Where to begin? I woke up in the middle of a forest, found that this world was bountiful in energy, followed a bunch of small green things to a cave and now a few of those small green things and their shaman are looking up to me.
I look down at the shaman. He wasn’t much shorter than me, but he was still quite small and disproportionate for a humanoid. Like the others, his head was large. It looks like his body shouldn’t be able to hold it up, but he remains standing nevertheless. His arms were scrawny, a fact hidden by the animal hide robes and long coloured leaves that decorate his person.
He looked at me, before speaking again.
Shaman: “It only makes sense. Your a Yswj’yjae! Of course, there is no way a human would be able to understand goblin tongue? It also explains how a human child is able to defeat a fully grown brute like Killar. That must be it, I would shudder at the thought of human offspring being this powerful. Serving a human again, I would surely die first.”
I looked at him, unable to read his face because of the tribal mask covering any expression. He’s calling me Yswj’yjae… I don’t know my own name… should I just adopt it as my own?
I guess I have to, for now at least. I have nothing else I can refer to myself as. I assume the name refers to their god, which I think is this Yswj figure. I really am lacking about knowledge right now, something I need. I need to figure out why god sent me here, I can’t do that if I know nothing about the place it sent me to.
Yswj’yjae: “Shaman, I know nothing about this world. I want you to teach me everything you know. That should be it for now.” I told him what I wanted. He looked at me, puzzled but nevertheless lead me into one of the larger rooms in the cave.
It was clean. That was the first thing I noticed. And it was decorated as well. A large animal skin rug made by stitching fur together covered the entire floor. Shifty furniture made out of the woods I saw outside lay scattered around the room in an attempt to fill the space.
The main focus of my attention was the work bench with paper, ink. It sat beside a large hole that opened up into the sky. It was covered by a mismatched thick layer of glass. This was surprising. I didn’t think they could make glass. Afterall, they haven’t even made proper clothing yet.
He pulled up a shoddy chair and presented it to me. It was the largest one in the room, rather, the only one in the room. I didn’t refuse the seat though.
Shaman: “Where should I begin Yswj’yjae? How much do you already know? How much did Yswj tell you?”
I pondered and what I should ask. The Yswj’yjae is a servant of Yswj right? It must be. I think I should continue acting like a religious figure with them, at least with the Shaman. I have a feeling that I’ll be using the small ogres for many things in the future. That also means I have to word my questions carefully as to not give away my identity as a human. Judging about what he said and those two other human women, I don’t think they are very well-liked.
Yswj’yjae: “Let's start with Yswj. How is Yswj’yjae perceived in this world? And Yswj’yjae. Explain the meaning of the word to me. I am unfamiliar.”
Shaman: “Ah yes. How silly of me. Just because you speak goblin doesn’t mean you know all of our words. You would only be speaking the god tongue with Yswj. Let me begin then. Yswj is the god of gods, as we all know. Unfortunately, Yswj and the lesser gods have been discarded by the thinking peoples of the world. The humans, dwarves, elves and beastmen all have their own heathenic representations of her. Some of them say the lesser gods and elemental spirits don’t even exist! Our faith only persists among goblin kind now. I am sorry…”
Yswj’yjae: “It’s fine. It’s to be expected. Explain Yswj’yjae to me. I have no name and I’ll be using that from now on so I should at least know what it means.”
Shaman: “Ah yes, of course! Yswj’yjae. It means servant of god.”
He stopped.
Shaman: “Ah… sorry, my human tongue emerged slightly. It means servant of Yswj, forgive me Yswj’yjae. I meant no harm.”
Yswj’yjae: “It’s fine. Continue.”
Shaman: “Yswj’yjae are the direct servants of Yswj. They do Yswj’s will. Of course, you would know what your real purpose is. This is what we mere mortals believe. I do not know when the last time a Yswj’yjae had come grace us with their presence. What is your purpose if I may be so bold to ask?”
