A boy running around his room with his blanket on as a makeshift cape. Jumping from his bed to pretend as if he was gliding from the tallest building. All of this is fun but he wants to experience the real deal. He looks over to his Batman comic then to his window seeing the night sky. He looks closely at Batman wanting to imitate his suit and he begins looking around his room for anything black. He even finds a pair of black underwear to wear over his pants. He grabs a WWE belt before sneaking into his parents room while they sleep. He sneaks in slowly avoiding any creeks on the floor grabbing his fathers plague doctor mask to hide his identity.
As he begins to run towards the door he slips on his blanket, sliding across the room hitting his head on the door. He picks himself back up, rubbing his head as he realizes his blanket is too big. He goes to his laundry room digging through the dirty towel to pick the black one to wear. Now he is ready to make haste into the night to stop any crimes.
“I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Kevin Conrad!” He shouts at his mirror admiring his costume but Kevin soon realizes he can’t just shout his name to the bad guys he will need a secret Identity. He looks deeply in the mirror trying to think of a cool name that will match him.
“I got it! Since my mask looks like a bird I’ll just go by the Crow.” He gets a big smile feeling proud of coming up with a name. He now heads out into the night to stop any crime that’s afoot. In his scouting, he finds a four piece box of Popeye chicken on the sidewalk next to 7/11.
“It seems someone left perfectly good food behind” Kevin grabs the box of Popeyes grabbing one of the pieces.
“It still seems edible and my mama always told me to never waste food” He takes a bite off the Popeye. Devouring everything including the bone to make sure nothing is wasted.
“That’s pretty go-Blegh” Kevin wipes his mouth after puking all over the floor. Chest pain and headache soon follow for only a second as it disappears, confusing Kevin on what happened.
“Why is it red? I didn’t eat anything red?” Kevin continues his patrol through the city until eventually. He got lost in Grape St next to a buffet and supply store. He has no idea where home is now and begins retracing his steps back in hopes he can remember where to go from there. That’s when he hears glass breaking and when he looks over he sees a group of thieves in front of a best buy. The group of thieves takes the shopping carts through the broken window. Grabbing laptops, computers, and consoles, putting them in carts to take to the truck they stole. As they bring out the carts full of loot, they hear a child scream out to them from the roof. They look up and see Kevin standing on the rooftops, holding his cape.
"Fear me evil-doers!" Kevin yells looking down at all of the thieves. His heart begins racing with excitement as he begins living his fantasy.
"Moxie!" He shouts with a big grin clearly enjoying being a hero for the first time as if he was a star with the thieves as the audience. The thieves stare, confused as to why the kid is up there with a dumb outfit.
"Hey, kid! You should get down from there!" Thief 1# shouts in concern.
"WHAAAAAT!"
"Get down from there!"
"WHAAAAAAAT!"
"I SAID GET DOWN FROM THERE!"
"My name!?" Kevin has forgotten the name he thought of.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
"NO NOT YOUR NAME!" Thief 1# begins coughing from all his shouting. Yet what he said went in one ear and out the other as Kevin thinks back to the beginning of the day. The light bulb flickers over his head as he finally gets it.
"I am the Crow!" He lifts his cape like a bird of the night sky. It was as if he stood over a gargoyle on a sky skyscraper. It's as if he is the watcher of the city, guarding everyone. The thieves just stare confused as all they see is a kid standing with his hands on his hip and cape slapping his face. The Thieves looked at each other, concerned for this kid. Yet Kevin thinks that they are all unimpressed with his name. The disappointment hits him right in the guts as it feels like the corner of his mouth got tied to a dumbbell.
“HEY KID ARE YOU GONNA CRY!?” ask Thief 2#
“YOU sniff GUYS DON’T LIKE MY NAME!”
“HOLD ON KID IF YOU WANT TO TALK WHY DON’T YOU COME DOWN AND CHAT!” Thief 2# exclaims. Kevin sniffles as he climbs down the ladder to the thieves.
“Kid, what are you doing here so late at night?” Thief 3# ask
“I sniff wanted to be a superhero.” The thieves look at each other scratching their head.
“Well how about we help you come up with a name” Thief 4# squats to Kevin eye level.
“You will” Kevin looks at him sniffling but not crying anymore.
“Superheroes usually name themselves after their costume, power, or whatever gave them their power.” Thief 4# says
“Well. My powers is never getting hurt”
“So maybe a name like Invincible could work or maybe something like Immortal boy” Thief 5 says
“Well Invincible is a name of a comic character so I guess Immortal boy could work.” Kevin looks at all the thieves
“What’s the name of your group?” The thieves look at each other as they never even bothered to think of a group name.
“You can call us the T gang for Tim, Tom, Tam, Tum, Tem” Tem says with everyone else looking in disapproval of the name. Kevin wipes his face before getting his enthusiasm back.
“Alright T gang I’m gonna stop you” Kevin runs back on the roof to restart his intro.
“Fear me evil doers as I am IMMORTAL BOY!” The T gang all clap making Kevin really happy.
"I do not run from the face of evil!" The boy grabs the end corner of his cape and bends his knees.
“Wait is he gonna jump?” Tom says as Kevin with his heart beating, jumps in the air like a bird with the moonlight shining behind him. Yet his wings fail him as he will learn the hard way a blanket can't glide. Kevin screams as the force of gravity plunges him down the air landing head first. He splats on the concrete as the thieves watch in horror. It felt like minutes had passed for the thieves as their hearts felt like it would explode in horror
"Holy cuss! What the cuss!" Tam screams in the moment of realization for all the thieves. Thief 2# begins puking on the pavement looking at the blood leaking through the mask.
"What do we do? We can't just leave this dead kid here." Tim says with panic as he moves in circles not knowing what to do.
"LISTEN!" Tum shouts as he attempts to calm them down
"We have to get out of here! If the cops come and see this, they'll blame us for murder!" The other thieves are seemingly not paying attention, just staring past him at the boy. Tom turns around, his eyes go wide as sweat begins to drop. The boy's body slowly gets up, with blood dripping down the mask dripping all over his shirt as his shiny belt, dimmed by blood. Slowly his mask slips off, revealing half his face destroyed, loose skin poking out. One eye is hanging while the other is bloodshot with a shard of glass, with his jaw attached to a piece of flesh. The loose skin begins wiggling, the sound of flesh squishing around. The glass slowly pops out as his bent nose contorts into place.
"AAAAAH" All the Thieves scream simultaneously. They run away, leaving the truck and all the Best Buy items.
"OOOOOOW!" Kevin's jaw snapped back into place, allowing the boy to yell out all the pain. Luckily for him, the worst part of the pain passed when he couldn't scream or cry. He looks down at his costume, which was once all inspiring to him, now covered in blood.
"I shouldn't have trusted Batman." He pouts as he sadly leaves from another failed attempt at heroics, but he won't give up. This was only a minor setback. So he returns home through his window extremely exhausted even though he was only out for an hour of hero work.
