I went to The Knight In Gale which is a typical weapon shop. It even has posters telling you not to point weapons at people. Weapon safety is an important needed lesson. Thankfully there is a weapon program that helps even kids understand what weapons are used for. To have a good society that has less violence, teaching them early about safety is a good start. I don’t see many employees. Maybe one or two rookies who must be working as apprentices are my guess.
A young man saw me through the backrooms and came out to greet me. He has soot on his face, so he must have been working on something. Like any customer, I told him a short story about my situation. I even talked about my new skill just so he knows what my goals are in fighting. He asked if I was going to hunt goblins. I told him that was the plan and need weapons that can at least kill goblins.
I wanted to make sure that I came here to buy something that can fight. On the way here I did see some kitchen shops that displayed knives. I could get a $1 store knife but I want something sharp. My idea is that weapon shop knives; daggers and whatnot are the best of the best. Like premium knives that salesmen try to sell you. You know are good but just a little too pricy. I remember something like Japanese knifes being things you can give to future generations. But you will be paying a lot for just one kife. Generations are worth money.
The young weapon shop apprentice got an Idea and went back into the backroom. It didn’t take long for him to come back out with a sword. It didn’t look new but with a budget of $10 which is a day's worth for normal workers, I hear. I can’t complain about getting things used. I don’t intend to fight in the front lines so I got used will be the best for me. Even if I do fight knowing a weapon has been used and has killed monsters, brings me at ease.
I was also given a sheath for the sword. Sadly it was $10 so I have no money for armor. I know Furin wants me to pay rent but the first thing I need after the first day of the job needs to be armor. Leather armor or hell I would be desperate enough to buy or make my wood armor.
She won’t be able to get rent money if I die. Well, they would have to worry about one less mouth to feed. Which would probably be most beneficial. Though I don’t want to die yet. I know these are my instincts but I want to do women before death. I won’t let that be my focus in life but dying a virgin would suck. But I either need to have the best charms ever or have money. Or get famous with the new skill Search Enemy.
After getting my sword and strapping it into my back only for transporting in the city. I walk back to the guild. I read in the store not to have the sword on your hip in the city. It’s not illegal but it makes people nervous. It’s a best practice because it takes time for you to pull off a sword and unsheathe it from your back.
When I came back Sae went from deadpan to bright sun. I still would love for her to be excited for me and not my skill but I need to ignore that. I need to focus on obtaining wealth and ignoring the women that my instincts desire. I walked up to her and she spoke up.
“Are you ready to work? Please be ready to work I know the perfect party for you!” She said fast. Oh, a party. I was going to ask her about parties. I need to be in one that is strong or has a lot of fighters. Since I will be a point man I need to be protected.
“I don’t have armor so I need to be protected. Do you have a party that is very strong or has a lot of members? Oh, I also need to borrow a book on goblins if you guys have something like that.” Knowledge is power so knowing my enemy will benefit me.
“Yes and yes. We have a B-rank party that has been taking out a lot of goblins. They have about 7 members. They have three front-line fighters. One who uses daggers. The other two use swords. We have two lancers who will be the mid-range fighters. One magician and one healer. Would you like to hear about them?”
That seems strong enough, I can be behind the lancers and protect the healer if need be. Or maybe one lance can stay behind everyone so I will be protected from the front and back. I will have to worry about the sides but I have an enemy search so I can tell where the enemy is located. So if need be one or two of the front-line fighters can protect our sides.
“Yeah sounds interesting. I would like to hear more about them.”
“Great! Well to begin with the dagger user is named Crow. he is very agile and good at detecting traps. The two sword users are Thaylein, a female swordswoman. She is a long one-hand user. The one who you might feel more at home with is Gen. He is also from the Asian content and uses a katana and a long bow called a Yumi. The others are-”
I had to cut Sae off only because I should meet these people rather than get their life stories. If I want the story of their life I will ask them myself. Introductions are very important. She was a little disappointed she couldn’t finish but she told me to give them a call. There was their number. The thinking is I actually don’t have a phone.
Apparently, she was very surprised. I guess you need a phone in this world. I guess that makes sense. Most fantasy worlds are in the medieval age but this one has bikes, cars, and even big-screen advertisements. I was one who’d usually get a phone from a company that was very popular. Never once did I get a benboid except if I did it for an experiment or for a weird hobby.
I will most likely just get one very cheap phone. One is just used for messages and for talking. Not a flip phone but a basic phone. I don’t think I will be playing games. I would like to look things up just in case I need to find information on anything and anything. Having an encyclopedia in the pocket is the most useful thing when it comes to smartphones.
She let me borrow her phones which had a cute pink case. And she told me the phone number of the leader whom I accepted to be at a temporary party with. When I called a man picked up the phone. He wanted to know who was calling and why. I told him Sae recommended me to their party. And my skill in detecting enemies.
