared dear...I heard that a new cartel has been causing some trouble today such as breaching a section of the wall that separate our town cluster from theirs...just be careful alright..? Cant risk you getting harmed or kidnapped" My mother replied with a hint of motherly concern in her tone.
"Its ok Mom...I’ll be fine..I’m 18 this year. I can take good care of myself." I gingerly replied as I drank a cup of water.
“Alright that’s good dear…anyways, here’s some breakfast that I made for you.” Mom then stood up and went into the kitchen before coming out with a large plate a few minutes later. There was warm toast, some beans, two boiled eggs and a small packet of butter gifted by her employers.
I happily accepted the plate and proceeded to dig in. Savouring the different tastes and textures. It was a simple yet nutritious meal as I went to clean my plate after I was done and I grabbed my old naval blue bag pack, housing the straps upon my shoulders.
“I’ll be back by 3pm mom!” I called out from the doorway as I unlocked the creaky doors with my keys and donned my black shoes on. There were a few holes but still mostly functional so I lived with it.
As I shut the door, I went on with my day, not realising that today will take an unexpected turn….One that will reshape the very fate of my life.
