The lesson continues.

"Now that you know that there is something in the air that we need to breathe, if you have wind affinity, you might be able to control that substance away from your enemy and become invincible no matter who your opponent is. Except if people above tier 6 could survive for long without that substance already. But you will still be invincible under tier 6 if you can choke everyone to unconsciousness in an instant. Which is still impossible"

"So what I'm saying is, the way you use your ability is the important thing. There's a saying that there are no bad magic spells, only bad magicians. So creativity and ingenuity is also an important aspect to have as a mage"

"Next is the element that I have already mentioned before, water. In a glance, water seems like the most harmless element of magic there is, but again, how you use a spell is the point. Water element is well known as a lesser light element because most things that water element can do like healing and purification, light element could do better and work faster. On the other hand, the water element might heal wounds at a slower rate but it is a steady heal that puts less burden to the patient's body. There are recommended uses for both types of healing with light element being mostly used in battle and water element being mostly used in a more relaxed situation. But well, with the rise of the church, the light element is largely promoted as the superior element and water element healer start to dwindle. Which is not my problem really”

"Sir Emilio”

"Yes, Katherine?”

"Can you elaborate more on the difference between water healing and light healing? As we are responsible for the princess’ safety, it is critical for us to learn this kind of information"

“I applaud your willingness to put your all into your duty. For your question, miss Katherine, I never have learned about any extensive research to find the difference between light element healing and water element healing and I only have experimented with it a bit before so I might be wrong, but from my observation, healing by light magic put heavy burden to the body to compensate it's fast healing. Most patients would feel voraciously hungry after being healed from a heavy wound. If that patient keeps getting wounded and gets healed again and again by light magic, well, let's just say that their body will start to fail regenerating and fall into an extremely weakened state. Of course, this problem can be mitigated by eating but humans have limits for how much and how fast they can eat. Naturally, the meat from high tiered beast or high tier plant product could help with the nutrition intake but not everyone could enjoy them”

"On the other hand, although water healing is slow, it doesn't sap the patient's strength too much. You can scrutinized this information later on”

"Oh, and while we are talking about healing magic, do you know that most living beings's bodies mostly consist of water. More than half of it actually. There are signs of terror in the three girls’ faces after hearing my theory about blood control. Well, who doesn't feel scared? If that magic really does exist, then that caster can basically control every living being like they are that person’s puppet and do whatever they like to the controlled being.

"For the nature element, please forgive me but I am also not that familiar with this element. All I can tell is that it is related with the manipulation of plants, be it the type of plants, the growth of plants, and the product from plants which is specifically, poison. I have studied one member of my army that has the nature affinity about the nature element but all my results are more about understanding plants rather than the magic itself. Perhaps, only the elves that is famous of being the child of nature could explain about nature”

"Anyway, the nature element has glaring weakness with fire but is exceptionally strong against the other 3 basic elements which give me suspicion that the nature element is the combination of water, earth, and wind element. It can heal like water element, has high versatility like earth element, and high malleability like wind element”

“That is all that I know about the nature element as there is a limit to self-study. There are still many things that I need to learn even when I'm already a tier 3 mage in my age. The study was easier for the basic elements as the references for them are abundant even when magic spell learning is a thing limited to the public. So for the other 3 advanced elements, I will also be lacking like my study in nature element”

"Next up is the advanced form of basic elements starting with metal. I'm only aware of such affinity after I witnessed my soldier tested to have that affinity. So my understanding for metal is among the least from all known elements. But as metal is a common thing in human civilization, I still managed to conclude some theories about the metal element”

Second, you can't create metal with magic as the conjured metal from magic will turn into dust after the mana stored in the spell depletes. Yeah, I know, that is too bad we can't create infinite metal with magic. And lastly, metal is simply the rarer form of earth element”

"For weakness, just like iron armor, metal is weak against elemental damage and strong against physical damage. So fire, ice, and lightning could completely ignored metal defense and deal direct damage to the metal user’s body”

“Next is the ice element. This could be said to be the advanced form of water element but in my observation, it is not a direct advanced form of water like how metal is. But it is more like the first type of advanced elements like the nature element, a compound element. After all, ice is still a basic form of water in solid state when it is frozen just like water vapor when water is boiled. All of it is still water in the end just in a different state. I could not tell which element made the compound of the ice element though, as there are no easily to understand cold inducing element like the opposite heat inducing element with fire”

“Young Milo, can I interrupt you for a bit?"

“Of course, Master. Is there anything you want to correct from my explanation?"

“No, I feel that your explanations so far are still within the scope of known rules of magic. I just want to tell you that the compound that form ice element together with water element is the darkness element”

“Darkness element?"

“Yes, darkness element. Your main affinity"

“No, teacher, what I want to ask is how can darkness element induce cold which is the main ingredient to create ice"

“Oh, you don't know?"

