CHAPTER 6: ALPHA WOLF, AND ATTACKING THE GOBLINS
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Did you guys forget who is here with you?”
Hikivi suddenly interrupted their discussion as he clicked his tongue, and fished out a tennis ball sized, iron ball from underneath his mage robe. The three’s eyes lit up as they realised what they were looking at.
“Hikivi, is that….”
Said Titus, but was interrupted halfway by Hikivi.
“Yeah, it’s the item I said I was trying to make.” Hikivi said and placed the bomb on the rock they were using as a table. The bomb was made by making a hole in a hollow iron ball and filling it with the explosive liquid.
The hole was then sealed and a fuse was attached to it. Unlike when they used the explosive liquid in the fight with the wolf, this time, the liquid would be confined in a ball of iron, which would make the damage caused by the explosion to be increased when exploded in close range.
They had requested the blacksmith back in town to custom make these iron balls so that Hikivi could make these bombs.
Hikivi had succeeded in making the bombs a few days before they came back from hunting the wolf, but Hikivi had forgotten to tell them about it, thus they had been oblivious of it until now.
“That’s great!” Yimso exclaimed as he checked the information of the new item.
LIQUID FIRE BOMB (SMALL)
TYPE: BOMB, CONSUMABLE
GRADE: WHITE
CREATOR: HIKIVI
DESCRIPTION: A MAND MADE BOMB THAT WAS CRAFTED BY HIKIVI. THE BOMB, UPON EXPLODING, WOULD CAUSE THE FLAMMABLE LIQUID IN IT TO SPREAD OUT IN ALL DIRECTIONS. THE LIQUID STICKS TO NEARBY OBJECTS AND CONTINUES BURNING EVEN WHEN DOUSED WITH WATER.
*Note: Kind of like napalm. You know, the chemical weapon?*
Whistle
“That came out better than I thought it would.”
Yimso scratched his head and said. “And it had ‘small’ mentioned in it, do you have any bigger ones?” Titus asked. “Of course I did. I made several of them before you guys came back from your quest that day.”
Hikivi said as he took out some more bombs and placed them on the rock. They immediate checked their information, the different sizes clearly discernable.
There were exactly 12 of these bombs. 8 of them were the size of a tennis ball, while 4 were twice the size of the others. The information on them were pretty much the same, except for the size changed from ‘small’ to ‘big’ and the grade reached bronze.
“Oooh~ A bronze grade fire bomb. The bombs would have been inefficient against monsters like goblins if we were to buy them from the store. This is good stuff.”
Yimso said.
“Hey Puvi, did you bring some smoke bombs?”
“I did, but we only have 3.” Puvi said as he opened the bag on his waist, where 3 grey coloured balls were sitting, along with a few potions. “That should be enough, ha ha.” Yimso said as he laughed.
__Two days later__
At the entrance of the wolf den that was made of large boulders, two level 8 and one level 7 black wolves were resting. The other wolves seemed to be resting inside the cave.
“Okay, we are ready.”
Whispered Titus, as he gathered mana in his hand and shot a ball of fire towards the biggest wolf in sight, which was 2 metres in length.
*Whoosh, boom*
The skill hit the wolf’s body and set a part of its body on fire, making in jump up in shock. After putting out the flames on its body, the wolf glared at the source direction with red eyes.
“Now!”
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Yimso bellowed and used [Battle cry], both he and Puvi targeting a level 8 wolf each, while the level 6 juvenile wolf was bounded by chains and then hit with a wind blade, splitting it in half.
Yimso blocked the claw strike with his shield and hacked at the wolf’s body with his sword, slamming it onto the ground.
Just close by, Puvi dodged the leaping wolf and slashed the wolf with his swords, making two gaping wounds on the wolf which instantly killed it and then proceeded to throw a smoke bomb into the entrance of the wolf den.
10 seconds later, two level 6 juvenile wolves emerged, followed by a 3 and a half meter long level 10 black wolf alpha a few seconds later.
The two level 6 wolves were killed almost instantly. One died to a wind blade and whip that pulled towards the party, after which it was hacked to death.
The alpha wolf barred its teeth at the invaders and growled, enraged upon seeing that the members of its pack were dead. “Grrrrr”
BLACK WOLF ALPHA

It noticed its body suddenly grow heavy but still charged at Yimso, standing closest to it. It pounced on him and clawed ferociously at him, trying to rip off his head. But Yimso quickly reacted by blocking the attack with his shield.
Clang
Screech
Sparks flew as the claws of the wolf scratched across the shield with a screeching sound. Yimso was pushed back by a whole meter, making drag marks forming on the ground and his hands became bloody.
Just then, Titus healed Yimso with his spell and Hikivi used [Binding Chains], binding the wolf in chains just as it landed, but they knew that the chains wouldn’t hold the wolf for long.
