Chapter 1 - Calamity unbeknowst to all

Chapter 1 - Calamity unbeknowst to all

Well, this sure is fun.

Standing around, doing nothing.

I wish I could spend my whole life doing this.

Being a stationary glowing rock, in an oversized puddle.

That being said, not everything about my current situation is literally the worst thing ever.

Despite being unable to move, I somehow managed to look around in a complete circle! It’s as though my whole body is a giant eye, which is quite useful when one wants to observe their surroundings.

When I woke up, I had no memories of how I came to be, or where I even was. I did, however, somehow know what my purpose in this world would be: To create a city. This information is, for some reason, ever present in the back of my mind.

My detailed observations and knowledgeable mind lead me to the definite conclusion that I currently am located on a lake.

On a tiny island in the middle of said lake, to be exact. I would not even call it an island, as its diameter is but a meter in length. Some rocks and sand adorn the surface, whilst the edges gradually lead into the shadowy blue water.

At the edges of the lake, trees as far a the eye can see, stretch in every direction. Tall, with long branches, they stand, solitary due to their massive sizes. In between these monstrosities, a thick underbrush covers the fertile earth.

‘Well, it seems fertile enough. Not that I would know though.’ I hum to myself, whilst pondering on how to proceed from this situation. I have no control over anything other than my vision, I’m on a tiny island and I’m a fucking rock.

Also, the wait for something to happen is killing me! I’m pretty sure I cannot take this boredom much longer. I’ll turn insane before I’m able to observe even a hint of motion around me. Not even the trees move with the wind, and it’s not like I can look at the positioning of either of those two suns to tell the time, seriously who knows how that stuff works?

..

It’s been at least a few weeks now, hasn’t it? My sense of time surely is warped due to the massive amounts of time that have passed.

Accomplishment!

You have stood in the exact same place for 30 minutes, not moving an inch.

You have earned 0 points for this action!

Surely the shock of being unable to move has altered my perception of time and reality!

Yeah, that’s the only possible explanation.

...

Having been rudely startled out of his slumbering thoughts, the monolith’s mind wandered over his available choices.

‘Well, no use in worrying about the possible degradation of my mind. let’s try some more things. I mean, what options d-’

‘Finally, some useful information! Let’s be methodical about this, and not lose ourselves in all these lovely possibilities.’ It declared into the emptiness of its mind.

‘First, self assessment. How am I doing on this fine day?’

‘It appears as though I do not have a name. How did this happen? Well, what use is a name anyway, not like I would address myself in my own mind. That’d be silly and slightly insane.’

Besides this glaring issue, it noticed that it seemed to be generating points way too slowly. Waiting a whole year for a single point would be ludicrous.

‘What are these points even used for..?’

Dungeon Points

Dungeon Points are a representation of achievement of the owner. It is not real currency, but can be used as such in different sectors of the menu. It is passively generated through the size of the domain, but growth of the domain is not highly correlated with the passive increase.

Active generation of Dungeon Points in done through accomplishing feats, killing foes or fulfilling one's purpose.

‘Ah, wonderful job, me!’ the monolith praised in an excited manner. It fairly quickly realised, still content with its achievements thusfar, that it required a plan. Casually spending precious points would only lead to years of boredom.

‘It seems as though my domain needs to be increased before I actually am able to do anything, and by increasing it, my point generation also increases! So obviously I put all my points in domain increase.’ the marginally smug monolith concluded.

Domain increased!

You have spent 100 Dungeon Points to grow your domain proximodistally.

Your domain now entails a diameter of 5 kilometers.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

Your domain now entails a circumference of 16 kilometers.

Your domain now entails a volume of 262 cubic kilometers.

Your domain now generates 1 Dungeon Point every 7 days.

‘Who cares about the size, I want to see it with my own eye!’

As soon as this thought came to mind, the outlines of a grey sphere appeared around the island. The edges reached about halfway to the mainland, which boggled the stone's mind.

The lake was tremendously large.

Accomplishment!

You have increased grown your domain and spent all your starting points in the process!

For taking such reckless and existence-endangering actions, you have unlocked the skill Recycling.

This skill will allow you to swap any non-organic object, which is not of Abundant quality, in your domain for dungeon points.

‘Now, that is indeed very usefu-’

Warning!

A significant portion of water has been detected in your domain.

You have been alerted since you are not a Water Dungeon.

Do you want to Recycle this excess of water?

Yes / No

If the monolith would have had a face, the world’s biggest frown would have adorned it.

