Sweat beading down his face, he couldn't believe what he just heard. His face was flushed red with an obvious nervousness about it. In front of him, a girl with long black hair pulled into a tightly wrapped bun and blue eyes, that could pierce the soul, was staring down at his blushing cheeks.
“What do you mean no?!” The youth blurted out in frustration.
“As I told you I’m just not interested in you, Louis.”
“What are heck you talking about, May?! All I’m asking is why can’t I have dinner with the rest of the platoon.”

Around the time Louis turned 17, he left his small town in Kansas to enroll in the army. It wasn’t that he couldn't get into college, in fact it was quite the opposite, he was always the top of his class and was even offered a few scholarships. However, Louis was on the heavy side and always picked on for being fat. Determined to change his appearance he enrolled the army, thinking it would be a breeze. How naive he was. He was constantly being pushed to his body's upmost limits, ready to collapse at any moment; yet, strangely enough he never dropped out. Instead, he persistently chose tougher and tougher courses in order to achieve his goal. Skip to the present (2 years later), from the boy all the others made fun of and referred to as “piggy” , he had now transformed into a lean, 6’10’’, rather handsome young man. He had short cropped black hair, hazel eyes, and none of the excess weight he previously carried. So why was this 19 year old guy groveling for food, you ask? No it wasn’t S&M play. Actually, currently he was enrolled in a course known as “Hell’s Gate”. With an 80% drop out rate it certainly lived up to its name. So back to the conversation.

“I told you, if you don’t run another 2 miles in the next 10 minutes you don't eat.”
“But, I’ve already run 25 already. By the time I’ve finished I’ll have done more than a marathon… He don’t you just whistle as if you don’t hear me!”
“Oh sorry… I can't hear whiners.”
“......”

“Man, you don’t look so good.” Louis’ best friend Ryan said with a giant smirk plastered on his face.
“Oh shut up! Man you don’t know how hard May just pushed me.”
“Next time you just shouldn’t back talk her.”
“ *Grumble* Well she had it coming *Grumble*”

“Its that attitude of yours that gets you in trouble… Oh by the way I saved you a piece of bread from dinner.”
“Ryan... you do care.” Louis looked up at his friend with watery eyes as if he hadn’t been fed in ages.
“Just shut up and eat it. By the way Louie have you heard about that new game Horizon.”
“Hmm.. yesh washn’t dat the neh game thash jus came out.” Louis said with a mouth full of bread.
“Yea, but its not just that. I heard that it feels as if you are actually INSIDE the game.”
“Oh. I heard that too.”
Horizon the new blockbuster game released by the rising game company Legolas. It promised a full body immersion into the game with all 5 senses. On its opening week, it managed to sell out at around 500,000 copies. Having been released for 2 months, its managed to entice an enormous number of 150 million people worldwide.
“So what about it Ryan.” Louis stated indifferently nibbling on the dwindling piece of bread.
“Huhu… I’ve managed to get my hands on two capsules, but since you seem so uninterested…”
“What!” Louis bursted out spewing crumbs all over his friend.
“Dude… seriously.”
“Whatever, so what was that about you getting two capsules.”
“Yea. A friend of mine hooked me up...Hey don’t laugh! What’cha mean "friend", you do know I have other friends than you… Anyway once training is over you wanna join me?”
“Really!”
“Yea, I have an extra helmet anyway.” The two arduous weeks that seemed like an eternity, finally ended, thus concluding their training, and marking the beginning of the two friends adventure into the new world of Horizon.

Extra:
“Yo, Louie, is it really alright to just skip the scenes involving the training of Hell’s Gate”
“Yea, don’t worry bout it. No one really cares about that stuff before we enter the game anyways.”
“Well if you say so…”
“Don’t worry it’ll appear later in the series… maybe”
“Wait. Did you just say maybe.”
*Whistle*
“You did, didn't you. Hey Louie don’t just look away from me.”
