Blessed silence. The rockets detaching from the spaceship as the internal explosion rips apart the fuel lodge. Star speckled black space far and all encompassing. A planet nearby. The heat of the escape pod entering the atmosphere the last thing I remember before passing out. Pain and discomfort greet me as I am woken up by the muffled sounds of animals though underbrush outside the egg shaped pod.  I unstrap myself and nearly collapse to the metal floor.  After I steady myself I check the air outside the pod to see if I can take off my helmet. It seems like this world is surprisingly comparable to Earth. I grab some medical supplies, some rations, step out the door in my nanocarbon pan-environmental suit, my backpack/water tank strapped to my back, and my smart gun strapped to the side.

There are vivid colors, plants and trees, sunlight, bird calls, and animals scurrying off in the distance. I spot a stream that trails far away and a mountain even farther behind me. I walk by the stream for what seems like miles before it widens into a river other streams combining into this one, and further still a structure, now I see it, a wall, a wooden wall ten feet high with roofs sticking out within this enclosure, this settlement it looks like. Who would have thought there were already people here. I heard nothing from the Interplanetary Expeditionary force. Could this be? Another prime world? I walk up to the big wooden gate with the human looking guards wearing cloth and padded shirts with wooden shields and spears. As I walk up to them and they notice me I am regarded with confusion, surprise and fear. It is at this point that I take of my helmet and they happily relax. The older looking guard with grey hair ,short cut, "vjde eeonfioe wennn?" they ask me.

I respond, "sorry the auto translation chip will just be another minute." They are even more confused and attempt to garner a means of communication but I gesture to wait. A awkward minute passes and I stand and say, "Hello. I am a human from planet Earth and I come in peace." The left guard steps forward and says, "What the hell does that mean? What are you doing out here? Why are you dressed so weirdly and who are you? Oh and welcome to the woodlands by the way, seeing as obviously, you've never been around these parts before."

(Gem) "Ehem *cough* sorry my name is Gem, I came from my pod back that way and I haven't been around people for a few years. I am from not sure if you know this, but you live on a planet that is like a ball in shape and everything from here to beyond your sight and around is just the very tip of the mountain that is where you live. .... uh, Oh right!, My clothes are just different than yours because I am from far far away, I am an explorer, and I just want to travel and see new places for fun." 

(Guard)" *Sighs*Well alright,  just don't make any trouble and I can let you on through. Open up the gates Erin." 

The other guard swiftly opens the gate and waits for me to enter. "Nice to meet you and thanks for letting me in." 

And so Gems Journey begins.
