When we arrived back at the car, Mr. Erik was already waiting for us. The engine was running, and he leaned out of the window as soon as he saw us. "How did it go?" he asked with curiosity.
I nodded and climbed into the backseat. "It went according to plan," I answered, still feeling the impact of what had just happened. "Let's head back."
Mr. Erik shifted gears and we started our journey back to the neighborhood.
I need to get ready for the dinner tonight. Will you both be joining us?
Jaken shot a quick look at Tabaguchi, who shook his head with a playful smile.
"No need, we're all set," Tabaguchi replied. "Family get-togethers aren't really our thing, but thanks for the offer, man."
I grinned, grateful for their frankness. "Thanks for joining me today, guys. It means a great deal.
We finally reached our destination, and I checked my watch; it was already 2 PM. The day had gone by in a blur with everything that had occurred. We exchanged handshakes and goodbyes before parting ways.
"Take care," I called out as I made my way back to my apartment. There was much to do before tonight, so I needed to start preparing.
As I unlocked the door to my apartment and stepped inside, the familiar scent of home greeted me. The warmth from the heater enveloped me, chasing away the chill from the cold winter air outside.
My mom's voice echoed from the kitchen, asking about my morning plans.
"I went to visit Ray with Jaken and Tabaguchi," I replied, setting down my bag and coat on the couch before joining her in the kitchen.
She paused in her cooking, turning to look at me with a curious expression. "How is Ray doing?"
"He's good," I said with a smile. "We had a really productive day."
"That's great to hear," she said, returning my smile before turning back to her pot on the stove. "Now go get ready for dinner. You know how your Aunt hates it when we're late."
"Will do," I said, heading to my room to change out of my workout clothes. As I got dressed for dinner, I couldn't help but reflect on the events of the day and mentally prepare for the challenges ahead.
Once ready, I picked up my phone and texted Mia, Nora, Lars, Evelyn, Ray, Maria, and Mr. Johan in our group chat.

With everyone on board, I felt a surge of anticipation for the evening ahead. It was going to be a night to remember.
I entered the kitchen and found my mom standing at the stove, her wooden spoon rhythmically stirring a pot of bubbling stew. I leaned against the counter next to her, eager to ask her a question. "If we could live anywhere in Oslo, where would you choose?" I asked.
Her eyes lit up with excitement as she thought about it. "Definitely by the sea in Nordstrand," she said wistfully. "But that would be too expensive for people like us. Maybe in another life."
I couldn't help but laugh at my mom's playful response. "Nordstrand does sound amazing," I agreed, imagining the luxurious homes and picturesque views. "But for now, we'll just enjoy what we have at the moment."
My mom smiled warmly at me before turning back to the pot on the stove. "Exactly," she said. "Let's make tonight special."
We both felt content and grateful for our humble home and the shared moment together. As she stirred the pot, I added, "Mom, me and a few friends have an after-party later. You can join us if you'd like. Mr. Johan is coming too, so it won't just be us kiddos."
She chuckled, a twinkle in her eye. "Well, that sounds tempting. Maybe I'll drop by for a bit and see what you youngsters are up to."
I grinned, appreciating her enthusiasm. "Great! It'll be fun to have you there."
"It's in a nice hotel Mr. Bigdalen is letting me use," I continued. "So Aunt and the family can maybe join if you wish. Mr. Bigdalen said I could use the hotel freely."
Mom's eyes widened in surprise and delight. "Really? That sounds amazing. Maybe we'll take you up on that offer. It would be nice for the whole family to get together in such a lovely place."
I nodded, feeling even more excited about the evening. "Absolutely, Mom. It's going to be a great night."
My mind races with thoughts of giving my mother the chance to bask in the glory of her child accomplishments, something she never had the opportunity to do in my previous life. I am determined to put on a spectacle that will make her heart swell with pride, to see the gleam of admiration in her eyes as she mingles with our loved ones in this luxurious hotel setting. This night is not just for me, it is a tribute to the woman who sacrificed everything for me.
