Chapter 12

“Your teacher really loves you, Nova. How can she mold a ring out of the highest quality mana stone?” My father takes a look at my presents and smiles widely from his seat around the coffee table in the Emerald Room of the South Wing, the only one of four living rooms that we use. “And to think she even gave you a protective spell on a necklace that could catch the eyes of every single lady in the world!”

“Truly, that magician Natasha Broffenberg is like no other,” my mother follows up. “Such priceless items given away without a mere thought.”

Though my mind is highly numbed to the prices of these sorts of items, as my father is known to be the greatest magician after Teacher Broffenberg and has all sorts of contacts who tend to gift items of the like, even I can tell that these items would be unobtainable through normal means. After all, the quality of mine is much higher than those offered to my father.

“Teacher Broffenberg does treat me well. She said she would recommend me for the Sorena Royal Academy.” I pick up my cup of tea and sip some mint tea steeped with lemons. “She said I would be able to attend once my tenth birthday has passed.”

Nodding, my father says, “I agree that you should attend that school, even if you are still under the minimum age limit.”

“Then will I start school after my tenth birthday has passed.”

My mother claps her hands together and smiles elatedly.“In that case, we should plan your debut for society to be your birthday party. We have no time to waste. I will begin organizing the event immediately.”

The next few days pass in a blur. My mother would take me out to various shops to try various styles of dresses, gloves, hair accessories, shoes, and more, and then after having the ones she liked custom made to be sent within a few days, she had the cooks create various desserts and had me sample them, after which she decided on decorations for the house. Meanwhile, my father would send out invitations to various families, undiscriminating between statuses. His reasoning was, “It is Papa’s belief that you should surround yourself with people who will be loyal to you. As for distinguishing between these people, that’s up to you, but if you need help, Mama and Papa will be there.”

It would be decided that the party would be held in the Mirage Ballroom, a room big enough to easily house one or two hundred people, with multiple medium sized chandeliers dotting the ceiling and mirrors reflecting the chandeliers to create the mirage of crystals suspended in the air.

In between all of the planning and outfitting that I have to do, I diligently continue to absorb and purify raw mana in the air, and within the blink of an eye, it’s the night before the party. I stare out the window, beginning to doubt all of my work. I most definitely changed the plot of that book, since now I’m not even going to go to the Royal Academy, but ever since the day I brought up my concerns to my father, he’s been investigating the usage of my blood as well as anything to do with demons and the demon world. Did I perhaps… step into an unknown plot behind the scenes of the world? I didn’t unintentionally set anything into motion… right? Me becoming a sage won't affect anything on a large scale. I have nothing to do with those people obviously working something behind the scenes, right?