Huh. Didn’t expect that. Purpose huh? Never really had one before. I had done evil because I had the ability to. Watching people scream and suffer gave me joy. I don’t feel like doing that anymore. God ruined that feeling. There never was a consequence for anything I did, what I did didn’t matter. Evil… it doesn’t have a purpose anymore. No… my goal.
I want to know why. Why god allows evil. Can it even understand the concept? I want to know more about god. I want to reach the heavens once again and ask it the question directly. Why?
That’s not a suitable answer here, though. What would this small ogre want to hear… oh I know!
Yswj’yjae: “For now? My purpose is to help this tribe of small ogres. I will help you grow and expand, perhaps even combat or take revenge on the humans that have tormented you for so long. At least, that is what I assume.”
Lets hope this works.
The shaman stood silently, unmoving before suddenly bursting out with a joyous laugh.
Shaman: “HAHAHA! OH! Yswj truly is merciful! A Yswj’yjae helping us grow! Take revenge on the humans! My prayers truly have been answered! Joyous day! Joyous day! I shall prepare a feast tonight!”
That worked… good. I was really putting leaps of logic together. Can’t let him go off a tangent though. I need to base a few things.
Yswj’yjae: “Wait Shaman. There is a few things you must know. Yswj had not granted me my true body, because of this, my time here is limited and my body mortal. This does not mean I am weak however. What it does mean is that I will be leading the small ogres so that they can continue on, even without me.”
Shaman: “Of course. Yswj has her reasons I’m sure, and as do you. I am simply happy Yswj has finally answered our prayers… we are not small ogres though. We are called goblins. Though, that is a human word. The goblin word for it is bigger. Ironic but true.”
Wait. They aren’t small ogres? He definitely called that big green one an ogre. What’s an ogre then?
Yswj’yjae: “What is an ogre then?”
Shaman: “Right, you would have no understanding of our terminology. Let me begin. An ogre is the name for very strong goblins. Killar, the one you had just fought is an ogre. When goblins live for a long time, their bodies rapidly change shape and they become much more powerful. They start to look more human-like as well. This trait is unique to only the goblin tribes. The human faction has lost that ability.“
Yswj’yjae: “Human faction?”
Shaman: “Ah yes. Humans, elves, dwarves and beastmen. The only races that do not gain strength through age. They have much smaller lifespans too. It was punishment from Yswj for abandoning her teachings.”
What… what are elves? Before I met these things, I didn’t even know different intelligent races existed. I need to ask him about this.
Yswj’yjae: “What are elves, dwarves and beastmen?”
Shaman: “You do not know? I suppose they had lost the way of Yswj much faster than the humans did. I’ll try and explain using the best of my knowledge. Elves are tall, skinny humans with pointy ears. They live twice as long and often inhabit the forests. They worship all the lesser gods, the spirits of nature. Everything but Yswj. They deny her existence. They are adept with a bow, their eyesight is very good but they breed much slower than humans so we don’t bother with them.”
Hmm. What does breeding have to do with race?
Shaman: “Dwarves are short fat humans. They will only reach about half the size of one. They are a little bit taller than goblins. They live in caves and mine the metals. They believe in the lesser spirits as well, but they focus on earth and fire spirits. They are good crafters. They live twice as long as humans, just like the elves. They are horrible breeders though, extremely hard to break and very loyal. Plus, the women are ugly. We don’t like them.”
Shaman: “Finally the beastmen. They have no kingdom of their own. They live in a bunch of tribes, like us goblins. They look like humans but mixed with animal traits. I haven’t seen one myself but they are the best breeders as they rely mostly on their instinct. Easy to tame as well. They are much more dangerous however and they carry grudges. That’s why we only go after humans. There are so many of them that no one cares if one or two go missing haha.”
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Again with the breeding thing. What is that about?
Yswj’yjae: “The breeding you mention… explain further, This is something I do not know.”
