Chapter 36: Are you Going To Be My Acolyte Yes Or No?

Chapter 36: Are you Going To Be My Acolyte Yes Or No?

Lowen searched his memories repeatedly, or to be more accurate, the leftover memories he had gained from this boy's body he had taken over. But even with these extra memories, he couldn't recall anything about something called the aftermentioned World Elixir.

Roland took one look at the blank expression on Lowen's face and knew immediately that he had once more stumped this small boy. After a moment or two, Roland felt satisfied with Lowen's blank look but decided to tease him a bit more.

"Oh, so the great and wise Lowen doesn't know about something as simple as the World Elixir, just how can that be? Haha."

Lowen couldn't understand how someone could get such immense joy out of the smallest things. Instead of having another useless argument, Lowen ignored Roland's obvious provocation and in a somber tone, he asked.

*Sigh*

"Can you just say it already?"

Seeing that Lowen wasn't taking the bait, Roland became annoyed.

(God, this brat is no fun.)

"Fine, but once I tell you, you'll understand just how pointless as well as impossible it is for you to even think about becoming a mage that way."

Roland looked at Nia and Ben and wondered if they would even understand or believe what he was about to say. Shaking his head, it didn't really matter, in the end, this information was no secret or even very useful, so he didn't even bother to shoo the two of them away.

"Hmm, the World Elixir, the World's blood. In nature, it is formed from such pure dense energy that it condenses into a liquid, dark blue in color."

Roland held up a single finger.

"One drop..... if you consume just a single drop of the World Elixir, as long as you have even an ounce of talent then you're guaranteed to be a mage."

Nia and Ben's eyes lit up like stars in the night sky. The two didn't know whether or not they had any talent whatsoever, but if they could consume just a drop of this World Elixir, didn't that mean they could become mages? The fantastical thoughts these two, brother and sister imagined, giddiness and excitement started to overwhelm them. Only Lowen seemed to hold questions. Staring at Lowen, Roland seemed to understand and continued.

"This single drop of the World Elixir is miraculous. In this world, there's almost nothing else like it. Just the amount of benefits one's body gains, even if you were somehow unable to become a mage it would still absolutely be worth it. After just one drop, any impurity that you have within your body will instantly be removed and physically your being will strengthen by 2 fold at least, your organs your senses, every aspect will increase. Even me, if I had just a single drop of the World Elixir, my injury would have already healed long ago and my powers would have returned already in full, hmph, my 5th circle might even start to form."

Roland's eyes became excited at just the thought.

"When you take the World Elixir, it connects your body with the world's magic energy. Ah, speaking on that point, when I say it connects your body with the world's magic energy, you may be thinking, but I'm not a mage and I can make golems with magic, isn't that the worlds magic energy? Well, it is but your body is not truly connected to it. You can feel it and even sense it but like a sieve, your missing so much of it that you minus well be throwing it all away. If you had a magical tool and somehow were able to conjure a spell with the limited magical energy your exposed to, let's say you could create a small fist size ball of dirt, well if you were truly connected to the world's energy, that fist-sized ball of dirt would instead be the size of a boulder and instead of dirt it would be made of granite. The difference between being truly connected and not is like the difference between the clouds above and the ground below."

Speaking up to here, Roland could tell Lowen was hooked and now Roland couldn't wait to sink Lowen's spirits but there was still a few more things to tell him first, so he continued.

"Some even believe that when your body connects with the world energy, it also connects you with the core of the planet but no one has actually been able to confirm that. After that, this powerful World Elixir, as though it has a mind of its own, then connects your soul to your mage core, completing your first circle of magic. With the completion of your first circle, you will have officially stepped into the world of magic and become a mage."

Hearing all this, Lowen was completely fine but when Roland mentioned the way to become a mage was to connect your soul to your mage core, Lowen's expression froze like a bomb just went off in his mind, he was in complete and utter shock. His thoughts began to race with excitement and anticipation and even he couldn't control how erratic his breathing became. Seeing this, Roland was simply ecstatic. He couldn't wait to dump a bucket of cold water on Lowen's hopes and dreams, forcing him into a corner where the only way for Lowen to become a mage is to accept him as master. The corners of Roland's mouth arched up into a creepy smile as though Lowen was already his but if Roland could read Lowen's thoughts right now then he would immediately spit up blood.

(That's it, that's all I need to do to in order to become a mage. To control my soul and connect it to my mage core, once I do that I will officially become a mage, just like that.)

Lowen, in order to become a wielder of Kim one of the most important steps you have to do, is to connect your mind, body, and soul. Lowen had done this in his previous life after years of hard work then after he died and took over this young child's body, he managed to become a ki wielder again within only a few minutes. To become a mage, it sounded like a cakewalk to him. Lowen could connect his soul to his mind and body at will, to connect it to his mage core, just the thought made Lowen almost hysterical with joy. He wanted to immediately test this but noticed Roland staring at him with a smug, creepy smile. Suddenly Lowen understood something.

(With that look and the way he said earlier how impossible it is to get some of the World Elixir, I can tell he's about to drop some kind of bad news, but why does that bring him such joy.)

Lowen didn't realize that the reason Roland was so happy to give bad news was that he thought that would push Lowen into a corner, forcing him to submit, maybe even beg to become his acolyte. The thought of that drove Roland almost crazy with euphoria. Lowen looked at the creepy smile of the Chief and a thought popped into his head.

(Maybe I should mess with this old fool.)

