Chapter 10: Meeting an Arch-Enemy

Chapter 10: Meeting an Arch-Enemy

Spoiler :

Felt bad for the small chapter this time, so I made another.

Magic, I’ve seen many mangas, animes, movies, and other medias portray the use of magic from the fundamental to the grandiose. It's a dream, a vision, something that allows you to force your very will upon the world and the world will take it, beg for it, and then crumble before it. Then you get to the most iconic magics of them all roots so deep, so tightly woven into magic it could be the called the source of all magic. Ancient witchdoctors trying to bring loved ones back to life, hidden wizards studying tombs trying to live forever, crashing hordes of undead under your banner. Necromancy is a dark romance, like those out of those dime a dozen vampire novels sell to get women to swoon over their immortal prince. Now though… how is this necromancy?

----------------------------------------

Thousands of flies covered my body, a sweet smell was raising from me as I yelled out in a rage draining the life force from all the bugs in the area. My eyes were glazed over in pure and utter hatred. Its been a week since I evolved, and all of these problems stemmed from one skill that I got during the evolution.

Sweet Smell:To attract prey you let off a sweet and delicate smell

It was actually a skill without a level, which I was grateful for since the plant parts of me seem to attract flies and other insects into the gooey mess that is my ribcage. After they come they create a coating of itchy insects that seems like a black squirming mess between each bone. Every few hours I’ve been draining their souls, though it seems as though it is a fruitless war between us, like a hydra two replace every one that falls. Yet.. I still struggle on hoping that one day I will have killed every last fly on this world.

Now, I will say that this has given me a few chances I wouldn’t have otherwise, with the demise of so many flies at once they leave decent sized crystals. They are small, and white, looking like a miniature version of the dryad one from earlier. As I held a large amount of smaller white crystals I could feel a slight pull from them all almost like magnets, adding mana to the effect all of them starting to glow and rattle in my hands. They all flash brightly in my hands condensing and turning into a large crystal from all of them. Larger than the Dryad crystal, not wanting to test out my first test of Necromancy on the Dryad crystal.

Letting the power of death consume the crystal, condensing it making the raw life and death energy swirl around each other. Crackling could be heard as a familiar shape started to form in front of me, a smooth round sphere with black and white swirling around each other. Crackling was heard again as thousands of fly corpses flew into the air, twisting and blackening the sky above me. This seemed a bit more flashy than I was expecting, I always thought that necromancy was quiet, and something done in the background under closed doors.

This swarm of corpses swirled around each other making a black hole of bodies that started to condense and become a more solid mass of dead, taking shape. Two large wings were what I noticed first piercing through the blackness, looking insectoid before splitting into three sets reminding me of an archangel. I gasped as I took a step back already able to tell what it was turning into as its blob-like body started to form started to elongate, stretching and forming separate parts. Two antenna came out of its head as it started to make glass like eyes that looked like chainmail, two sets of arms formed, looking both muscular and solid as it stood there. A screen came up and I stared at it for a second as all of my mana except for 5 depleted from my body.

“That seems the most optimum for now, I’ll accept it.” It seemed like a large portion of mana was wasted though it seemed like the further I leveled my necromantic arts the less would be wasted which was all the actual skill did. Further adjustments, and actual spells didn’t seem to be connected to the skill which gave me a hypothesis about my own skills, working on this magical body that I made could allow me to prove or disprove them.

This creature seemed like a god of insects, he slammed his right hands against his chest, “We are here to serve you sir.”

“We?”

“I am lord of the swarm, Mr. Fly.”

Tutorial speaks up, “I used your naming sense to name him.”

“Wonderful.” I sigh, starting to gather up mana with my breathing, as well as allowing some mana to pick up dirt. I found this actually provided color and shape to mana to people who couldn’t sense mana, also as a side effect it created more of an impact making my magic more flashy. Golems could be created from this, but their high mana dependency meant you’d lose that mana until you destroyed the golem. “Also what do you mean by the lord of the swarm?”

He lifted his hand, calling upon hordes of flies more than millions creating a wave of darkness that made me step back. “Fl… Flies?” My trauma from the past week made my eye twitch as I start to step back. A mist of undeath started to come out from me as I was about to consume all of the flies that were coming towards me, but one of my brothers touched my arm.

“He can control them.” The mist dissipated around me as I nodded to my brother, as I used my Fear Magic Seed to drain the fear out of my mind allowing it to grow.

Stepping forward, I pulled out my sword facing my fear like a hero, grabbing at my traveler’s cloak and flicking it to get the right atmosphere, cloak flowing in the wind behind me. “If you dare to attack, my sword shall pierce through the heavens.” Flowing the mana around me a green light appears around the sword.

It seemed as though my fears were true, with this many flies he couldn’t force all of them to not come after me. Hundreds of thousands started to mass together into a black cloud of buzzing, seeing this my eyes glinted with a hint of insanity. “Finally, you have shown your true self my greatest enemy, do you really think that I’d back down from your constant torture? WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!” Charging forward, my sword in front of me an aura of insanity and power madly radiated off my form.  As my vision turned black, I knew the swarm and I had become one in that moment…

----------------------------------------

Legends would be told of the day the sky went black, and the only sounds were the buzzing of millions of flies, and a strange laughter that shook the heavens and the earth. Then at the end of three days when the sun was setting a green beam of light appeared in the skies, piercing the clouds as a grey fog spread out from the origin point. Villages close to there spread rumors of a new Demon Lord rising to prominence, and brought many ‘heroes’ to the ruins from those days of horror. The trees, the grass, and the very stone itself was scarred, and everything reeked of death filling the small clearing in the forest with a very heavy feeling. The only clue that they had of the events that had transpired on those days was the rather large amount of flies in the area, attracted to the strange sweet smell that lingered in the air even days after the incident.
