Prologue - The World and Origins

Prologue - The World and Origins

The Origin story of our world goes a little something like this:

Long ago, the universe was an empty void, stretching out into the infinite. After either an eternity or an instant of there being nothing in this realm, a group of seemingly all-powerful entities arrived. We have come to call these entities "the Great Architects", as they are the designers and engineers that crafted the whole of our reality as we know it.

The Great Architects spent their time developing the laws of the worlds and populating the void with various planets and stars. Eventually they decided on a particular world to populate with life. We now call this world Sanzeff, or more familiarly... home.

After crafting the world itself and the many life forms on it, they continued to work on the laws and logic that governed over the world and reality as a whole. They crafted countless emergent possibilities of cause and effect tied to the natural process of things, and then they decided to overlay this material plane of natural process with several others.

The first new addition was the spiritual plane, a realm existing on a higher frequency of existence that still closely overlaps the material plane. The second would be a realm set to be at an even higher dimensional frequency, known as the divine plane. This higher dimensional layer of the world would be populated with a pantheon of entities that would serve to govern over the fantastical systems that elevated the material plane from a place of mundane processes, to one of magic and wonder. A whole host of nuanced magical systems were thus developed by the Architects, and a new Divine entity was created to serve as the operator and personal embodiment of each respective system as they were developed.

The most notable of these entities, that quickly became the most widely known amongst the sapient mortals of the lower plane, would be the ones known as the Divine Origins. These entities are a group of Divines who serve as the personifications and sources of the primary elemental Aspects of Mana that we see permeating every inch of the world today. Each Divine Origin was made to govern over two symbolically opposed conceptual elements in the hopes of ensuring harmony and balance among the phenomena that would manifest from them.

Each Origin, the embodiment of two elements:

> - Lambrus of Light and Shadow.

> - Osdarch of Chaos and Order.

> - Teloc of Space and Time.

These 6 Divines hold dominion over the usage and manifestation of the 12 Aspects of elemental Mana that are known as the "Primary" Aspects. Their Mana constantly spreads out and suffuses the world via the many World Trees scattered throughout the various regions and continents around the planet, becoming the ambient Mana that pools together near respectively similar physical elements and adds that extra layer of mystery and power to the properties of the mundane.

Pleased with their work, the Great Architects left monuments of knowledge and relics of power hidden throughout the world as potential countermeasures to be used in the event of a great divergence from the balance of life and nature that they'd crafted, and then they left. Thus with the departure of the Great Architects, the Divines themselves became the preeminent authorities over maintaining the logic of the world and abiding by the collective will of the Architects.

For many millennia the world continued to turn in relative peace as the natural course of things continued to progress in the ways that the Architects had hoped, but just as so many other cycles of life consist of ups and downs, the peace of this era would not last. One day, without warning, a great catastrophe fell upon the world. Although no one alive today knows the true nature of this disaster, we do know that much of the world's population was snuffed out and the few survivors of each mortal race were forced to struggle and adapt in order to establish themselves anew in the broken ruins of the world.

The greatest change of all seemed to be that at some point during the mysterious calamity that occurred, the Divine Origin of Space and Time disappeared. Those capable of communing with the Divines have tried countless times to inquire about the events of that time period and the whereabouts or status of the Divine Origin Teloc, but none have been given proper answers regarding these topics.

As several centuries more have passed since the strange events of that time, the world at large seems to have recovered, and most people seem to be thriving and enjoying an era of relative peace. Wars will still break out between competing factions, races, and nations from time to time, but it's been said that the squabbles of mortals can be likened to the tantrums of children in the face of the destruction and death that was so common place in the times immediately after the great disaster.

And so we find ourselves near the end of this era of peace and prosperity, here in the present moment, impatiently waiting with our collective breaths held as we sense the beginning of a brand new era of conflict and disaster looming over the horizon. One can only guess the struggles and hardships that fate has in store for us this time. I can hardly wait.
