Prologue - Heroic Confrontation

Prologue - Heroic Confrontation

Luther watched as a century of careful planning and painful sacrifices unravelled at the hands of a bumbling idiot & his harem of female accomplices. His females consisted of a dim witted Arch Priestess, a Fire Mage, a Holy Crusader and a Thief. They were dumb but powerful, the most annoying combination of all.

Using the senses of his minions through [Soul Communion], he watched as they advanced upon the castle recently reclaimed from the destroyed Dullahan General.

At the direction of the male Hero, the Arch Priestess summons a tidal wave of Sacred water from a nearby stream, which washed away the demonic legion standing guard at the gates of the castle. From low ranked Imps to high ranking Demonic Lords they all suffered damage from the sacred water, the lower ranks are banished to the Hellscape while the higher ranks suffer heavy damage and their fire magic is dampened and inherently weaker than before.

They strode forward unconcerned as to the remaining demons who cry out in pain and rage. The Crusader served as a distraction while the Arch Priestess fires off exorcism blasts from her forehead, interspersed with the Hero and the Thief using [Steal] to disarm the demons of their weapons. The Arch Priestess only needs to touch a Demon for them to die, her presence reeks of the Divine and it's touch is lethal to demon and undead alike.

The demon army collapses in on itself, completely incapable of fighting back, the remaining Demons retreat back to their realm or deeper into the castle.

The Thief dressed in a short skirt and inappropriately revealing strapless top, scouts ahead for the team, using her superior perception to find and or disable the various traps on the ground floor of the castle. Because of her they avoid the spiked pitfall trap, bypass a disabled poison gas trap and are warned about the ambush waiting ahead of them. A legion of undead meant to surprise and overwhelm the five of them with superior numbers.

Even knowing there's an ambush ahead, they rush in heedless of danger, the female Crusader and the female Fire Mage leading the way. The Crusader uses her body as a shield against the barrage of frost, fire and lightning spells. She screams and squirms in apparent enjoyment as the spells hit her body, tearing apart her amor, exposing her pale skin, yet marking no mark on her. Her durability is absurd.

As the Crusader provides a distraction with her bizarre behavior the Fire Mage uses [Explosion] to utterly destroy my legion of Skeleton mages, Zombies and Skeleton Warriors. The massive fireball doesn't just destroy my minions, it weakens the rock of the ceiling above, causing it to start crumbling and falling down at random on the burnt remains of my forces. None of the falling rocks, hit them, which is inexplicably lucky. The Fire Mage collapses after exhausting her mana supplies, flopping face forward onto the stone floor.

The Hero gets distracted by the sight of the Fire Mage's short dress rising up during her fall, exposing her black panties, he blushes, suffers a random nose bleed and stammers incoherently about something involving lolis. The Priestess slaps him to get his mind out of the gutter. Meanwhile the Crusader, is busy covering her breasts, rambling on about how embarassed she is and yet squirming in such a way as to indicate an inappropriate enjoyment of her apparent humiliation.

"This is ridiculous, how are these idiots destroying my minions so easily? This is a travesty." Luther protested angrily.

"Patience, I will take care of them, personally." The Demon King responded, striding forward to engage them directly, wielding his oversized Demon Blade.

Luther covered his face in despair and frustration. This was a complete failure. It's barely tolerable to be defeated by an intelligent opponent but a bunch of overpowered idiots defeating him was simply too much to bear. Luther would not stand for it.

According to the reports sent to him by one of his retired Liches, the Hero had been granted a boon by a Goddess for his untimely death in another world. Due to some stupidity on behalf of the Goddess and the hero's spite, he had chosen to drag her down with him into this world and supposedly the Priestess was a former Goddess. She bragged about it constantly, according to rumors.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Finally the Hero had carried the Fire Mage away from the ambush room and the Priestess was helping her recover, the Crusader had been covered up by the Hero's cape. It had taken him a long time to notice the Crusader's situation, apparently the sight of blank panties, distracted him to the near nakedness of his other companion. His priorities confused me.

The Thief seemed the sanest in this group of insane people, hanging back to make sure they weren't ambushed while they were recovering from the after effects of the triggered ambush.

The Demon King confronts the weakened group.

As he watched through his last remaining useful undead minion, the normally useless Spirit Scout, the 'hero' continued monologuing to the Demon King about truth and justice and the value of hard work or some other nonsense. The Demon King was countering that everything was futile in the face of true evil and that all resistance was inevitably meant to fail.

It was remarkably dumb to engage in philosophical debate, instead of chopping off their heads and feasting on their entrails. The Hero used [Steal] to snatch the 7 foot tall Demon Blade from out of the Demon King's grip, weakening his tether to the realm. The Priestess used the water from her canteen to splash the Demon King, he laughed it off at first, then he started screaming, before melting into a pile of black and red goop.

They congratulated each other on a successful mission. According to the Priestess's boasting, she had saved up her tears and put it in the canteen so as to destroy the Demon King. The Hero patted her on the head like a well trained dog and she seemed happy about the praise.

"This can not stand. I'm all out of minions and I will not let myself be defeated without one more last ditch effort."

Luther looked at Kono's soul, using the Spirit Scout's senses. It was surrounded by the glow of a divine blessing, protecting it from direct damage, Luther would not let that stop him. If he could not strip the soul from Kono, he'd use an indirect method to gain his revenge instead.

Luther used the experience gained from two centuries as a necromancer and a century as a demon summoner to trace Kono's soul's wavelength past the God Realm which he has successfully avoided for the last 2 centuries and beyond. After minutes of vigorous soul searching and excessive mana expenditure, he discovered the tether linking this Kono to his original world.

It looked like he'd have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

The Hero was talking to the others about looting the castle for some kind of grand prize for defeating the Demon King. He didn't make any sense. They were already on the move in his direction. This would have been a great time to make use of a spatial spell to escape, unfortunately he had never gained those type of spells, Spatial Mages were rare after the culling by the Balancers. Luther could only try one more time, if it didn't work, there was a backup in waiting.

He walked out from where he had been hiding during the battle between his tool the Demon King and this band of 'heroes' to interrupt their ludicrous attempts at looting to deliver a dire pronouncement.

"I wouldn't celebrate so soon heroes. You may have won this round but I will have my revenge."

They ignored Luther's words as expected. The Crusader charged forth with her sword which somehow missed him repeatedly as he stood still waiting for death. Thankfully he didn't have to wait too much longer for death, as the failed attack was followed by a [God Blow], a divine smiting. That burned. Luther let go of his remaining undead and his 'immortal body' to follow the tether on Kono's soul.

Luther died.

Luther traveled through the planes of existences in soul form, bombarded by unbelievable sights and sounds, a blur of colors, images and experiences, holding tightly to the tether of the Hero's soul.

Luther awoke with a start to find himself staring at a white ceiling.

It took a long moment to recover from the extra-planar journey. A strange new body, with unfamiliar thoughts and feelings.

One thing was for certain, he was in the Hero's home world and he would get his revenge.

Nothing and no one would stand in his way to Ascension, not humans, heroes or Gods.
