Chapter 4 - The Fiancé
After a few minutes, we both settled down and separated.
“How blessed I am, to have such a forgiving son!”
Father was ecstatic, he was grinning ear to ear and patting me on the back.
“Ah! How unforgivable! We must establish our relationship one step at a time! You’ll have to forgive your father Jin, it seems I’m being rather impatient”
“Don’t mind it”
Even though I can tell I’m really happy as well, I’m just smirking a bit. I’m not even sure if it’s noticeable… Jin has suppressed his feelings a lot until now.
“Hmm. I have an idea! Although I’ll be busy with work all day again, I’ll make some time for dinner! Would you like to have dinner with me tonight Jin?”
He looked like a big kid with that grin on his face.
“Certainly”
Somehow his grin got even bigger.
Oi oi, if you grin so much I think your mouth’s going to fall off.
“Excellent! I will arrange it with the Prime Minister. Have a good day at school! Make lots of friends!”
He patted me on the head. How old does he think I am?
…
I’m now in a horse-drawn carriage with Mari. I had mostly forgotten, but this world is set in medieval times.
Hmmm. Even though I turned into an ikemen, it appears I can no longer go on the internet...
I’m starting to wish I never came to this world…
“Jin-Sama, I know you aren’t particularly fond of you fiancé, but she’s a good girl you know? You should try and get along”
Ah, it appears Mari mistook my depression about not having internet for depression about having to go and see my fiancé.
I cheered up immediately.
Ohhhh! That’s right! We’re currently heading to my fiancé’s house to pick her up to take her to the academy!
Ohmygod. Will she be as cute in person?!
Oh god, I’m getting nervous. What if she hates me? Ah, I have to make a good first impression.
Kaede Yamahara. Aside from the trap…. She was the reason I bought the game in the first place.
An incredible Bishoujo with silver hair and bright blue eyes. She’s rather petite, but she’s a very elegant and kind girl who goes out of her way to help others.
But that idiot Jin just thought of her as a nuisance. He thought that she was vying for his position and didn’t actually like him. Oh, how very wrong he was.
It was abundantly clear that Kaede was head over heels for Jin. She was constantly worrying about him and always thought of him before herself.
It was pretty unclear why she liked him, he was always acted cold and distant towards her. Yet Kaede seemed like she didn’t even notice.
Ooooo, that bastard Jin. He’s so lucky! Why can’t I have an amazing fiancé like that?
“Jin-Sama, please be kind to her, she really does love you”
Mari says with a concerned face.
…
Wait….
That’s right!! I’m Jin now!
Ohmygod, we’ve arrived outside her house. No time to be surprised at its enormity. I live in a god damn castle now after all.
Oh god, what do I do? What do I say? What if she hates me?
A maid approaches the carriage…
I don’t see her…
DON’T TELL ME SHE WANTS TO CANCEL THE ENGAGEMENT?!
Oh no! What am I going do…?

Oh…… she’s right there. She’s a bit short, so I didn’t see her.
She enters the carriage, her long silver hair sparkles in the sunlight.
She sits next to me, back straight, finger interweaved, legs crossed. Very ladylike.
Her maid sits next to Mari across from us.
“Good morning, Jin-Sama”
“Good Morning”
Ah! I can’t do it! She’s too cute! I can’t think of anything to say!
Her maid appears to be sending me a death stare though…
“How was your morning so far?”
She asked, trying to spark a conversation.
“Fine”
Dammit Jin! Speak more! Speak! Speak! SPEAK!!!
“I spoke with my father before I left”
Everyone in the carriage seems shocked by my sudden admission.
Was that alright?
I’m having a normal conversation right?
She blanked for a bit, but Kaede smiles at my admission.
Ohmygod, she’s so cute.
“Is that so? What did you speak about?”
I’m not sure how to put this…
He told me I could break off our engagement? No, no, of course I can’t say that.
He told me my eyes reminded him of my dead mothers? Nope, that’s no good either.
I don’t want to dampen the mood by being too serious.
“We promised to have dinner together this evening”
Yes! Good answer!
Kaede appears confused.
“Um, but as you know, students are required to stay in the dormitories. We won’t be able to visit home until the first semester expires”
...
Oh no. Father will think I abandoned him.
Our relationship will end before it even began.
My stomach starts doing somersaults again.
What do I do…?
I feel a hand on my shoulder. I look up to see Kaede smiling concernedly at me.
“It will be alright Jin-Sama. I’m sure his majesty will understand, have Mari send a notice that you’ll be unable to attend dinner with him because you have to stay in the dormitories and promise to have dinner with him as soon as you’re able”
Ah, yea, that sounds good. I’m sure father will understand. It’s not in my power to overturn the ancient decision of the royal academy after all.
I nod.
“Mari, could you do that?”
“Absolutely, your highness”
Oh, that’s right. Mari is actually an incredibly capable maid, but since she’s known me for so long, when it’s just the two of us, she relaxes a bit.
Now that we’re in front of others, her capable side is showing.
“Jin-Sama…”
“You can just call me Jin”
This is the first time I’ve seen her look slightly un-ladylike. Her jaw is drooping.
“We are engaged after all, right Kaede?”
“K…Kaede…”
She’s mumbling to herself.
Her cheeks are blushing and she’s avoiding eye contact.
Cute…
Hmmm, is it time to assert my ikemen pride?
I press my hand to her forehead.
“Are you alright Kaede? Your face is red.”
Her eyes open wide and he jaw droops again.
But she doesn’t remove my hand. Instead, she looks down at the hem of her uniform’s skirt and fiddles with it.
“I….I’m fine……Jin…hehe”
She giggles to herself cutely.
Her maid looks like she’s staring a hole through my head though…
