Senna's Compendium of Life in Messaris

CHARACTERS

-Senna Lorenz/Sayko Ashcaster: The protagonist of the story. Senna was formerly an office worker

named Sayko who lived on Earth until she was 33 years old, perishing in a freak accident on her way

home from work one fateful evening. She is now inhabiting the body of Senna Lorenz, under the care of her “new” mother, Celica Lorenz. Celica believes that perhaps Sayko and Senna have always been the same person.

-Petrus Lorenz: Senna’s father. He has been missing since the end of the Threnody War after

confronting Eryx the Kronomancer in his fortress with a small army of adventurers and heroes from

several kingdoms.

-Celica Lorenz: Senna’s mother. She has been living in the city of Enzen alone for several years due to

Senna’s comatose body being cared for there. She was a notable adventurer when she was younger and

fought in the war until Senna was born. Now that Senna has awoken, she had dedicated herself to

helping her recover from spending 6 years in a coma.

-Phaedra Lorenz: Senna’s older sister. She has been traveling abroad working as an adventurer to help

protect various provincial cities during their post war reconstruction.

-Reyna Grassblade: A Ni’Tyri (cat) woman who runs Reyna’s Boutique in Enzen. She is an old comrade in arms to Celica and Petrus, having served with them for years. After the war, she wanted to be close to Celica to support her while Senna was in a coma due to Petrus being missing.

-Eryx: A deceased kronomancer that had once sought to guide the world into a bright future through his mysterious understanding of semi-modern technology and infrastructure. He eventually turned mad and began a conquest of supremacy to conquer the known world, sparking a war that lasted over 25 years and nearly shattered every kingdom. Upon his death he released a final spell that separated the soul from the body of around 1-5% of the world population, causing mass death and comatose victims, known as Aporis Abjection.

-Rez’nir: An aethos that has taken an interest in Senna. They are a feline like creature about the size of a lynx.

-Monsignor: The shadowy and mysterious patriarch of Bastogne Manor. Very little is known about him, other than he has a group of acolytes each named after particular flowers that he colloquially refers to as “the garden”. He has sent one of them, Orchid, to Enzen to establish a base of operations to further their enigmatic goals.

-Orchid: One of Monsignor’s “flowers”, formerly known as Callak. He was the victim of his city, Vrissk, being massacred during the early years of the war against Eryx for their support of the allied kingdoms. His whole family presumed dead, somewhere along the line he ended up in the care of Monsignor.

-Thiazzi Ulagarri: A boy near Senna’s age that she rescued after fighting off bullies harassing him in the park. Will he potentially become a new friend?

-Yula: The deceased older sister of Orchid/Callak. Died keeping a Nether Dawn officer busy long enough for Callak to escape.

-Euripides Sanatorium: The hospice facility in Enzen for those suffering from Aporia as well as other

unusual afflictions or maladies.

-Brydelgard Academy: The leading academy of the region for scholars, mages, alchemists, and professional soldiers located in Enzen.

Races

-Aethos: Beings composed of mana that visit the mortal realm. Not unlike “espers” from Final Fantasy VI.

-Elves: Second eldest of all the sentient peoples of Messaris and the most inclined towards magic. There are several groups of elves, all markedly different in appearance based on which “clan” they hail from.

-Dwarves: The youngest of the peoples of Messaris. Although stereotypically craftsmen, many, many more are the bulk of farmers and ranchers of the world, whether it be the traditional variety in pastoral fields, as well as with fungi and living stones.

-Humans: Only older than the dwarves, originally nomadic wanders that left the furthest southern deserts and formed sprinkled settlements across the continents until officially welcomed to join the territories that would become the kingdoms of today.

-Qu’Len: The eldest people of Messaris. Given upright sentient forms based off the wildlife of Messaris, they would be the first settlers of the first continents that raised from the vast, endless seas.

Glossary of Terms

-Aporia: The status caused by the medical condition known as Aporis Abjection.

-Aporis Abjection: colloquially known as “the forever sleep”, “sleeping sickness”, and “husk syndrome”.

The condition was the result of a forbidden spell discovered by Eryx, casting it in his dying moments as vengeance for his defeat by the group effort of every kingdom. 1-5% of the total world population fell under the effects of the condition, causing mass hysteria and loss amongst the peoples of Messaris.

The condition itself causes the ject to release their soul from their body, leaving the latter in a seemingly permanent comatose state. Some sleepers have awoken, their soul seemingly returned to the ject, often suffering from partial to total amnesia.

However, there are two fatal conditions that can arise from those suffering from Aporis Abjection.

1) Their body dies if left exposed to the elements or they fell asleep in a precarious physical location.

2) The sleeper awakes and is no longer the person they were, leading to an aggressive mutant. The two leading causes seem to either be the soul not fully anchoring within the ject, or worse; the wandering spirit of an aberration from Rasuum possesses the body and wreaks havoc on those in the vicinity.

-Ject: The anchor in each person that ties soul to body. It also acts as the focal point for mana as well as spell casting and summoning

-Ject Mutatem: When a soul and ject don’t link correctly or match, resulting in a frenzied, monstrous

state known as Ject Mutatem.

-Mana: The (usually) invisible energy source that resides in all living things, acting as the medium to

cast spells or summon aethos. Each person is born with different sized reservoirs of mana in their ject and with training and work, any individual can increase the depth of said reservoir.
