You Don’t Belong Here
He was dreaming, having a conversation with his father.
“Dad, what should I be in the future?”
“…”
“…”
“Why are you asking?”
“I don’t know”
“… Is being a farmer like me not enough for you?”
“…”
“How about a king?”
“… A king?”
“Yes, a king. Isn’t it wonderful?”
“I don’t know”
“You don’t have to work. You will be rich. You can order people around. Having many beautiful women around. Having a banquet every night. You have nothing to worry about. Isn’t that great?”
“…”
“…”
“…”
“What do you think?”

“I don’t like being around a lot of people”
“Hahaha… You don’t want to be a king, you don’t want to be a farmer”
“…”
“How about being an adventurer? Traveling around the world, meeting many people, fighting a mythical beast. Lot of people will admire you”
“… Mom will be mad. I can’t even glance at your sword. Let alone touching it”
“Hahahaha…”
“But she let brother train with you”
“Hahahahahaha… She wants you to be a scholar”
“…”
“It’s not bad, I mean, being a scholar. I heard from Grandma Theta, you are quite smart. Better than any boys your age in the village. You read all her books and even asked many questions she didn’t have an answer for it”
“…”
“…”
“I don’t want to be a scholar”
“Hahahahahaha… When I’m your age, I was beaten black and blue by your grandmother because of playing too much, but you already worrying about your future. Good, good. Listen my son… what kind of dream should you have, I don’t have the answer for that. You have to find it out yourself. You’re six and you still have a long way to go. But, remember this, whatever you want to do, whoever you want to be, you will always have my support”
“… But, what if mom still wants me to be a scholar?”
“… Er, you have to ask your mom about that”
“…”
He stared at the back of his leaving father while his mind processing what his father said just now.
He definitely doesn’t want to be a scholar as he was more attracted to the notion of becoming an adventure. A scholar was a mundane job, he thought. Cooping daily in their room, reading and writing countless scrolls, teaching brats at schools or academies. He doesn’t like that. Although Grandma Theta always glorifying her life as a teacher at the academy in the city, he felt that kind of life was severely lacking.
His dream fast-forwarded.
He remembered the day he almost died. He played too close to the periphery of the forest and didn’t realize a wild boar was lurking nearby. It charged at him like his father rushing to save his sister from falling into the ditch. It was fast and he was terrified. He tried to scream, but no sounds come out. He tried to move, but his body was stiffed. He was petrified. He could see its raging eyes as it was closer and closer and closer.
As it was a few feet more from him and ready to stab its tusk into his chest, his left leg somehow got energy out of nowhere and took a step to the side, into a hole and his body stumbled to the left. The tusk missed his chest but its body grazed his right leg and the inertia send him flying. His head struck a stone and lost consciousness.
By the time he opened his eyes again, the boar was already dead, decapitated by a man wielding a giant sword.
‘Adventurer’, he screamed in his head.
He was so excited, enough to forget the pain in his head. He tried to move his body, but unfortunately, he fell unconscious again.
While unconscious, he had another dream. His bloody hands were grabbing a hand holding a sword that was stabbed into his heart. The owner of the hand was a man who was trying with all his might to raise his injured body. That man was crying and screaming something like, why you did this, why you stabbed yourself with your sword, why did you stop me.
And he saw himself smiling as he stabbed his sword deeper. He said to that crying man,
“Brother, I’m already dying, so I will definitely fail to fuse with the will of the world. We are both Golden Immortal, but this world only fusing its will with the last Golden Immortal alive. If I don’t do this, you will surely be wasting your time, trying to heal me. Brother, let me go. I will be rooting for you from the heavens”
Then he woke up, confused.
Suddenly, he felt an excruciating pain in his head, like his brain was exploding. A numerous stream of memories began to appear, merging with his current identity. He screamed, screaming as loud as he could while clutching his head.
His mother came in, followed by his father and his siblings. While they were trying to understand his condition, an earthquake happened and the land below their feet split apart, sending everyone in the room falling into the chasm.
While falling into the chasm, he heard a grating voice, “You don’t belong here”.
That’s the last thing he remembered.