The man was upset for some reason. Maybe I woke him up or something. I will just ignore that and focus on getting myself prepared to do good first impressions. Meeting people for the first time ever is so important. If you act like a clown and look like a Chinese peasant people will look down on you. And your struggle to prove your worth will be a thousand times harder.
Sure my gear doesn’t look like I am ready for dangerous work but my skill will help me get more money. Then I can make an even better first impression on people who are more important. I will definitely have to save enough to fit in high society. Using Rain’s memories as a reference. Looking good in a suit is important for nobles and business people. Ah man, all this money talk reminds me that I need to make a savings account that only I know about.
A lot of books recommend people make a book account their significant others don’t know about. So that you can still save and compound saving over time and buy things you want. Because once the other person finds out that you are saving money and quite a lot of it. They start to think it is their money. I am not married to Furin but I know she would love to make my rent higher the more I make.
Makes sense sure but I really don’t like that way of making money off people. It is almost like taxes which is the ultimate way of theft. Why are you going to make a person pay more when they are just starting to build themselves up? So what if they made an extra X amount? Doesn’t mean they will get that same X amount the next month. I don’t think Furin and her mom are argonian in nature. It’s just when money is brought up in conversations it makes things muddier.
It didn’t take long after the phone call when I heard someone call out to Sae. It was a short thin man who had daggers all over his body. I assume this man is Named Crow. Based on Sae saying he is a short agile man. Oh, blonde hair is something you don’t see on men very often here.
I haven’t been here long but the blonde is not usually on males. The man is wearing a mixture of black and green. Not very camouflaged if you ask me. I mean sure wearing black is good for nighttime maybe, but I have my doubts about that. But if you are going to mix colors at least get it in a camo. I haven’t seen modern camo in this world, if it isn’t a thing I will be surprised. This world seems like a utopia, but even a utopia had to be formed through conflict.
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
I am sure weapons and such have gone through an enormous amount of research and development. Uniforms and other types of technology must have developed as well. If not, I can always try to recreate them. I don’t know if he calls himself this but I will label him a thief in my mind. He has this look that screams thieves in RPGs.
He gave me a quick look and looked disgusted. He skipped past me and he ranted on and on about many things to Sae. Sae has the best customer service experience. Never once did she look pissed off nor did she try to talk back. I used to work in service jobs but mad do they suck butt. I feel bad for her. He hasn’t even asked why I would be useful. He could save his breath and energy if he figured out why I am useful. Their group did ask for a useful scouting skill.
I basically have a radar on monsters as long as I have encountered one before I can use my skill to track targets. Wouldn’t they like to know what monsters are around us and how many there are? Or how many goblins there are so then they can get rewarded for killing so many? I got to watch this guy. After all the killing we do he might try to give me a pitiful reward.
I don’t mind getting very little but 1 percent of 100,000 is 1,000. I can do a lot with a thousand but he might even give me less for not killing monsters. Usually, parties like to give each member money evenly so they remain happy. But I would just be a temporary member and they might not even want me back so they won’t care about giving me an equal split.
It’s been going on and on and Sae looks tired from all the yelling he has been sprouting. I want to hurry up and make money so I am going to cover his mouth and tell him my skill. I slowly crept up behind him. And Sae gave me a small look just to see what I was doing. While focusing on him I can now hear what he is trying to say.
“The Black Suns are trying to get a usefu-” I stopped him from yelling and he tried to turn around and grab his knife, but using my body I stopped him. He is like a small mouse stopping him is easy. I spoke up and a very pissed-off voice. He has been yelling at the cute Sae for so long.
“I have Enemy Search which allows me to find enemies I have encountered within a 10-mile radius. Is that useful to your party which is already so efficient at killing goblins?”
He wasn’t able to speak and so he shook his head. He looks pissed so when I let him go I should back off a bit so he doesn’t attack me. Should I take a loan and just get the equipment myself? I don’t like people who can complain who are Karens or Kevins. People who can complain to people whose work isn’t really the best.
I let go of him and threw him into the desk and I backed far away. When I let go he grabbed his knife and tried to swipe me from the side. Knew it was typical pissed off a person.
“Screw this! Sae I want a loan to get better gear! I hate this puny punk Kevin who can't respect people or even let them explain the situation.”
“You punk bastard my name is Crow from The Black Suns!”
“Kevin is a nickname for those who act selfishly and without compassion.”
“You punk I have compassion!”
“So Crow has compassion? Were you expressing your love to Sae by yelling at her for over 10 minutes? Is that compassion!?”
“Listen my time is valuable I don’t like people wasting it!”
