Chapter 109

Virah hopped one from rooftop to the next, the buildings' close to proximity to each other allowed her to not strain herself from the stunt.

Her pace was collected as she walked across the cracked concrete, the clearly abandoned area not bothering her in the slightest.

Her movements made little noise as she looked over the rooftop's ledge, the wall she was leaning on felt like it would collapse on her any second now.

Nothing like that happened even as she pressed her arms against the concrete to have a better view of what was happening on the streets below.

Drug deals, as always, were common place among the slums, back in Cianwood, something like this was uncommon, though still pretty frequent, in Goldenrod's slums however, drug deals became normal and commonplace, the people here wanted their fix and they were willing to pay for it in droves.

Virah watched in silence as a member from Efrosin finished the deal, then she silently left, choosing to leave the man alone in favor of searching for grunts.

Down below, the drug dealer sighed in relief as the overbearing weight of Virah's stare disappeared from his form, he didn't know why they came back, but he's glad that they were only targeting Team Rocket instead of Efrosin.

Still, it would have been preferable if the ninja also attacked Guiomar but beggars can't be choosers.

Virah thought about the veterans in Cianwood buying drugs and drew a comparison to the teenagers doing the same thing here in Goldenrod.

The old men had a distinct reason for getting their high but just because they wanted to forget about the horrors of war did not mean that they could justifiably do drugs.

Virah jumped to a building on the other side of the street.

It seems that despite each gang having fixed territories in the slums, there were still open streets that were left without influence, and it was in places like these where people lived and petty crime became unregulated.

Virah found herself staring at a group of kids playing with each other far longer than she thought necessary, and when she looked away, she shook the feelings of pity she felt for them out of her head.

They will be fine even as the gangs start doing skirmishes against each other, humans were adaptive like that.

She ran around some more, distinctly noticing that despite her physical activities for the past few hours, she still hasn't gone tired.

Was it the effects of Aura? She was unsure, but it was a good thing that she was capable of this so regardless of its origin, Virah accepted it.

Eventually, she found herself staring at another rocket grunt, despite the location of their branch, these people carried Pokeballs containing powerful Pokemon with them everywhere they went.

They also had weapons in the form of batons, others carried guns that shot out pressurized water, a decent few had flamethrowers, and a rare group were armed with tesla coils that shot powerful lightning.

They were expecting her, it seems, and the moment that Virah saw them, she knew that her friends didn't deserve to experience what it's like to be on the other end of those things.

'Keeping things secret from them would save them from harm,' that's what Virah told herself as she jumped down and landed in front of the grunts.

Their reaction was quick and immediate, and all three of them pointed their guns at her without hesitation, the weapon looked like the exhaust of a car, with a large cylindrical body and a long tube pointing outward.

It was slow and bulky, though in possession of extreme fire power.

Virah jumped back as the grunts fired their weapons, the resulting jet stream cracked off pieces of the ground from the sheer force alone, and even the wielders themselves had trouble standing upright from the recoil.

Virah started moving, she went to the side of the trio to block the other two streams, and as she expected, the moment that she was directly perpendicular to one of the grunts, the other two stopped firing.

With only one jet of water threatening to slice her in half, Virah swiftly grabbed one thunder dust vial from her hip and tossed it at the trio.

The grunts stopped shooting the moment the yellow dust rained down on them, they backed away, cautious of the resulting paralysis.

Virah's Aura flared to life as she dashed forward, kunai in hand.

One of the grunts pointed their weapon at her, he quickly lifted it to block the kunai Virah tossed from piercing his chest.

The poison specialist dropped down and slid towards the the trio, she reached out for one of the kunais hidden within her sleeve with one hand as the other opened the leather bag on her stomach to pull out a few shurikens.

She tossed the latter as a distraction before jumping upward to follow it up with a lunge, as the grunts were still busy blocking the shurikens, Virah was free to stab their weapons with her kunai.

One was already broken, and the one she just plunged her weapon into shortly followed.

The grunts stumbled backwards as sparks flew from their guns, the two with damage weapons tossed theirs away and replaced it with batons while the one with the remaining functional gun pointed the muzzle Virah's way.

A swift toss of her kunai destroyed the weapon pointing at her and as the grunt untied the weapon's strap, Virah moved to the two other grunts.

She took out another kunai from her sleeve and spun it around in a quick action to shift her hold into a reverse grip.

Weapon in hand, she neared the grunts in caution, her steps careful and knees poised for a quick jump backward should things get threatening.

With a huff, one grunt ran forward, arm raised in preparation for a strike.

Virah dodged with a quick weave, she utilized her lowered position to hit the grunt square in the chest with the back of her kunai, the man heaved, air leaving his lungs as Virah's strike landed.

She swiftly finished the fight with a low kick that sent the grunt tumbling to the ground.

Virah quickly raised her hand to block the baton of the other grunt, the bladed edge of her kunai did wonders against the gaps between the baton's body.

Virah used the leverage of her weapon being buried within the grunt's baton to twist the man's posture to the side before delivering a swift kick to his stomach.

The grunt keeled forward with a pained gagged, Virah then finished him off with a quick blow to the side of his head.

With one last grunt remaining, Virah felt confident in herself to finish the fight, she took initiative and dashed towards the shaking grunt, he attacked her in futility with his baton, his swing sloppy and his movements desperate.

It took Virah a simple grab to the wrist with her free hand to block the desperate strike, and with the grunt now locked in her grip, she used the back of her weapon to deliver a hit to the man's chest.

The grunt heaved, though he kept up his fight and Virah had to kick his knees sideways to send him down to the ground before hitting him on the side of the head, finally knocking him out.

The poison specialist sighed and started gathering her breath, she leaned against a nearby wall for support.

She waited for the aura surging across her body to die down before getting up and gathering all her thrown weapons, soon, her shurikens went back to their bag and all three of her kunais were safely kept inside her sleeves.

Virah eyed the downed grunts, and slowly, she checked their bodies for anything of worth.

Starting with the gun, Virah found herself disappointed again when she realized that there were still no elemental stones hidden inside of the weapons, it was all just water infused with Type Energy.

Virah still dismantled them for parts, but she was wishing that she'd find an elemental stone hidden somewhere in the gun while doing so.

'And nothing,' the poison specialist thought in disappointment as she broke down the last gun, 'there's nothing,'

She'd done this several times already but hoping for good luck wasn't a bad thing.

Virah stored the parts inside of her trainer bag, then she hid it back inside her vest to continue scavenging the unconscious grunts, this time she found Pokedollars, around a few hundred or so, nothing much, but it was still welcome.

Once the grunts were free of their money as well as their weapons, Virah left the scene, hoping to find another group patrolling around the area.

Everything she's done so far should have done a massive financial hit to the local Rocket branch and she's sure that they'd start moving sometime soon…

By that point, Virah would leave, fearing that the grunts would start carrying powerful Pokemon with them.
