Chapter 21: Men In Black

It’s Wednesday, January 29th, 3pm.

The men are discussing a plot to steal the Mona Lisa in the room of their hotel.

“The Mona Lisa is encased in bullet proof glass. Anyways good news for us… the Louvre Museum is hiring janitors. I was thinking both of you could apply and if both of you make it in there, that would increase our odds of stealing the painting.”

“Do you want me to drink the I.D. Tech?” Thomas says.

“There’s no need to do that… I still have no way of knowing how to take it out of your system once ingested. I think Michael will be enough. Your main role will be to help him. Anyways I’ll get to work making fake resumes for the both of you. The references which they will ask for will end up directed to me. I’ll be on the phone with them saying ‘yes you worked for me and you were a good employee’.”

After 5 hours, James has created a couple of resumes that look professional. It lists their aliases and former companies they worked for as well as their roles within these companies.

“So guys here you go. I want you to read it over and rehearse what you will be saying to the interviewer. You will need to come up with more information than is described on the resumes.”

Michael is reading it over. His alias is Jacob Caldwell. He worked for BSB Enterprises, Magic Maintenance Cleaning, and BigDComics.

Thomas is reading the resume as well. His alias is Bob Jones. He worked for Moorely Business Solutions, McDonalds, and Total Janitorial Services.

“I’ve made sure to give you guys experience in cleaning to make sure you guys have the credentials to be able to be accepted more easily,” James says.

“Makes sense to me… but none of us has ever cleaned before.”

“It doesn’t take much effort to mop floors… I’m sure you guys will learn quickly.”

“I’m a messy person,” Michael says.

“Don’t worry I’m sure you can do it.”

*Friday, January 31th, 1pm*

“So Jacob, it says here you have cleaning experience having worked for Magic Maintenance. Can you describe what you did in more detail,” the interviewer says.

“Sure. Yes I was mostly cleaning off tables in a food court. But I also mopped the floors.”

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

“Do you have experience using a floor polisher?”

“No, but I am willing to learn,” Michael says in an enthusiastic yet forced manner.

“Okay that’s great. So anyway what hours are you available to work?”

“I’m able to work any hours.”

“Okay that’s very good. Currently we are hiring for the night shift. Are you fine with this?”

“Yes I am. I’m actually an evening person anyways,” Michael says when in reality he knows he’s more of a morning person.

“Okay. I will call you if we’ve decided to go through with this. Thanks for applying.”

“Thanks for allowing me the privilege of having this interview. Thanks for your time.”

Michael has just finished his interview. The next one to be interviewed are some random people, and then after that Thomas will be the next one to step up to the plate.

It’s finally Thomas’ turn. He steps into the interviewer’s office.

“Hello.”

“Hey.”

“So Bob, I was reading your resume and I noticed you worked for Total. Can you talk about that a bit?”

“Sure. At total I mostly swept floors, took out garbage, mopped a little bit, and various other jobs not related to cleaning.”

“Awesome. Well I was looking at your hobbies. It says you like fishing. Same with me actually.”

“That’s great. Yeah I fished a lot in Canada for salmon and brown trout.”

“Well that’s awesome. So anyways what hours are you available to work?”

“I’m able to work whatever hours suits you.”

“Okay that’s good cause we’re hiring for the night shift. Does this sound good?”

“Yes. That sounds good.”

“Okay so anyway we’ll give you a call if we want to pursue your application further.”

“Okay thank you for your time and this opportunity.”

Michael is waiting outside the Louvre Museum. Thomas joins him.

“So how’d your interview go?” Michael says to Thomas.

“Well I thought it went very well. If I don’t get the job I’d be really surprised.”

“Good work Michael,” James says in Michael’s head. “You guys can make your way back to the hotel.”

*Monday, February 3rd, 10am*

Michael receives a call from the interviewer.

“Hello Jacob. It’s me Kelly from the Louvre. Do you have a moment to talk”

“Yes. Go ahead.”

“So we’ve decided to accept your application. Earliest you can start working is tomorrow. Does this sound good?”

“Yes that’s awesome. I am definitely ready for this.”

“Okay. We require that you wear black dress attire and black shoes.”

“Sounds good to me.”

“Okay looking forward to seeing you tomorrow… Bye.”

A half hour later, Thomas’ phone rings. It’s the interviewer. Long story short, he also has been accepted and will start working tomorrow.

“So anyway, I’m not going to run the ocular vision mode more than 2 hours at a time. I don’t want to risk you going blind Michael.”

“Sounds good. Is the vision loss permanent?”

“I have no idea… I actually feel sorry for what happened to Philip.”

*Tuesday, February 4th, 7am*

Michael and Thomas arrive at work among a group of janitors. Both men are wearing nothing but black. They joke to each other and call themselves the Men In Black.

There’s 5 other janitors that Michael and Thomas have never seen before. They introduce themselves to them.

The interviewer shows up and says, “Hello everyone. You all have been accepted. Congratulations. I will give you guys a tour of the museum and where you guys will be working, along with where the janitors break room is, and custodial rooms.

The men wind up in the room with the Mona Lisa.

James turns on the ocular vision.

“So James this is the Mona Lisa. Isn’t it amazing?” Michael thinks.

“Yes. That’s what we’re here for.”
