Chapter 3

The whispers rang in my ears again as the girl thrashed the boy with her staff.

I love how she is a vampire I wonder how this will play out….

That was the clearest, the others... some wished me a merry holiday? Weird, perhaps they were speaking of my... birth? Creation? I wonder what word is best.

I sat happily as the boy took his beating, it was entertaining at the very least. While that was happening I decided to take a look about the room. There were a bunch of chairs and a large desk at the front, along with diagrams and several bookcases. The word classroom seemed appropriate, though I was sure I'd never seen one before. Closer in was my chalk circle, now devoid of power, and a book, it was very close, just outside the circle, near where the boy had been while he was... I suppose creating me, or at least calling me here.

"Where am I?" That seemed the most important question at the moment. I already knew what I was, and who I was I supposed, so where seemed the best for now.

"What?" The girl turned to look at me, taking a break in her thrashing. "Oh, my apologies, you must be quite confused. You're at the Magical Institute of Evonia. Where did my irksome junior summon you from?"

"I'm unsure, it was all bright, and a bit confusing."

"Supposed to be a conjuration, not a summoning..." The boy wheezed out.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

"Well obviously it wasn't!" The girl yelled, then swung her staff at him again, hitting him right in the nose.

"And what's the difference?" I asked sweetly, eager to milk as much information as I could from them.

"Sorry, you must not be a spellcaster? A summoning brings something from somewhere else. A conjuration creates it from the aether. Of course you can only conjure certain things, you can't make people for example, and intelligent beings are unbelievably dangerous and difficult to make properly."

I nodded along. I might have been born almost literally five minutes ago, but it made sense that making something smart was harder than making something dumb. As well as the fact that a smart thing might not like you, I certainly had no positive feelings towards the boy who made me. I didn't even really care for the girl for that matter, but she was useful, so there was no reason to be rid of her, yet.

"I see. Well, since I'm here now, can I request some clothing? I don't seem to have been summoned with any." I was at this point fairly sure that he had in fact conjured me, but admitting that seemed like an insanely bad idea.

"Oh..." The girl winced in empathetic embarrassment. "I'm so sorry, I nearly forgot." She looked down to where the boy was laying at her feet. "Kale, get your ass up and go get her something to wear!"

As the boy struggled to rise from the ground I could see the red on his face flowing down from where she'd hit him. Blood, the word came to my mind instantly. I wanted it, I wanted it more than anything. My throat burned as he tried to stand, little drops of the precious fluid leaking between his stubby fingers. AAARRRGH HE WAS WASTING IT! No, no, I needed to keep my head. I needed them to separate, and I wanted him right now, not her.

"Wait," I said as he started to turn. "He's a boy, he probably won't have anything for me will he?" I was so parched, if she would just leave...

"Yeah... you're right." The girl grabbed the boy and faced him towards the door, his back to me. I was beginning to really like her. "You," she spat. "You're going to keep an eye on the door and not look at our new friend until I can get her something to wear are you? Because if I come back and find you oogling her I'm gonna cut your balls off and feed them to you on a plate."

"Shit Shana calm down. It was a mistake, I wouldn't..."

"Cast spells the likes of which you're completely untrained in? I think you would. End up with naked girls trapped in a binding circle? Yeah, you did that too asshole. Now, I'm going to get her some clothes, and after that we're gonna have a conversation with some teachers." Kale gulped in response, it was kinda funny.

Shana turned and left, slamming the door on her way out.

"Man I hope she hurries up. I really gotta pee..."

I smiled from my spot in the circle, rising up to my feet.
