I stared at the blue box for a while before turning to the rest of the people in the truck with me "are you guys seeing a blue box floating in front of you" I ask them. "Oh, do you mean the notification box" an old Caucasian man asks.
Nodding at him I try poking the box only for it to disappear. "Hmm this is like those novels where people have a system that gives them missions to complete but I don't see anybody giving a tutorial so it might be different" the Asian man says to me.
"I think we should all introduce ourselves and what we do for a living, I will go first" I announce to the group. "Hector, just graduated from College" I finish. "zhou, accountant" the Asian man says. Nodding to the rest of the group they all give out their names.
"Rachel, model"
"Frank, high school teacher"
"Stone, Jobless"
"Sasha, Lawyer"
"Brice, being rich"
"Robert, soldier"
"Doug, police"
"Anna, Waitress"
By the time the last person finished talking the truck had come to a stop. "Get down from the truck" the driver yells through the flap separating the back of the truck and the driver's side. Pulling back a bit I allow Doug and Frank to leave first before following their lead leaving the truck.
All around the truck were soldiers running around with a few trucks like ours leaving after dropping off soldiers. "Albright greenhorns follow me" a soldier wearing a rifle shouts at us before walking away." This is the frontier of the war so I recommend you all settle down quickly and try not to step on any landmines out in the field" the soldier says as he points at the dense forest to the west of us.
"Here we are, one bag filled with rations for three days, a canteen of water, a rifle and three cartridges with fifty bullets and a pistol with twelve bullets. That's all you get folks good luck" the soldier says after leading us to an open tent filled with bags with a rifle tied to each bag.
Once all of us had selected a bag and untied the rifles we were led by another soldier to a tent with another soldier with a clip board.
"You bunch must be really unlucky, your following 45th tank battalion to a town ten kilometers east west in about thirty minutes" he says to the group pointing out a group of tanks with some soldiers milling around them.
By now the group has swelled to over a hundred with new soldiers from other trucks.
Walking to the assigned battalion I look for the friendliest face I can see. Sitting beside a Latino man I ask "so the names Hector, anything a newbie like me should know". The man looks up at me for a while before he replies "Dominic, stay behind the tanks, it's better than walking behind meat shields when bullets can still put a hole through three guys" with that he lifts his rifle from the ground and begins turning it around. "Make sure your guns are loaded and practice changing the cartridge, a second can save your life" he continues.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
Following his advice by the time the thirty minutes are up I can safely change cartridges for the rifle and pistol though I don't know how I will do under fire and I am not too sure about my aim being the best. "Alright boys move out" a soldier yells before he climbs a tank that begins to leave the camp. Looking around I spot some of the men that arrived with me, Frank and Doug standing alone while the rest seem to have formed a group.
Tapping the arm of Dominic as we march I ask "I came here with some women but I can't find them". "That's because most women brought here are for the medics not infantry or if they are really unlucky they may be sent out into enemy town to gather information.
'Wow seems woman are either going to have a good time here or have a really nasty time' I think to myself as I follow Dominic as we slowly move ourselves to walk behind the closest tank. "So how long you have been in the army?" I ask Dominic. "Two years, one in France one in Germany now can you keep quiet this is prime ambush spot" he replies as he motions to the dense bush beside the road that has gradually turned into a forest.
Griping my rifle I scan the trees for any movement.
The next ten minutes are spent in tension as the fear of dying seems to be growing within me. Spotting something in the bushes i squint to get a better look when everything goes bad.
The first casualty is a tank that is hit by what I can only assume to be anti-tank rocket.
That German soldier is quickly brought down by the soldiers beside me. Looking father into the forest I see more soldiers with some of them carrying more anti-tank rockets. Raising my rifle like I have seen the soldiers doing I pull the trigger and my shot miss. "Don't stop shooting" Dominic yells at me. More shots leave my rifle and I am greeted by the notification box this time

We begin walking into the forest shooting as we go and soon the whole forest is filled with sounds of people crying out from wounds before they are put down. Walking back to where the tanks I see one of the tank officers taunting a young soldier into shooting the one of the soldiers that surrendered.
"Shoot him Eric or so help me I will shoot you" the officer yells as he presses a pistol into the chest of the young soldier. "I can't do this" Eric cries as he lets the pistol drop to the ground. "You're going to need a better gunman John" another tank officer yells as he jumps down from his tank.
"Let me apply for the post" I say as I walk up to John. "Who the heck are you" John yells at me. "Rifleman Hector, sir" I reply with a salute. "put your hand down boy, know how to load a tank gun" he asks me.| no but I can shoot and I can learn how to load up the gun" I reply honestly. "at least that's better than your current gunner" the other officer laughs.
"Well what are you waiting for shoot him" john says as he points at the captive "what about me" Eric asks. "You've been demoted to infantry" John replied.
Raising my rifle I point it at the man and pull the trigger with that another notification pops up