‘These interuptions are beyond rude. One cannot even be at peace in their own mind!’

After mentally mumbling for quite some time, a figurative lightning bolt struck its mind, leading to an epiphany.

‘If I use that skill to swap all this water for points, I can grow my domain even more, which gives me more water to swap. This is an endless cycle of points for me!’

Recycling water and growing domain indefinitely.

‘Such a useful option, I don’t even have to do anything manually!’

Just as it voiced this thought, the entirety of the lake disappeared. All the water was gone, leaving the island in the middle of a desolate canyon. The lake ran much deeper than the initial observation had lead it to believe, as the lowest point seemed to be approximately a kilometer below the surface.

As the mental eye of the monolith focused on the bottom of said dried lake, it couldn’t help but notice the massive creature laying at the bottom, helplessly flailing its many limbs. The countless tentacles were protected by numerous silvery scales, dripping with a slimy substance. The tentacles conncected all together at the enormous head, which sported three yellow eyes, darting around in panic.

In its dying throes, a monstrous bellow escaped its gargantuan mouth, full of spiky teeth. Oddly enough, not a single animal appeared in the nearby surroundings to flee.

‘Probably because this squishy monstrosity ate them all.’ the monolith smirked, happy to not be anywhere near the beast. Definitely not frightened by the unnatural appearance.

Then, as if giving up on life, the animal stopped moving.

Accomplishment!

You have indirectly slain a Mythical being, Ennea of the Okt.

Since the being has died within your domain, you will now be able to summon it as one of your guardians.

You also gain 100 Dungeon Points.

Surprise overtook its mind, as the monolith wordlessly exclaimed its excitement. However, its amazement of the possibility to have a minion as large and monstrous as that, it quickly navigated the menu to the Guardian section in the Physical Creation section, ignoring all other options in the menu.

Dungeon Guardian Options Random Common Guardian [100 Dungeon Points] Random Uncommon Guardian [200 Dungeon Points] Random Abnormal Guardian [Required: 500 Dungeon Points] Random Rare Guardian [Required: 1000 Dungeon Points] Random Epic Guardian [Required: 2000 Dungeon Points] Random Fabled Guardian [Required: 4000 Dungeon Points] Ennea of the Okt (Mythical) [Required: 9000 Dungeon Points]

‘Goodness me, that’s quite a long way from now. I guess I’m not getting my own personal sea-monstrosity anytime soon.’ it pondered, before acknowledging the other flashing screen.

You have grown your domain via Recycling.

By doing this, you have gained 160 Dungeon Points and spent 120 Dungeon Points.

Your domain now entails a diameter of 10 kilometers.

Your domain now entails a circumference of 31 kilometers.

Your domain now entails a volume of 524 cubic kilometers.

Your domain now generates 1 Dungeon Point every 24 hours.

Slightly confused by all the numbers, the monolith simply accepted the situation as reality and moved on. The fact that it had to keep addressing itself as a monolith now actually annoyed them. Also, the whole gender-thing was becoming less and less convenient, the more it came up.

However, suddenly deciding on the essence of one's being is not done heedlessly. Therefore, the only possible method of impartially deciding was to leave it up to chance. Obviously.

It decided that if the first thing that caught its eye when it turned around was the treeline, it would see itself as a male. If it saw anything else, it would go for female. Readying itself mentally for the inevitable decision, a swift turnaround followed.

Trees.

‘Why did I do this when there’s giant trees as far as the eye can see?’ he berated himself.

However, having already decided, there was no point in doing it over.

‘I am male!’ he declared, a hint of pride seeping through his inner voice. The next decision was much easier, since he already knew his gender.

‘I shall be the pinnacle of men, and therefore I will do no less than be a gentleman! From this point onwards, I shall be Mister..’ he looked around, as if to find the answer in his nearby surroundings, his eye finally settling on the treeline.

‘Green.’

Accomplishment!

You have decided both your gender and name!

You are now a Male Monolith City Dungeon, by the name of Mister Green.

You have earned 0 points for this action, since appointing dominant choices to gender is silly.

Frowning at the weird message, Green quickly decided to repeat his most beloved action thusfar: ignore it and accept reality.

He had not noticed before, but daylight had slowly begun to fade ever since the Recycling had been initiated. Was that his perception of time being altered again? Still speculating over the state of his sanity, he almost missed the flashing screen, while he was staring into the distance.

An unknown entity has entered your domain.

How do you wish to view this entity?
