To those who have read my other series, Wayward, while I will maintain my writing style and drive to create complex and realistic characters with heartwarming moments of companionship, please note that this series, setting, and cast of characters are a bit darker, tragic, and more survival-oriented than Wayward. They don't cheat as much as Phoenix does in that regard.

While the reality/universe and system are the same, the planet and its gods are not and it comes with a much harsher environment and dystopian society.

Please be sure to check content tags, which I'll include at the beginning of each book like I do for Wayward, and please feel free to comment if you think I missed a warning to include.

There will be many tie-ins between the two series, but neither is required reading for the other to understand what occurs. The rules of the world/system will be explained as Jin learns them for herself.

Also, as per the title, Jin is a very different personality from Phoenix. She is much less naive or shy and unafraid to speak her (often sarcastic) mind and be proactive. While I would personally consider Phoenix to be “book smart,” Jin is more “street smart” with her pragmatism. Jin is also not on the asexual spectrum like Phoenix is, so the romance subplot will be more obvious, though still not the primary focus.

Summary:

Jin was a promising student-athlete plagued with cancer until getting yeeted to a strange magical world where might makes right and fighting for your life is merely entertainment for the gods. Jin now has to gain as much power as she can to climb the tower that was meant to be her death sentence. She can’t trust anyone except her Sect’s band of misfits who were never expected to survive the first floor, let alone reach its pinnacle. Will she be able to prove the gods wrong and escape the tower of trials?

Regarding Romance:

While romance is not the main overarching plot, some romantic subplots will be shown and explored. There will not be explicit “spicy” scenes. The main protagonist is a woman who is attracted to femininity, so don’t be shocked if she ends up in a relationship with another woman somewhere along the journey.

Content Warning:

Violence and death (of people and monsters, including major supporting characters), profanity, verbal sexual harassment and off-page, non-detailed assault of a minor side character, and dealing with grief and other past trauma.

I will also note that many major characters have various physical and/or mental disadvantages, such as deafness, missing limbs, scarring, dyslexia, ADHD, and developmental delays. I try to always be respectful when representing these aspects of their lives, but the story will address some struggles they constantly deal with as society fails to accommodate them. A fictional form of sign language is heavily used, but please consider any dialogue to be “translated” into English for ease of reading.