“As I said before, Master, aside from basic elements that can easily be found in nature, my study on other advanced and special elements are still inadequate. Especially about the darkness element that exists yet doesn't exist at the same time. It is hard to study something that I can't perceive after all. In fact, I am totally oblivious about darkness element until I was tested to have an affinity with it”

"I see, it passed my mind that you are still just starting to learn about magic. You are even better in teaching than most of the teachers in the academy which lul me even deeper in my misconception”

Anyway, about the darkness element, it is said that dark magic can be used for various evil purposes like mind control, raising the dead, curses, etc. And there is 1 peculiar spell that might be related to this ice element phenomenon that we are talking about currently. And that is the necromancers’ or rather the liches’ drain life spell. I have experienced a lich’s drain life before and it made me feel cold all over even when it was in the summer. So I thought that ice magic might be created in relation to this side of darkness magic”

"I see. So besides domination, the darkness element also has another word of power. I never think of that. I should have realized that an element is too simple to be described with only one word. And with how this new trait works, this darkness element word of power should be… [Plunder]”

"Word of power? What do you mean young Milo… Eh?”

*Isabella’s POV

I have to admit this rude man indeed could back up his boast with his achievement in magic study. And he said that it was all thanks to his own self study? As hard as it is to believe, I can only say that he is a rare genius.

And it is interesting to think that advanced elements could be created by combining basic elements. Emilio only knows 2 of the combined advanced elements but if I include the 2 special elements of light and darkness, there should be a lot of possible combinations and unknown elements ready to be found. It is kinda exciting to know that you are within an arm's reach from an unknown. Perhaps this is why he could study hard alone. Even I got motivated to learn more about the elements from listening to his explanation. But I still find him very annoying though.

… Wait, why is it so quiet now? He should be still talking to grandpa, right? Why does it suddenly become so quiet? Or rather, why does it suddenly feel so cold? No! There’s cold mist in the air?

“Why is it so cold suddenly?"

“Worry not grand daughter"

“Grandpa?”

When I turn my gaze to grandpa's direction, I see him casting something to the front. Isn't that… towards where Emilio is right now?

“Wha… what are you doing grandpa?”

“Well, rather than what I'm doing, you better ask what happened to young Milo now. Look at him"

“What happened to… Emilio"

I turn my gaze once again toward Emilio’s direction now. And there, all I see there is a bubble-like sphere and inside the sphere is filled with mist that has the color white and black patched here and there in a disorderly manner. That barrier should be grandpa's, right? Then that freezing cold feeling just now… was that caused by Emilio?

“He achieved enlightenment about his natural affinity and created a unique phenomenon related to his enlightenment. To think that a young one in his age manages to gain enlightenment easily like this. The young indeed are not to be looked down upon”

"Enlightenment? I've never heard about it. Why did I just hear about it grandpa?”

“Because enlightenment is a rare thing. No one that I know has ever even experienced one. Not even grandpa. So there's no real point telling you about it”

“I see. Did everyone gaining enlightenment let out dangerous spells unconsciously like that?”

“From the rumor that I heard, yes, they will unconsciously let out the spell closely related to what they are enlightened with. In young Milo's case here, he got enlightened with how the darkness element could cause ice. So it becomes a globe of darkness causing cold mist while he is digesting his enlightenment. Grandpa has to say that grandpa is a bit jealous that he could experience enlightenment. But then again, if grandpa managed to gain enlightenment, the result might be disastrous”

"Because grandpa is already so strong while Emilio is still weak that it creates a difference in how strong the phenomenon created?”

“That, and any improvement that grandpa needs to comprehend in order to trigger an enlightenment would need a world-shattering level of knowledge. So yeah, I imagine it would be disastrous”

“That sounds scary. How long will an enlightenment process happen?”

"To be honest, I don't know the answer to that. I never directly witnessed one happening before after all. But according to rumor, it shouldn't take longer than a quarter of a day”

"But even a quarter of a day seems very long if the phenomenon triggered is stronger than the one sir Emilio currently caused”

"That is indeed a terrifying thing to imagine grand daughter"

"Then what should we do now? Wait?”

"Hmm, Young Milo’s mage subordinates are learning in the other room. We should inform them about what happened with their lord just in case. And then, how about reviewing what you just learned?"

“Ugh, can we not have a review?"

And so, I stuck here trying to remember all of the lesson that Emilio taught us today. Still, it felt tranquil in here with the phenomenon caused by Emilio locked up in a barrier. I somehow feel entranced by the sight.

Grandpa is going to inform the mage squad about the thing happened to him. And maybe also getting some problem I need to solve in my review later. Let's not waste anymore time then and start recalling his lesson.

Let see, fire is created by burning something in the air, there are water vapor in the air so I can extract them, and wind is just air moving from one place to another…

Unknown to myself, I have actually fallen into a trance while remembering Emilio's lesson. If I can see Katherine and Kimberly's expression right now, which is utterly shocked, I should know that there are something shocking happening to me, or well, at least in my surroundings that is.

And what actually happened is that, I managed to create a basic mana control drill - elemental version for fire, water, and wind unconsciously. A ball of fire, water, and wind are floating steadily behind me.

But as a pair of dedicated retainers, they tried not

to disturb me unless something that would endanger me appears. So I keep on let myself drown in this comfortable entranced condition for some more time.
