Chapter 14: Krya

“I was under the impression all countries sent their students to Grulik.” Leon said, they were currently standing at a cross road, and on the other side of the gravel path that passed for a road around here was what would appear to be students from another school.

They were dressed in a similar to the students of Grulik, but the cut and coloration of the robes was slightly different.  To be precise the robes of Grulik students were gold and red, and cut in a traditional style with long ankle length robes that had multiple layers.

The other students however were in a more, stylized robe,   the robes only went down to the top of their knees or so and was made up of a black and blue coloration.

“It is one of the premier places of study, but it does not hold a monopoly on the idea.” Lira whispered to him and leaned in closer to him. “That would be Wolfthir, it is an academy that focuses on more offensive spells and casting.”

“And our own does what? Defensive spells?”

“No, Grulik is well known for being well rounded, they teach anything and everything there, it is the only school that does that, all others focus on a certain type of magic.”

Leon nodded, and looked off toward where that waffle eating bitch of a teacher was off talking to an instructor from the Wolfthir school. “I am guessing there is no love between the school...”

“You could say that, there is a tournament every year, and each school battles it out to prove who is best.” she said. “It looks like we will have to share the hunting grounds with them.”

As she said that the two teachers walked back to their respective groups of students.

“Ok, so due to time and area constraints you will have to hunt on the same grounds as the students of Wolfthir,”  she said, much to the grumbeling of the other students. “What's more both I and Mrs. Fergul of Wolfthir feel this will be a good opportunity to learn about working with others even if they are not part of your faction.”

This just about caused an uproar in all the students on either side of the road, and Leon looked at Lira with a curious expression. “We are partnering up with them.”

“Understood” he simply nodded before starting to scan all the students across the road.  They all looked about the same in their matching robes, all of them except one that was.  She was currently sitting atop her familiar, which happened to be a giant white wolf with blue marks all over its fur.

She herself also looked cold, with her light blue hair and eyes she looked like an ice queen. She was not even paying attention to her surroundings as she was currently buried in a book.

He didn’t know why, but he felt she was the correct person to partner up with. Nodding to himself he grabbed Lira by the hand and dragged her across the road. “What, what are you doing?” she asked as she was pulled along behind him. The sound of everyone’s arguments and complaints evaporated like a fog once

He pulled her along with him, and stopped directly in front of the girl sitting on the wolf. It took a few seconds before she noticed that the two of them were standing there in front of her.  Slowly she lowered the book and placed it in a messanger bag she had slung over the wolf’s back.

“Introduce us.” Leon said, pulling Lira from behind his back and putting her in the spotlight for everyone to see.

“Eh? What is he doing?”

“Do they want to die?”

“Oh I have to see this.”

He could hear the murmurs of the Wolfthir students as they appraised the two people standing in front of the most feared and respected member of their student body.

“I uh-” Lira stumbled with her words as she was put on the spot.

“Speak up properly and introduce us.”

But before she could say any the girl on the wolf spoke up first.  Looking at Leon she narrowed her eyes. “What language are you speaking?”  she asked.

Leon looked at her, his lips held a soft sort of smirk on them.  “I apologize, I cannot understand anything you are saying, please direct any questions you have to Lira here.”  he gestured at the currently cowering silver haired girl he had propped up at his side.

“What did he say?”  she asked, hopping down off the back of the wolf with a large display of grace.

“He apologized for being unable to converse with you, he said if you have any questions to aks me.”  lira said in a soft voice.

“He is unable to converse with me?” the Wolfthir student said, looking towards Leon.  Now that she was on the ground he got a better look at her.

She had light blue hair and eyes, narrow shoulders and waistline, and wide hips with a thigh gap that could make most men’s mouth water.  Her arms were thin and delicate, and her breast small but shapely, all of this could be seen based on how the robe was cut to form fit her.

“Yes, he does not know any of our language, I have been attempting to teach him it but, we have run into… some difficulties.”

“What language is he speaking?” she asked, there was a look of curiosity in her eyes, but there was no emotion on her face. It was like her emotions were non existent, or frozen.

“I- I don't know.” she said.

“You don't know what it is called but you can speak and understand it?” she asked looking away from Leon to gaze at Lira with her icy stare.

“Not really,”  Lira took a deep breath and steeled herself. “Everything I say is translated to his language for him, and it also works the same way for me.”

“How is that possible? There is no magic like that of which I am aware.”

“It just happened, it would after all be hard for the two if a mage couldn't talk to her familiar due to a language barrier. ”

The Wolfthir student’s eye twitched slightly and her eyebrow raised by a fraction of an inch, it was the only telling sign of her surprise.

“Familiar?” she snatched at Leon’s right hand and brought it up to examine, with no facial expression she ran her hand over his mark. “Interesting, so interesting.” she murmured as she stared intently at the lion tattooed on his hand. “Order him to speak in our language, it should force the knowledge and allow him to speak.”

“I can't,” Lira said. “He is my partner, I have no ability to command him.”

“Interesting” she murmured.“I am called Krya,” she said looking up at Leon.

“Leon.” he stated simply, and nodding towards Lira. “Lira.”

Krya nodded to him and looking over at her teacher ”We are to partner up with someone from the other school correct?”

“Well- yes...”

“Very well, I chose to partner with Lira and Leon.” she nodded to herself and left no room for any argument.

After all how could she allow someone so interesting get away from her now?
