[Prologue] Darkness

The girl opened her eyes to an abyss. She could see nothing. Hear nothing. Smell nothing. All she felt was the cold texture of chains spiraled upon her arms, legs, and her knees meeting a chilling floor.

"No," She decided.

Though she could clearly see, there was nothing to see. Though she could clearly hear, there was nothing to hear. Though she could clearly smell, there was nothing to smell. And although she could feel, only the cold hugged her.

Time seemed eternal within that space. Time seemed nonexistent as well. For day and night did not exist, she did not sleep. Instead, her mind ran with thoughts.

Why was she here? She did not know. And that confused her.

Many times she had tried to escape and each willingness ended with failure. The first. The second. The fifth. The hundredth. The ten thousandth. She had tried to escape many, many, times.

"How long have I existed, chained here?" The girl muttered to no one, resigning herself. All she knew since she became conscious was an ever consuming darkness.

And so, without her knowledge, hundreds of years silently trickled by.

She did not see light until much, much, later.