Shaman: “Really? You do not know? Yswj really is testing you. I am sorry Yswj’yjae, I guess even immortals have it difficult. Thankfully you have me to explain everything! We goblins don’t have female kind. Therefore we must kidnap other races to breed with in order to persist. This has larger lead to our society turning into one of raiding and therefore we steal most of our goods.”
Ah. That explains why they are so underdeveloped. Like the Shaman said. They steal what they need. They never evolved to for self-reliance because they never had that ability in the first place. They need other races to do simple things like reproduce. What a cruel fate god has given them.
Now that I’m thinkin about it, how long do goblins live compared to humans?
Yswj’yjae: “How long do goblins live?”
He looked at me and laughed. “Oh. If we aren’t killed before we evolve, probably forever. I’ve never heard of a monster dying of old age. Only death by fatality. Course, goblins die all the time. Our lusts are much too large for us to deal with, ever blood moon that need to breed explodes and every goblin searches for one to breed with. It’s a sad tale, yes. Breeders never last too long either. We can never have enough of them to sate us, eventually some of us roam outside where the other races are waiting. I’m a shaman though, and my magics protect me from the cruel effect of the blood moon. Doesn’t mean I don’t get lusty from time to time. Hehe.”
Ah, that’s why they were unable to stay secluded. This red moon sounds like a problem. Though, there are solutions to this, especially from what I gathered. They kidnap many girls and everyone is allowed to use them. The leader has priority though and can use them at any time. The others have to wait their turn. Maybe if I introduced a partner system and actually provided the breeders with decent conditions, the chance of survival would be higher? Plus, having a bunch of goblins gangrape isn’t efficient enough. Partners would allow them to produce more children and perhaps even induce Stockholm Syndrome.
How fast do pregnancies last though?
Yswj’yjae: “How long do pregnancies last?”
Shaman: “Ah yes. For us goblins, they last 1-2 weeks. This depends on the breeder. Humans and beastmen are much faster.”
1-2 weeks?! That’s insane! They can produce so many children! How long do they take to mature? Are they born mature?
Yswj’yjae: “Shaman! How quickly do goblins mature after birth?!”
Shaman: “Oh. About the same amount of time. 2 weeks. That’s the usual amount.”
Goodness. This is insane. Their populations would explode if I changed their ways. Isn’t that a good thing though? More minions to do my bidding, more people to help me scour the earth. Plus it makes me look like I’m helping them like I said I would.
For now though, they only have two human women, mentally broken and probably no longer fit to remain in the cave. I should kill them. I need to train the goblins how to control their lust.
Alright. I think I have somewhat of an understanding of what I need to do. I get up from the chair.
Shaman: “Yswj’yjae, have you heard enough?”
Yswj’yjae: “Yes. And I’m ready to give my first orders. I must address the goblins, gather them. Once they are all inside the cave, inform me and I will address them. Don’t let anyone touch the human women either. I will use them to make a show of might.”
Shaman: “Ah yes… I will give the order.”
The Shaman ran out of the room, I could see him shout something at every goblin he could find, including the Ogre. Some goblins ran out of the cave, it didn’t take long before the Shaman ran back in. Huffing and clutching his knees.
Shaman: “They… they are ready for you Yswj’yjae.” His breath was heavy. Good. This one seems loyal.
I walked out of the room, followed by the Shaman. My eyes kept wandering to the rotting pile of meat in the middle. It disgusted me tremendously. I never came back to the piles of bodies I made.
I walked up the stairs to the stone chair at the back. There, I looked upon my new servants. I could count nearly 100 goblins. 1 ogre and two human women. Good.
I turn back to the Shaman and whisper something, keeping the goblins below waiting. I’ve already intimidated them, now I need only scare them a bit more to secure their loyalty.
Yswj’yjae: “Shaman, do they understand the word goblin or should I be using the term Biggish?”
Shaman: “Ah, do not worry. Killar and I have taught them the human terms. After learning the language, hearing them call themselves Biggish was too silly for me to handle.”
