Chapter 6: Orcs

"HOW LONG WAS I ASLEEP"

Shin talked to himself as if he was crazy.

'okay calm down' shin thought to himself

'Reassess the situation first'

'First, I have this game-like interface. Second, I think I have superpowers. Third, Zii left almost a year ago. Fourth, I don't know how much time has passed. And fifth... I don't know where Jay is...' he thought to himself.

He felt depressed at the thought that he had no clue where Jay was or what happened to him."Kuya!!" A familiar voice filled the room.

Shin turned to look at the door and saw that it was his little brother, Shaun.

"Shaun!" Shin shouted in delight.

Shaun ran towards him and gave him a big hug.

Shin looked at Shaun and thought that he was taller and although looked more grown up, there was still a tinge of childishness in his face.

"I thought you weren't going to wake up Kuya. Everyday I visited here but there was no hint of you waking up!" Shaun cried as he hugged his big brother in the arms.

"How long was I asleep?" Shin asked.

"Almost three years." Shaun said stutteringly.

"I was out for almost three years?!" Shin said in shock.

"Opo... Kuya there were so many things that happened and changed! Mother is fighting for our survival right now and Father he-" Shaun said but couldn't finish the last sentence as he burst out into tears.

"what!? What happened!?" Shin shouted as he felt a bad premonition.

"He died." Shaun said slowly.

Shin felt sadness encroach upon his entire body.

'Dad died?....'

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Tears slowly fell down from Shin's tears as he looked at his little brother.

"How...how did he die?" Shin asked with tears falling from his eyes.

"It's..." Shaun hesitated.

"Tell me."

"That day when you, Kuya Jay and Kuya Shin found that meteor, a surge of radiation attacked the whole town... Even reaching the nearby towns like Casiguran and Bulan."

"Almost 80% of the people who felt the attack of that radiation were either sick or dead."

"What?..." Shin said in shock.

"Then a year after that, the scientists discovered a crystal that helped the people to get rid of the sickness or the pain that they felt because of the radiation." He continued.

"but a year after that, the 2nd year, portals suddenly appeared everywhere."

"Portals??!" Shin exclaimed in shock.

"Yes, portals! Just like those in fantasy movies!" Shaun said but there was no excitement in his tone. Only sadness and fear.

"When the portals appeared, the people did not know how to respond. They observed it for days but nothing happened."

"Until that unfortunate day..." Shaun said slowly that his tone was slightly faltering. "What... What happened?" Shin asked fearfully.

"Monsters appeared."

'MONSTERS!?' Shin thought to himself.

He was still shocked by the fact that portals appeared. But monsters!? What the f*ck!? We aren't in a game! This is f*cking reality!

"You know those green and strong creatures in games?"

"What? Orcs?" Shin had a sudden thought.

"Yes! Orcs!" Shaun yelled fearfully.

'Orcs!'

"Those monsters appeared. They were scary. They were powerful. So powerful that a tank's missile couldn't even kill it! They were all 6'5 ft tall and their muscles were protruding. Some were even 7ft tall. " Shaun said as he gasped in fear.

Shin gulped down as he broke down into cold sweat.

"The military took control of the situation. During that time, father... He evacuated the civilians in the area. Although he was told to also evacuate, he was adamant in helping the people. He was a police officer. Helping people is carved in his flesh. But one orc suddenly appeared behind him."

"What...?"

"The people said that that orc grabbed father and tore him apart..." Shaun said this as tears suddenly began to fall down from his eyes.

"Father... Until his death, he served the people. He served his country. He was a policeman! He prioritized the safety of the people first!" Shaun said mournfully. But his eyes couldn't hide his pride.

"Father died in the line of duty! It is said that the most honorable way to die is to die in the line of work. Father, he died that way. To protect us civilians! To protect his people." Shaun said as he no longer cried. His face was full of pride.

Shin looked at his little brother and then nodded. Hearing this story, he couldn't help but agree with his little brother. The pain that he felt in his heart lessened. 'To have a father as brave as him. I am proud!'