“So you will force others to waste yours by complaining to them? Does Sae care about you? She was calling you about a potential member who has a skill that can locate enemies. But did you even consider that she had something important to say?”
“Wait you have a skill that locates enemies?”
“I just said that before I threw you. So you can’t use logical reasoning in a situation. Your ass was just thinking about killing me in that situation huh. I might as well go out and risk my life dying by a goblin. I refuse to work with the so-called Black Suns. If you're a B-ranked team and that's how a member presents themselves I don’t need a party.”
I left the building with steam coming out of my head. I would rather gain money and respect working for myself. Or looking for a team that respects and treats people respectfully. I just hope The Black Suns change members or disband themselves. I can only hope to form a party myself or find a respectable one.
When I got to the gates a guard with a sword stopped me. He asked for an ID. Thankfully an adventure card is a form of ID. I was angry at what happened at the guild but I lowered my mood when the guard stopped me. He is just doing his job. He was worried about me going solo so he asked an F-rank group of three people to go with me.
I was introduced to two Beastkin and one human. Gishki is a male Reptile beastkin. He has mostly reptile features. His skin is in scales and he has no hair. Clausolas is a male bird beastkin with mostly human features. He has a few feathers on his elbows. Lastly, Minerva is a female human. Three guys and one girl kind of make me uncomfortable. I hope this only last for a day. This world isn’t like mine from what I remember. If a girl states someone assaults them most don’t get involved. Even the news tries to avoid that situation.
This kingdom is still traditional in the way of Women getting labor work is looked down upon. It’s still liberal enough to give them jobs, but It does look bad for the company. This is because the county is liberal in the fact that women are looked at as being equal. A Rank S female is far superior in strength to a rank B male. So if a woman gets assaulted people just think the girl is lying. Because depending on your stats and skills women could be stronger than males.
In my world, if a woman stated she was even looked at incorrectly, she could go to jail. Women had too much power in that world. I hope I don’t go back. I really don’t remember too much of my world. Maybe I am talking about an extreme case that happened. If that is the case why am I remembering something that is extreme and not common?
I do remember my world having a lot of electronics. I also remember reading a lot of Jump. Man what the hell! I can’t remember everything from my old world! I just know some weird words about how my surroundings were. Also how I never really was lucky with women. Is that why I remember women being a pain in the ass? Screw this stop thinking about the past and focus on the present.
“Are you the one the guards told us to bring along?” Said Minerva worryingly. Gishki looked at my gear. He was surprised about how lightly packed I was.
“Oh yeah! I am Ren Taishi. I am lightly geared because I was going to use my skill to locate the goblins. I was hoping to kill a few just to get some money for the day.”
Gishki spoke up. “Oh, you have a location skill? That is a very desired skill right now. With how many goblins are around having an estimate would make things easier.”
Clausolas chimed in. “Oh for real? A location skill is something the Black Suns have been looking for a while. Are you not a citizen here?”
Oh great a loaded question right off the bat. Clausolas is a preceptive man. He thinks outside the box. Maybe because my outfit and having a useful skill made me seem like someone now around from here. Ah, but the party's name is annoying. I hope to avoid them in the future.
“I had a run-in with Crow. After dealing with him I want to stay away from his kind. He yelled at Sae, the cute desk receptionist for eight minutes straight. A person who can’t restrain himself and just yells at others in customer service is a horrible person.”
“Do all guys really have to make stupid comments? I think guys forget I am a girl too.”
“Minerva your plenty cute. A lot of humans and beastkins formed a secret fan club around you.” Said Gishki.
Yeah adding cute to Sae's name was uncalled for. I was just trying to describe the girl. I should have said something along the lines of her being a wolf beastkin. It’s hard for me to describe people. No matter the gender I usually put my social attachments to people. As for a hot guy, I would just say that he is a hot guy to describe him. Even if people get the wrong idea about me, they at least know who I am talking about.
“Well anyways we should get going. We are wasting daylight. Oh, even though it’s temporary you should at least know our party name. It’s The Shinning. Like a coin that is shining in the light.” Clausolas said while slowly walking.
“Wait, I need to know everyone's Job,” I shouted out. But Clausolas kept on walking and ignored me. Man, he is preceptive in conversation but has a one-track mind on the job. I am a support class that can’t heal. Knowing your friends and their capabilities is a nice thing to know. I know my limitations but not the parties' limitations.
Gishki waved at me to start walking. We were walking at a jogging pace so it was kind of awkward to talk and walk. Gshki spoke up but kept on walking. “I am a tank. I don’t look like it but my scales are tough. I can take blows and I am cut-resistant.”
Minerva spoke up after Ghski finished. “I use a spear and I also know a single healing spell. Nothing big, but something to help in time of need.” With that the walk was silent. Until we got to a forest. Not a thick forest but a forest with trees that are sparse.
