Ch 5 - Distractions

Once Izuku got out of the dungeon, he counted the money he had earned. Sixty-five hundred yen ($50.05). Apparently, the higher level the creature is, the more money and XP he earns.

He checked the time almost immediately after counting his money and realized that the two hours he was in there, amounted to thirty minutes in real life. Izuku pondered if there were options for quests, but there were none that he could find, so he let it go.

The boy looked at his staff by his side and winced. He decided to get a new one immediately and seeing as it was about four thirty, he set out. he might as well get some groceries while he's at it as he actually wants dinner and breakfast... With a sigh, Izuku grabs his keys and heads out, barely noticing that his mother's two pairs of shoes at the entrance were both gone. He files that information away, hoping beyond anything that his first assumption wasn't right, but he doesn't go and check, too much of a coward.

Izuku finds his Martial arts shop quickly, it was the only one in town, so it had a lot of people coming in and out. The boy walked in, looking around quietly before finding a metal pole in the back corner. it'll be heavier than wood, but it won't burn, and it won't break as easily. Izuku buys it for fifty-two hundred yen ($40.04) it was a good price considering it was gradient. Black at the bottom and silver at the top. I twirl it in my hands a bit, trying to acclimate to it's weight.

Afterward, the boy head to the market, picking up some fish, rice, eggs, dried kelp, dried bonito flakes, some Nashi (Japanese pears) Daikon, ginger, and Soy sauce. Ok, so he may have gotten a bit more then he initially wanted, but he was hungry and wanted some Buri Daikon for tonight's dinner.

Izuku walked back to his empty and cold apartment and sighed. He'll have to check eventually... but he was scared... both of mothers shoes are gone from the front entrance, and he didn't want to be right... that mother left for good.

Once the boy put everything away, he slowly walked down the hall and peeked hit head inside his mothers room, feeling like he was doing something wrong. His heart dropped. He could see the bed, the desk and the dresser, but nothing else really. there was no clothes in the dresser or the closet, no sheets on the bed, no nick-nacks on the desk... She was gone...

Izuku didn't have the tears that wanted to fall, didn't have the voice to cry out and didn't have the heart to say anything to the police. He was alone. Does he really want to survive like that? Izuku's chest felt like it was constricting, pushing the air out. black spots started to dot his vision.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

It took perhaps thirty minutes to shake off the panic attack that overtook him. he almost fell unconscious... He just... needed something to do to get me calmed down. he didn't want to make any food, so he walked out of the house once more, heading towards the Cat-Cafe he wanted to apply for. As he walked, his breaths became calmer, his strides longer and his eyes focused. it was perhaps 6 at night and Izuku didn't have any more money on him, so he'll just apply and leave, unless there's an immediate position that needed filled for the night, in which case, that would be best.

Izuku strode into the cafe and was immediately jumped by a black cat with a crook in its tail. The cat jumped up and onto his chest, making the boy reach out to steady the creature who seemed to be trying to get out of the cafe. With a few quick scritches under their chin, they calmed down.

"Karma! You best get off him! You're being a very naughty cat!" An older woman came around the counter and picked the cat up off of Izuku, who almost immediately missed the warmth. "Hey sugar. What can I do for you today?" The older lady had short grey hair and was a little overweight. She had a gorgeous smile though.

"Hello! I was actually hoping to apply for a job." The woman paused at my words, looking me up and down before smiling again.

"Perfect! I was actually needing new personnel for a while now." The woman led me to the back and asked me a few questions, asked if she could see me work for a while and I said that I'd love to start working as soon as possible.

So now the woman was teaching me how to use the equipment and all the recipes. I got most of it down rather quickly and the woman who's name I found out was Jenn was very patient. It wasn't long before a customer came in. I stood at the register and painted on a smile. "Hello! What can I get you today?" The man looked at the display case and the board before choosing a Long Macchiato with caramel syrup and a chocolate chip muffin. pretty standard. Izuku quickly bagged the treat before starting to make the coffee. "Caramel and chocolate hmm? you don't really look the type for sweets, but I suppose looks can be deceiving." I give the man a quick smile.

"Yeah, I can see why you'd think that. Tomorow I'll have to do harder of a workout to get rid of the calories, but it's always worth it." The man, tall and in a business suit as though he just got off work, smiled back. by now I had the coffee done and handed it over in a to-go cup. He seemed rather surprised when he took his first sip and I tensed. "I should come here more often, this is really good!" The man smiled at me and made to leave.

  "Thank you! Please come again!"