Titus casted [Wind Blade] twice, Yimso slashed with his sword and Puvi stabbed at the wolf’s vitals with his swords, coated in poison as many times as they could before the wolf broke free of the chains 3 seconds later.
The wolf, which was now grievously wounded, grit its teeth as it struggled to remain standing.
“HAA!!”
Yimso rushed to the wolf and slashed at its head. Then Puvi, seeing the opportunity, leaped into the air and landed on the wolf, stabbing his sword into its chest, killing it.
After the alpha wolf was killed, they breathed out a sigh of relief and collected their loot. Titus casted his healing spells on them and then drank two bottles of mana potions.
They then checked their status and three of them had levelled up in this battle. Titus added both to intelligence and Hikivi did the same, bringing their intelligence stat to 13 and 12 respectively.
Both of them had their skill level increased in the fight as well. Titus’ [Wind Blade] and Hikivi’s [Binding Chains] had both reached level 2 after using them so many times.

After a while they had finished and decided to head back to camp.
On the way back, they caught a normal animal for dinner and while the meat was being cooked, the two mages were discussing something together.
“A new spell… How about a projectile attack made with compressed mana?”
Titus said to Hikivi.
“That is a good idea.” Hikivi agreed.
They continued their discussion, as they exchanged ideas, trying to create new skill. In every battle, they had to be protected by the other two as their spells, though powerful, required a casting time of at least 1 or 2 second, so they couldn’t reach to their opponents quickly.
That is why they had decided together, to create a skill with short casting time even if it was weak. They could have tried making a defence type spell like a mana barrier but they didn’t have enough mana. So, they decided to stick with attack type skills for now.
All of them went to sleep early that night because they had to carry out their attack on the goblins.
__The next day__
At dawn the next day, they all got up and set off towards the goblin den. There, they waited for the first hunting team for the day to set out.
Not long after, they saw three goblins, carrying crude weapons come out of the entrance of the cave and move further and further away. They nodded at each other and went after the group of goblins that moved away from the cave.
This was the first hunting group that set out today. The goblins would send out several goblins out in teams, in search of food. Taking out one or two teams a day, every day for a few days and then attacking the goblins in the cave was the plan they came up with.
**Three days later**
In the last 3 days, they had killed a total of 14 goblins and 5 out of the several hunting teams that had set out from the cave.
Today, they were ready to launch an attack on their den. They were currently checking the situation of the cave’s entrance. There were two archers among the goblins and 6 that wielded crude and rusty looking daggers.
“Let’s begin.”
Puvi said as he held a small fire bomb on each hand and turned towards Titus. Titus snapped his fingers and made sparks appear out of thin air, lighting the fuses on the two fire bombs.
Puvi then leaped out of the bushes and threw out the two fire bombs. One of the bombs landed between three goblins that were watching a worm crawling on the ground with great interest.
The bomb exploded, the flammable liquid that exploded out sticking to their bodies as it burned, the flames spreading as they tried to put it off with their hands. The other one hit a goblin in face the before exploding, engulfing the goblin’s head in fire.
It died a few seconds later as its lungs filled with flames.
The four other goblins that were unharmed noticed their kin suddenly catching fire and realised they were being attacked.
They immediately observed the surroundings while one of them tried putting out the flame on a goblin that was still burning with his hands, which resulted in the flames spreading to his hand. But the flames quickly died out. The four goblins stared at the flames still burning on the corpses of their kin with fear.
They had seen fire before but not one that burned but the flames they were used to seeing didn’t react in this way, so they were confused.
Rustle, rustle
As they were scratching their heads in confusion, they heard the rustle of leaves saw Yimso and the others walking out into the open space in front of the cave.
The goblins immediately recognised them as the offenders and growled at them. They growled at each other in a strange language, and three of them attacked them with their daggers as one of them stayed behind and notched an arrow, shooting it straight towards Puvi.
“Mana Bullets.”
The mages chanted as one. The three that were charging at them were suddenly hit by a continuous stream of what seemed to be solidified air.
For goblins, being hit by a few of these may not be too troublesome, but being hit by a dozen would surely kill them even if it didn’t hit their vitals. This was the [Mana Bullet] spell that they had come up with recently.
It gathers mana and compresses it, which can be fired as bullets. The three goblins fell lifelessly with a thud even before they could reach them, while the arrow was caught barehanded by Puvi before it could hit him.
The goblin archer was shocked upon seeing this. It wanted to run into the cave and warn its brethren but was sliced in half by a wind blade from Titus.
“Good work guys, that was easier than expected.” Yimso said.
“Yeah, you are right. We really expected too much from these goblins.” Puvi agreed.
“C’mon now, drink your potions and let’s get going.”
Both mages drank two mana potions each and recovered their lost mana. After they were done, they made way into the cave after lighting some torches and Puvi passed Yimso one of his old sword which was shorter and lighter than his current weapon.