Yswj’yjae: “Good, good…”
The ogre and the Shaman understand human language? Interesting. Either way, that doesn’t matter now. What matters is that I need another name. Yswj’yjae is too long. I don’t think these goblins use words longer than two syllables. Plus, I need something easier on me too.
Ah, got it.
Yjae: “I am Yjae. One of the Yswj’s Yswj’yjae. I have come from Yswj to help your peoples grow and flourish. But to do this I need you to listen to my every command without fail. Can you do this?”
The goblins below me all shook their heads yes. The ogre too. But I could tell. They didn’t nod because they trusted my words. They nodded because that was what I was looking for. The best thing to do for their survival. I need to further ingrain that though into their mind. I want them to think that things they do for me helps themselves live. To do that, I need more fear.
Yjae: “Good. For my first order, I will purify the cave. Bring the two human women here!”
The goblins and human woman looked confused. They brought them up here without question though. They looked at me, their eyes alight with that spark of hope I saw earlier. If I had compassion, I may have not done what I was about to do.
I looked at the both of them and gently put my hands on their head. They looked up at me still confused. Then, when I had confirmed that the goblins were looking, I quickly pushed some of my internal energy directly through my palms and straight into their head. The result?
Their heads exploded leaving nothing but bits of brain, fresh blood and limp bodies that kind of slumped to the floor, one of them falling off the pedestal. The ogre looked up at me, a combination of surprise, anger and fear on his face. The goblins were all cowering, trying to hide behind one and another. The shaman just started to cackle as he stood behind me, his mask covered with that slick blood.
Yjae: “There. The first step to purifying this cave has been made. Those women were sickly, corrupt and used beyond redemption. From now on, you will practice abstinence. You will learn to control your lust. As a reward for those who learn, you will be given your own personal breeder. Though, you will have to feed and care for them, no other goblin will touch your breeder."
The goblins below all had simple minds. The fear quickly disappeared and turned into a strange joy. I expected them to express lust, but no. Joy. Strange. The ogre was the only one who looked displeased about this. Nothing I can do about that though. Being taken from leader status and grouped among the rest of the goblins isn’t too great a position to be in. He might start something later if I don’t placate him now. Let’s make him feel important.
Yjae: “Killar. Come here.” I hope that was the ogre’s name. I don’t exactly know. He never told me directly.
The goblins parted the way all staring at the ogre. Looks of sympathy on their faces. His face was covered in terror. He slowly worked his way in front of the throne.
He said nothing and knelt, he started to sweat heavily.
Yjae: “You are a loyal servant of Yswj correct?”
Killar: “Yes!” He responded quickly and concisely.
Yjae: “And knowing that I am a Yswj’yjae, you will follow my every command, not out of fear but devotion correct?”
Killar: “Yes!” He was growing hurried. His voice slightly quivering.
Yjae: “Even if that meant killing yourself in her name?”
He knelt silently. His sweat pouring down his face. The goblins around him all looking on with fear or turning away.
Yjae: “Good. I will promote you to leader of the goblins. I am but in this pathetic mortal body. Despite my strength, I am still only one person. While I am here to guide you, I am but one, and you are many. Yswj gave me nothing but the task to help your tribe. She gave me no strength to rely on but her name. Therefore I must build pillars of strength upon which I can rest. You have kept this tribe alive and you will continue to do so, only this time with my guidance and protection. Do you understand?”
He looked up, dumbfounded. Hahaha, he probably thought I was going to blow up his head. Yes, the pride I saw in him is a problem but he is a useful asset. Better alive than dead.
Killar: “Yes!”
Yjae: “Good. In honor of your title and your devotion to Yswj, I will change your name to Gord as you defend the virtues that Yswj brings to the mortals.”
Gord: “Gord… thank you Yswj’yjae. I will do as you say.”
There was no big reason for that bit at the end. I just really didn’t like his name. It was very silly considering what it meant. Gord isn't much better, but its an improvement.
Ah, rambling in my head again.
Yjae: “Now, let’s REALLY begin."