Lowen calmed down quite a bit on the inside but continued to keep that same frozen expression on his face as he listened to Roland. Even with a fake face though, Roland didn't seem to notice it.

"There's just one thing I'm forgetting to mention haha. In order to get a drop of the World Elixir, you first have to reach a World Elixir spring and to do that? Haha."

Roland cut his words there annoyingly, so Lowen asked in a fake but shaky voice.

"Is it impossible to reach a single spring? Why?"

(This brat still thinks there's hope.)

*Sigh*

Roland shook his head.

"Impossible..... no... unlikely.... absolutely. On this continent, there are 7 World Elixir Springs, unfortunately, each and every one of them have already been claimed for thousands of years. You see, within the Qiyuan continent, there are hundreds of Kingdoms and thousands of existing Clans around today and only the 7 most powerful of these Kingdoms and Clans have ownership over these 7 World Elixir Springs. Because they have control over these springs, those 7 kingdoms and clans control the continent. With those springs they can make armies of mages and so they have. Their grasp and their power over the continent is already unshakable, besides three places on the continent they control it all. Not only that, every other kingdom and clan has already submitted to them long ago. The only way to get some of the World Elixir you must be a high ranking member of one of those great kingdoms or clans. So like I said before, by the time you're able to get a drop of World Elixir, you would already be 100's of years old and so strong that the World Elixir would hold no value to you. To become a mage by consuming it, with those kingdoms and clans indomitable grasp, how could you possibly get even a single drop from their springs?"

Lowen suddenly understood why Roland said it was pointless. If he wanted to become a mage, he would need to be a high ranking authority in one of those 7 powerhouses but that was simply an impossibility at this point. The other way would be to become strong enough that those 7 powerhouses recognized his strength and at that point, there'd be no reason or very little need to consume it. Lowen's goal wasn't to become strong 100's of years later but as quickly as possible. Looking at Roland, Lowen continued to use a false expression as he stared at Roland in distraught.

"How can this be, how can this be the only way to become a mage, is there truly no other way?"

Lowen looked up at Roland as though he wanted to cry, seeing this, Roland was filled with excitement. All he could think about was how this dumb kid was soon to be his loyal little follower. Roland couldn't wait to see the look on Lowen's face as he puts out a ray of hope, in that way he would quickly ensnare Lowen, making him his acolyte that would always say yes master this or yes master that. Nia and Ben were looking over at Lowen with sad faces, they felt how devastated Lowen was and only wanted to give him a hug. Roland, on the other hand, couldn't wait anymore but still tried to play it cool like a caring yet inspiring wise mage. Reaching out a hand to the seemingly saddened Lowen, he said.

"Lowen, it's ok, there is still another way. If you become my acolyte then I can make you a mage within the day, possibly even within an hour. Just take my hand and agree to accept me as your master and I'll..."

Before Roland could finish Lowen interrupted him.

"How, are you saying you're actually capable of making me a mage without the World Elixir?"

Roland was slightly annoyed that he was interrupted and didn't get to finish his passionate speech but swept that away in his mind, instead he wore a fake bright smile and explained as a good teacher would.

"Haha, it's simple really, remember I said you needed 4 things in order to become a mage, right. You need talent, comprehension, elemental affinity and luck. you've already fully understood the earth absorption technique, so you clearly have enough comprehension of the earth element. Since you already can absorb and use earth elemental energy, I see you have a natural affinity with it and you're able to control 10 golems at once. Yes, you may not be able to control them individually but to control 10 at once the very first time you animate them, if this isn't talent then my eyes are those of a blind old man; Finally, luck."

Roland looked over both shoulders before putting his hand on the other side of his mouth as he whispered.

"Hehe, when it comes to luck, that only matters when you're doing this from little to no understanding of magic and by yourself, of course, someone like that would need luck, thankfully though you have me."

Lowen's expression changed from sadness to one of delight, he looked at Roland and said.

"So you're saying that I'm talented and smart."

Roland looked at Lowen nodding his head reluctantly, he agreed.

"Really, you really think so, what else do you think of me?"

Roland was suddenly put on the spot, he quickly tried to throw some compliments.

"Uh uh uh, you're also, um, strong, yea oh yea and you're incredibly quick too."

Lowen's face grew brighter and brighter as he shouted.

"Really? What else?"

Roland began to scramble even more.

"Um uh, your mind is very sharp and talented, so talented."

Lowen's face twisted in annoyance.

"You already said talented, are you even serious, do you really want to be my teacher?"

Roland was starting to get pissed.

(This smelly brat, he's always pushing it.)

Roland kept that same fake smile, albeit with a few veins popping out on his forehead. As he tried to contain his anger he said.

"I do want to be your teacher, I'm very serious, so will you be my acolyte?"

Lowen started to squirm a little bashfully as though he were being asked out. The sight immediately disgusted Roland, still, he maintained a calm bright smile as Lowen finally said the words he wanted to hear.

"I think this might be acceptable."

Lowen put out his hand for a handshake to seal the deal. Roland's smile got wider and wider, almost transforming into an evil grin. As soon as he shook Lowen's hand, the agreement would be final and binding. He would then be the master and Lowen his worm of an apprentice. Putting his hand forward, Roland reached for Lowen's with glee in his heart. Just as he was about to grab Lowen's hand for a shake, something completely unexpected happened. With a quick movement, Lowen suddenly took his hand back, looking at Roland, Lowen grinned like a poisonous snake and at this point, Roland could have sworn he heard the hissing of the said-snakes tongue when Lowen said.

"Nah, just kidding."
